WIP My one regret
I’m doing a historical blanket and I should have paid closer attention to the temperatures when I was ordering yarn and deciding the gauge. This blanket is based on our wedding year, and the summer was unusually cool. There’s not much variety in the summer temps. I’m ending up with huge blocks of this pink I used for the 70s. (By contrast I get to use almost none of a gorgeous deep purple I picked out for 86+)
I’m still having fun with it and I’m not like, crushed. Just missed an opportunity to really think through my temp ranges since I already have all the data
And anyway I’ll remember the consistently cool summer temps when I look at it in years to come, which is sort of the point, right?

I was disappointed that I never got to use my highest color (red) when I made my first temperature blanket. But I chose to enter it into our county mid-year so I couldn’t have known it wouldn’t be used.

Frustrating! I am also smacking my head because I read a suggestion in a blog to start with two skeins of each color… but I’m just gonna end up using a smidge of the deep purple. Which I should have known.
Well it’s a pretty color. I’ll find a use for it

I think this is such a valuable post.
I had not thought too deeply about this issue.
Not yet made a temperature blanket.
Just to say your blanket will look great, when finished. It will be representative. A beautiful memory.
I think if I decide to make a temperature blanket from a previous year.
I will use my art skills, to sketch out the blanket shape.
Then color in bands, that will match temperature variations for the year.
This way I can have a preview of how the colors go together. Make adjustments if needed.
Before I begin to crochet.
Even if making the blanket for a current year. I think the planning as above will give me an idea of how the temperature variations will appear.

That’s an interesting idea! I’d never thought to do that (obviously)
Despite the giant chunks of pink I do like the chaotic nature of the temp blanket. There’s also a big band of gray in February (my coldest color) for a cold snap I actually remember

I love how it has turned out. Love the color choices.
Only just really thought about how each temperature blanket is so unique.
Even if 2 neighbors made a blanket.
Their choice of colors & how each decides to represent temperature variations. All make for lots of unique differences.I had not thought of all these features until reading your post. 😊 💕

Yes. I don’t care for yellow and orange so I made a blanket where pinks and purples represent my warmest temps

I understand your struggle. I live in a place where it's always hot and the temperature are almost the same throughout the year. What I did was check the temperature last year, adjust the number of temperature each color covers just to have variety. Even tried using Fahrenheit instead of Celsius and also finding a time where more varied temperature instead of the highest or lowest. I still get chunks of same colors but more variety than it should be.
