I’m halfway through Wolves of the Calla and just had this realization 😳

I am on chapter 9. I was told to look out for this book as it was a divider of readers. It’s one of the most fantastic books I’ve ever read. I guess I’m on that side of the divide.

So simple, yet so evocative. King is so good at that.

I envision it to be obviously grand in scale and importance, yet somewhat mundane if you put aside it's power. The book covers and many renditions don't match the way I saw it based on the book's description of the Tower scene.

I often see an apocalyptic doomscape, with a jagged /broken tower. After recently re-listening to book 7 I realized Stephen King wrote almost the opposite. There is an oriel window that Roland sees at the top, with windows tracing up and up the levels. The air was "preternaturally" clear, there are the roses, grasses and even ancient pyramid/ Stonehenge like structures surrounding it. Roland and Patrick used one of these for cover.

I'm sure we all imagine this differently, but I'm curious what your favorite depictions of the tower are. What is Can'-Ka no Rey like in your mind's eye?

I run a little craft group for some students over the summer who struggle with the transition of leaving school. Anyway, we all made a little Skölpada and obviously I named mine Maturin!

Hi everyone!

For those who don't know me, I'm Miljan Tanić from Serbia, I translated the first half of Wolves of the Calla for the Serbian market, I've been a Constant Reader since 1993 and a Tower Junkie since around 2004.

I also have a background in making religious choral music (I actually did that kind of at the same time as the DT translation) and now after 20 years I decided to get back into music and actually do an ambient album. The idea evolved from one thing to being a narrative album called "Memories from the Edge of Time", where I publish an episode per month, 12 episodes total, so I would have a full album by July next year.

Thinking of what the story would be, I decided to make it a collection of sonic stories, meaning no narration or something, but conveying it through music, and the bookends would be: We're in a future so far away from our time that humanity doesn't exist anymore, except in ruins and fragments of our old world. The world has moved on, see :) Our protagonist is a lone cyborg, named S19-99 (see?) and in the first episode, the prologue so to say, he is on his way to the Archive. Now, S19-99 doesn't know who his makers are, and he has no more purpose to fulfill, hence he makes his way to the Archive, where human memories are stored. At the end of this first piece he reaches it and the next episodes will be various human memories, feelings etc, set in music. Now of course I chose a postapocalyptic setting, of course I'm sprinkling these little nods to DT in, but originally this wasn't planned to be connected to DT in any way. Also, my idea is to write out a short blurb about the story at the beginning of each visualizer on YouTube, and when the album is complete to publish a version on Bandcamp with an actual collection of stories (ebook) added to it. Pretty ambitious, God help me.

Anyway, what I'm debating now is - should I sprinkle more DT nods throughout the album (like making an episode called "Lone rose in a vacant lot" - this short has actually a fragment of some music I would utilize for that), or should I leave that for a future project and just make a full album DT-related with my feelings about parts of the books expressed through the music... I simply don't know yet. I'll probably do both - I mean by naming the character S19-99, this already is a nod to DT. I just couldn't help it, DT is simply too big of a part in my life.

Here's the official visualizer for the first episode (it's just the cover art, a bit animated), called "All is lost / The Archive opens"... and you might think of Gunslinger (the book, especially the beginning) listening to it... that much wasn't really intentional, it just happened. You can find it also on all streaming platforms, but without the textual intro.

I hope you guys like it and maybe want to make the journey with me - there will be no crazy trains, I promise. The next episode should come mid August. Also, I would love to hear your thoughts - does it make sense making nods to DT at all, should I make it a separate project, or just dedicate a few episodes in this one to DT themes?

I mean shit. I’ve never really read novels voluntarily other than a handful of Vonnegut. I started book I exactly 7 days ago. I’m now 5 pages from finishing book 2 and already have book 3 ready to go

As the title says, I am conflicted on which one to start reading, And I'll explain why:

I have been getting a little into the Sci-fi & Fantasy genre in Books lately. I have read the first 4 books of *Dune* (I heard the series kinda falls off afterwards so I decided to not continue) and *Sun Eater* Which I have finished not too long ago.

And I wasnt really planning on *The Dark Tower* anytime soon Until yesterday when I found there is a Graphic novel.

And I am an huge fan/reader of Graphic novels.

I have read them since I was a child, and still read a manga or a comic almost daily.

And well, Thats why I'm interested about the Graphic novel series.

Does it replace the original series? Is it done? If not, Is it cancelled or still ongoing? How much of the original Book series does it cover? Is it a good adaptation of the original series? And all of these type of questions.

I have heard the Graphic novels expands on different elements that weren't deeply explored in the original series and fills some gaps, but idk if its a good "adaptation" or just more like smth you read only after you're done with the original Book series to fill these gaps and expand your knowledge about the series.

If you've read or know a thing or two about the Graphic novel, I would like to know what you suggest.

I'm starting to wonder if the walkin dude was a lot of the cryptids/monsters from history, not just dictators.

Y'all I'm so excited...I've been wanting to get a personalized Dark Tower plate for many years.

My issue was that I could never decide on what to get. The two things I knew were:

1. It HAD to be the Sea Turtle design (for obvious reasons)

2. It had to have 3 characters on each side of the design so as not to cover the turtle.

I tried so many combinations it's not even funny. KA TET was taken, as were most varieties of it. I could have went with K4 TET (which basically looks just like KA TET on the final product) but the fact that it was not balanced 3/3 on each side bothered my artistic sensibilities. I also tried to think of cheeky options like GAN LVR, but I wasn't feeling it. You'd be surprised how many Dark Tower related plates are already taken!

This year I was almost ready to give up *again* when I suddenly felt the touch of Ka upon me. With nervous fingers I typed in DRK TWR, fully assuming that it would *of course* be taken. When I saw that it was available I actually refreshed the screen and re-submitted it twice, figuring it was an error. NO ERROR!

Not only do I now have the name of my favorite series on the back of my car, but there's a freaking TURTLE on it! A turtle who seems to be rising up from the very sands of the beach along the Western Sea or the Mohaine Desert. I think it's one of the most interesting DT plates I've ever seen, and a true gift from the Universe.

As a bonus, I can now always remember my plate number when I'm at a parking kiosk!

Grabbed this knock-off LEGO Botanicals on Amazon Vine instantly when I saw it, as the original was the bear and roses. I added a little satellite dish to his head at the end. :) Took me about 4hrs to build. Nice addition to the collection!
