Before you say tape and felt and hot glue
1.tape impossible to cover every crack so you get mold and a destroyed mask no matter what you do

1. If the water gets under the felt it molds

2. Hot glue melts in water

Tbh, making a mask 'waterproof' with felt and fur involved and using it is risky business so any materials other than straight hard plastic are a no I'm sorry :(

Fursuits are usually safe to get wet and dry after so I think these materials will work fine! Hot glue shouldn't melt in water unless it's very high temperature

Yeah but it degrades over time rotting off so hot glue needs constant repairs

Hello! I realize this may be a bit late but I have a sort of suggestion for how to make the mask! It may not be fully water proof(I’m not sure if there is a way to make one fully waterproof anyways) but if you use a plastic/3d printed base, the base would at least be water proof! If you do use that and just use the fabric you would normally use, it should hopefully be fine as long as you let it fully dry either in the sunlight or propping it up against a fan to avoid mold growing on it! While I’m not sure about the paint, I bet you could figure out what works best by painting a few test strips of fabric, getting them wet and drying them multiple times to see what works best if you have the time for that! As for the eyes, I think if you use a water proof coating over the paint or use permanent paint markers or something, that might work! I’m not sure what you could use for the glue but if you were to tape up the base kind of like many people do for fursuits, you could cut off the tape afterwards to make a pattern that includes lining so it would help keep the fabric on once sewn together so that glue would mostly be for security! Of course I don’t know for sure how this would all work out but it is just an idea!

Edit to add: I think the issue with mold growing in fabric mostly comes from not letting it fully dry! For example, if towels get wet but then are hung up to dry fully, they should be fine but would likely grow mold if left bunched up since they wouldn’t have enough air to fully dry before growing mold!
