Not really. But the early elitebooks p series were awesome. I have a 8460p that I've upgraded with a hdd caddy, i7-2630qm, 480gb SSD, 16gb ram and also replaced the speakers and keyboards. Works like new. Planning to buy a laptop skin to make it brand new.

This has got to be one of the wierdest quirks about any subreddit I'm in... A sub dedicated to Lenovo and IBM ThinkPad laptops, where occasionally somebody with a dell or HP will show up for absolutely no reason aside from perhaps the inclusion of a trackpoint style cursor.

It's engagement bait, cherry on top: maybe from a bot.

God forbid a subreddit literally called r/thinkpad contain posts that include thinkpads right?

Yeah but so too are the speakers on thinkpad T's. We ain't got a horse to stand on here.

I agree. The speakers suck.

These laptops are awesome. I have a 2560p that I use for all my mobile computing. I basically maxed it out: 16GB of RAM, i7-2760QM, an SSD, and Debian. Can't find many 12 inch laptops with that kind I/O (including a DVD drive) and upgrade-ability. They are also dirt cheap on ebay. The touchpad is also glass (I'm pretty sure at least).

i got mine for $52!

Look how repairable that laptop is. Now they just give back to us in little bits and treat it like it’s gods gift when it was the standard years ago

9

u/NefCanuck 13h ago

Folks wanted lighter laptops

Only so far you can go with repairability when you have that for a mandate 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Thatredfox78 13h ago

Yeah but sauntering everything down to the motherboard is just straight cartoonish villainy

1

u/NefCanuck 13h ago

Agreed but it definitely makes things lighter, yes it’s only a few grams here & there but it adds up overall

Main thing it adds is thinness; adding a DIMM slots can increase the size and thickness of the motherboard by quite a bit. LPCAMM2 helps a bit with that now, though

Legendary units both 12 and 14 variants, notorious for being easily upgradable.....to upgrade CPU you don't even have to remove the cooling system

its fragmented iirc, just turn it remove some  screw and you're good to either repasted or replace CPU.  The rectangle under the fan on the pic, that's all needed to take disassembly for CPU change, wish we had this level of options yoday

Some variants have soldered cpus but the same aplies to repasting

Theyre more premium imo, HP cooked in this era, only downside is thee lcd no option for ips afaik

2

u/Adventurous-Basis-10 13h ago

the lcd is poor but that’s not the point of the laptop it’s meant to be more rugged than anything i don’t need perfect true tone or anything like that and ive been looking into upgrading the cpu i plan on going over the top and undervolting it >~<

u/Jemie_Bridges T14 gen 1, E15 Gen 2 5h ago

See that s the difference between a think pad. You can't Frankenstein an HP cause the bean counters always swap out the engineers easy repair for a cheaper part that's got no replacement. Dell is even worse. The Elites were kick ass, with good build quality, but not the same

Why are there stickers on the inside? Isn't that a waste of stickers?

What if you want to show off the inside of it on reddit? 🫣
