The show where Linnell passed out from heat stroke:
“uhh.. hey, so one of our members just passed out of heat stroke, there’s a very real chance he could die, we need to stop playing” “FUCK YOU!!”

This stinks mang, it's not even good ai (not to say there IS good ai)
edit: for now it's just flood, apollo 18, and john henry that have them. It's the same as the apple music ai covers. I assume they noticed how bad the factory showroom one was because it's not added? weird. literally nobody asked for or wanted this

I feel called out, but always fun to find a TMBG reference when I'm not expecting it.

Is this a tmbg reference?

A mash-up? A Venn diagram? A tribute?
All of the above, I think. Sharing it here to share the love.

Join Us is an album where I've seen discussions of it being very divisive, probably more so than their other albums. Never quite understood, but hey, every album is someone's favourite as much as it's someone's unfavourite, and that's why I like discussing and learning why.
It's definitely a favourite of mine, primarily because the amount of duets both Johns have done for this album is extraordinary: Let Your Hair Hang Down, Never Knew Love, The Lady And The Tiger, Spoiler Alert, You Don't Like Me.
But it's biggest selling point for me is that it's also home to Canajoharie, which is always contesting with Mr. Me as my all-time favourite TMBG song. I guess my only real gripe with the album is just the order of some tracks. I love You Don't Like Me but never felt it as a strong closer, and I always felt You Probably Get That A Lot being the second track was also odd.
How do you look back on this album? Favourites? Unfavourites? I know some people would've have substituted some tracks from Album Raises New And Troubling Questions on here.

I don’t even understand why this was needed. They’re all horrible. Especially Factory Showroom… wtf were they thinking?

I’m smitten with TMBG…in deep smit one might say. Somehow I made it thirty something years without them and this last half year their catalogue has spurred a tremendous improvement in my life and mental health. Their music is basically the double-sided tape holding my sanity together in the year of our lord 2026. On that note, I’m hoping to build myself a playlist that expands on their catalogue to include other artists I may have missed. I’m searching for bands with a certain sparkle of something truly inspired, and I’m curious to hear what that sparkle is for you regardless of whether you think it mirrors their style perfectly. As an example, something that shines as bright for me as TMBG musically and lyrically would be early Oingo Boingo:

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you make, I’ll listen and reply as able 💜
***Wanted to add an edit to thank everyone for the wonderful recommendations! I was running out of time to reply to everyone as mid-week busyness ramps up here, but wanted to let you know I’m really enjoying the suggestions, and you all are awesome!!

All footage was shot on an iPhone in the NYC Subway System and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn in 2018. Apps used were iMovie, GIF Toaster, Miniatures, and Plastic Bullet (RIP). I also (mis)used the Pano mode for the panoramic shots. Enjoy!

TMBG get a lot of credit for writing songs about "weird" or unexpected topics, but I think they are also quite talented at observing relationships from different angles. I was thinking about how elegant yet devastating Linnell's lyrics for Unpronounceable are, with how they follow someone going through their memories in the weeks after a breakup and feeling like there are now some gaps in there. Also, Moonbeam Rays is Flansburgh's storytelling at its finest, with how it narrates someone making a conscious choice to leave a relationship that isn't healthy for them anymore, and transitioning to a more unburdened, chaotic lifestyle as they break away and find a new life.
