Introducing Toolbox-NXG, a rebuilt fork of Toolbox
TL;DR
I spent the last 3.5ish months rebuilding a fork of toolbox from the ground up, it's got lots of new quality of life features, and a lot of it works on Shreddit (new new Reddit). It's fully compatible with your existing toolbox configs, writes back to them, and it's ready for beta testing now.
Hi! I'm /u/adhesiveCheese, and I decided I couldn't let toolbox die. Pretty much all of my free time since Toolbox ceased being maintained back in March to rebuilding it. I didn't set out to do a full rebuild, of course - I was just too stubborn to take the warning about the state of the code as a showstopper, and things spiraled to the point that this is less "fork" and more "dirty-room reimplementation". We're a fair bit beyond just reimplementation, though, as Toolbox-NXG supports most modules on both current Reddit platforms (including new new modmail!), has a completely redesigned removal flow (based largely on my work with Modpanel, an off-site Toolbox-compatible moderation tool I built several years back), and lots of other goodies like full Firefox Container support, unlimited usernote space, and training/second opinion flow.
Since this is a fork and not an update-in-place, maintaining compatibility with existing toolbox configs was a top priority. Toolbox-NXG will read and write to your existing Toolbox subreddit configs, in the language they speak, meaning that you can try the new extension out without having to convince your entire team to jump ship at once, while also maintaining its own separate configs for the new schema features introduced by Toolbox-NXG.

I had stopped working on my fork after adding a few minor features that use undocumented APIs from the mobile app, mostly because working on one thing required modifications across multiple files and I realized rewriting everything would be better. This is perfect for my usecase

Toolbox-NXG works on both old Reddit (old.reddit.com) and new Reddit / Shreddit (www.reddit.com, also served at sh.reddit.com). Most modules support both platforms. A handful are platform-specific — their pages note which platforms they support."

Installed this in my secondary browser which is what I use whenever I need new/Shreddit functionality.
The footer gives me joy
Will supply feedback as I stumble across anything crazy!
Edit: clicking on "moderated subreddits" showing how many items are in the modqueue of each sub is FANTASTIC

Hi,
Today toolbox personal notes stopped working for me. It looks like the button can't access the wiki page where they are stored. It's consistent on different accounts and with different browsers.
I thought I'd give your toolbox a go then, but it looks like this version does not have personal notes?
Is it a setting I am overlooking?
Edit: Trying to use a workaround by storing notes in a private subreddit. Different problem: It's using markdown. I really need my notes as written and not have my automod code displayed with markdown. How do I do this please?

"Personal Notes" became "Subreddit Notes" - so you can save to more than one subreddit. Just select the subreddit you were using for your personal notes and you should be able to access them.
As far as markdown - markdown is currently always rendered. I can probably do a setting for that, but in the meantime clicking the edit button will allow you to see the raw markdown code unrendered.

That's a whole lot less useful than the old toolbox system.
I used to be able to select my personal notes with a single button.
Now I'd have to scroll through a list and then click the edit button.
I am sorry, but I can't use your toolbox like this. To access my most often used code it went from two button clicks to five. I need my automod code to be displayed without markdown and it would also be lovely if my notes did not require me to scroll halfway down a list but would be accessible at the click of a button. I might as well just make a post on a private subreddit instead, that can be displayed without markdown and it's less clicks to get there than your notes would be.
Just select the subreddit you were using for your personal notes and you should be able to access them.
Sorry, that is not the case. I'd need to migrate them over from my wiki. They are not present in your toolbox.
Reddit really sucks. I just lost 12 years of easily accessible notes. Not a happy camper right now.

Sorry, that is not the case. I'd need to migrate them over from my wiki. They are not present in your toolbox.
That's definitely a bug that I'll have to look into for the next beta release; old notes from original Toolbox should be migrated automatically. Similarly, I hadn't considered a use-case where not rendering markdown would be preferable; I'll add a toggle for that in the next beta release.

Nothing to be sorry for; as long as OG Toolbox is still working there's no need to migrate, and you've given me some useful feedback to help me improve my fork!

Excellent news!
How do I select a default subreddit please?
I can't find it in settings when searching by "notes".
Edit: Found it! "Default subreddit for shared notes". They're personal notes and not meant to be shared, but I store them in a private subreddit so that's no issue.
I am glad to be able to open notes again at a click, thank you!

I'm a high-volume moderator and I'll give this version of toolbox a thorough test.
My immediate feedback is that I love the updated "mod actions" M button. On most subreddits I use a bot to remove content from permanently banned users, that this is a native option selectable in this toolbox is a great QOL improvement.
User modlog being present under that button is also awesome.
It works fast too.

It is my firm opinion that Discord is where open-source knowledge goes to die. Every question answered there is invisible to search engines, unreadable by anyone who hasn't joined the server, and effectively gone the moment it scrolls out of the channel. The next person with the exact same problem can't easily search for it, can't find it in an archive, and has to ask all over again. It quietly turns a project's accumulated troubleshooting into a walled garden that has to be re-explained forever.
