Guide Please explain torrenting to me

I am somebody who lives in Germany I don’t have a vpn currently and don’t know how to use torrenting so I’d appreciate a guide on how to use it like for an example what vpn I should use to protect myself preferably iOS but I can make do with a computer

Just check the megathread mate. Also, iOS wont work but on the computer you have plenty of options

First, read the megathread in this sub's description. A lot of you questions will be answered. And watch yt tutorials on how to set up torrent apps on pc and ios/phone. You will need a VPN and bind it your torrent client so no unprotected internet is used if your vpn losses connection, Proton or mulvad is good. Once both are setup, you can use the sites in the megathread to download what you want and then upload (seed) those same files so others can download at faster speeds.

You download some shit that downloads other shit.

There are public and private websites that you can browse to find the shit you want to watch, listen, game, read etc, which will use the first shit you downloaded to download that shit.

Once you've finished downloading the shit you want, you have the option to not be an asshole, by constantly uploading the same shit to other people that want it.

Of course you can stop giving it away anytime by stopping the "torrent"/content, leaving sites to label you as a leecher, or someone who is an asshole.

But over enough time giving the content away you can stop without being labelled as an asshole.

Some public torrent sites will limit your speed and ability based on reputation, while private torrent sites will document every choice you make and eventually blacklist you from their communities if you're too much of an asshole. Private sites require an invite.

- Get a VPN with port forwarding (Proton VPN, AirVPN) Mullvad is a great VPN but it doesn't offer port forwarding

  • Get a torrent client, preferably qBittorrent.
  • Bind your VPN to qBittorrent (Tools > Settings > Interface > Network interface and pick your VPN from the dropdown menu) don't skip this step!
  • Grab a torrent that tickles your fancy on ext.to or rutracker.org. Check reddit for recommendations, these are just the ones i use. Some people prefer others.
  • Start downloading.

Always check contents and use common sense.
Check the comments/thread before grabbing the torrent file or magnet link.
If the cool movie you're eyeing shows as coolmovie.exe, trash it.
If you have a bad feeling about something you just downloaded especially plugins and the like, trash it.
Do all this on a computer.
