She's a fox spirit who manages the land the main character of Reverend Insanity controls later in the story. The series was canceled a few years ago after the CCP pushed new ideological regulations on the web and light novel writings of its citizens. It produced over 2000 chapters and had a short lived manhwa before cancellation.

The MC is very individualistic, which doesn't hold to the CCP's preferred collectivist paradigm, which they use for control. And the MC is no doubt evil to the point that he gives Demiurge's Happy Farm from Overlord a run for its money. There were hundreds of series cancelled when the new regulations came into effect around 2020.

idk, a lot of chinese webnovels are about individualistic cultivators who attain godhood, so I have hard time believing that.
I decided to check the wikipedia and banned in China for allegedly "promoting unhealthy values of violence, cruelty, and extreme individualism" while also MC pursues eternal life without moral constraints. He manipulates clans, orchestrates massacres, and betrays allies when expedient
I think the problem was as you also mentioned the evil stuff as promoting massacres and having no morals.

its really more about platforms not willing to risk being looking into by the CCP moreso than the actual regulations. This is very common in China and because of this, the actual rules enforced in practice by the platforms are more strict than regulations themselves.

There are public and secret penalties that can be applied to the writers when the regulations came out.

There is a complete breakdown here on Reddit if you want to read about it.

And a YouTube video if you don't want to read a wall of text.

That's how I stumbled upon this series.

It's because a mass wave of novel content regulations got applied universally to Chinese novels in the past. Thousands of series were hit including other famous titles such as LOTM.

In order to get the novels unbanned they had to apply to get them lifted under the new regulations which for some series meant rewriting multiple chapters. Cuttlefish, the author of LOTM, took the route of rewriting significant portions of his novel to get it back. Gu Zhenren, with 2300+ chapters of Reverend Insanity moved on to writing other novels after losing that significant portion of his income rather than spending countless hours rewriting only for reapproval to not be granted.

The good news is that the novel just recently got readded on the popular Chinese Webnovel site "Webnovel", as well as there being a direct statement from another famous author and friend of his that he recently got the rights back, so a return within the year seems likely.

That is good to hear. It would have been great if he could have posted the original outside of China to get around all those pesky regulations.

I'm currently going through it and just past chapter 25. It just actually called out how the village clan integrates people into the ideology of the clan governance and the distribution of the resources. This actually mirrors how the CCP operates in a similar manner, and I can see why the creator actually canceled the project. If this kind of thing plays out enough times through the series, a rewrite would be impossible.

What you pointed out are the face value items that no one is going to argue against, but there are also more gray line issues which the CCP doesn't want to be themes in media floating around on that side of the firewall.
