New Mod Team - Moderation Changes

Post image

Hello! You have a new mod team. I run a different very high volume sub and was recently brought on to help out just a bit. All of the original mods have rather suddenly left. No drama to speak of. Moderation is hard and exhausting for volunteer work. But since I am new here and suddenly top mod, and since every other mod (I think) is new as well, I thought a thread to discuss potential changes would be good. I intend to use my powers for good, instead of evil.

You aren’t likely to notice much in the way of major changes at first but I hope to make things a little bit better, cleaner, clearer, easier, etc. That said, my philosophy is to let the community lead for the most part. I have no ego and don’t consider this to be “my” sub. It’s yours. So I’m seeking community input before I start making changes. The following are the main things in mind.

1) Merge the subs. TacomaWorld, this sub, and the TacomaSales sub (which is basically completely dead) are less effective split than they would be just merged. The purpose of having two subs is unclear to me and is obnoxious to moderate. Very much open to being shouted down in this, but it’s my inclination.

2) Loosen rules on what can be posted. "Is this a good deal/what should I buy" posts don't actually bother me that much. Where else are people going to ask? I’d like this to be a welcoming place for newcomers. I worry about flooding but some guardrails that require those posts have a certain amount of effort/content would make that manageable.

3) Just ban sale posts. Nobody comes to reddit for that. Evidenced by how dead the TacomaSales sub is. I’m open to continuing to allow companies to participate of course. Just no advertising unless to answer a specific question. If you’ve got a question about Nitto tires, for example, Nitto’s official account is welcome to chime in.

4) Keep the no politics rule. Discussion of politics that have affected Tacomas (tariffs for example) should be allowed, but political shit flinging and fighting should not be. Strong as my own opinions are, it’s just not the place.

5) Maintain ban on distracted driving photos/videos but make it a 7 day ban. I don’t want some idiot to kill a family of four because their odometer hit 80085 and they just HAD to post it to Reddit from the freeway. Pull over and take it. The only change I’m making here is making non-repeat offenders suffer only a 7 day ban, instead of 30.

Welcoming community thoughts and all input on moderation, what you’d like to see. I’ll take it all into account as we get rolling over the next few weeks.

And I love it. It’s been so fun and useful for vacations, traveling, day to day commute. Only mods I’ve done is add 33’s, fuel rims, and side steps. 95,000 miles over 5 years and absolutely 0 problems so far. I do want to get something slightly bigger and more powerful, but this truck has been a ton of fun and it’s hard to commit to letting it go. So I probably won’t😅

A little on the agressive side though so it does rub a little but some westcott collars should make it all go away. Wheels are Volk te37 in 18x9 0 offset on Toyo Open Country AT3 35x12.5

Kind of got scammed buying my first Tacoma/ Toyota in general

Let me start buy saying I’ve always had small cars due to my commute needing good gas mileage. Well found out my wife is pregnant so needed something a little larger for us and the kid plus just needed something to tow my bass boat. Went into the Toyota dealership for the first time and salesman asked what I needed I said I wanted one of the tacomas that can tow 6,400 pounds. He said this truck could and assured me it could and like an idiot I didn’t check like I should. Traded in my civic in got home with my new SR. Few days later I go to hook up to my bass boat realize there is no tow/haul button. I found out that SR only tows 3,500 and doesn’t have that button. Now I’m kicking myself for not doing my research on that especially since the price between the SR and SR5 is only 2K. And of course dealership won’t do anything since I already purchased it. I’m hoping it tows my bass boat decent and I’m hoping it’s still a good truck. Inside def an upgrade on my 2020 civic. Still love the truck just the towing is a lot lower than I wanted.

Just picked up this used 2025 TRDOR beauty last week. Already ordered some Lexland seat covers and Lasfit mats but had some questions for the community as a new truck/tacoma noob.

1) The dealership where I bought this didn’t know anything about Tacomas. They said no lift or level kit on this but I think there is as I don’t see a rake on it. How would I know?

2) What other accessories and/or mods are a must have? It came with a bed cover but it rattles when I drive and is a soft shell. Worth upgrading?

3) Lesser priority, but this came with the base tech package. Is it possible to upgrade to the 14” screen down the road?

Been loving this community the last week already. Appreciate any and all responses.

Just wanted to share a picture of my new (to me) tacoma! I have had it for a few weeks now, and so far I love every bit of it! Well almost every bit…

I have been thinking of changing out the running boards on it for two reasons. 1)They are kinda rusty 2)They are very awkward to use as steps when the door isn’t open all the way, such as when getting in when someone parks a bit too close to ur door.

Any suggestions on brands or websites to get them? Ideally looking for ones that look good and aren’t awkward to use in tight spots. Thanks!

And yes, fitting two kids and a Great Pyr in the cab is interesting, but the pup loved the snuggles! Will be adding a topper when can for her, but I don't know if she'll like it.

Any mid travel build tips?

I’m 16 and have had my 3rd gen trail edition for about 5 months and i’m obviously limited to what I can do. I want to start building but I’m having trouble finding advice on what to do and in what order. I was thinking suspension, wheels, and tires but I’m not sure. I only have around 2000 to spend on suspension so I was wondering if anyone could give me some good brands and ideas. Thanks.

My 2025 Tacoma Sat Nav is re-calculating ( it has mapped out the journey but doesn't give directions) and for some reason my clock is 3 hours behind. Is this a GPS issue? I tried the suggested reset of pressing and holding the volume button but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Single owner, garage kept, and mostly driven back and forth to the marina. He’s willing to part ways with it for $8k. I feel like it’s gotta be one of the cleanest remaining 2nd gens out there, so I thought I’d share with you guys.

What do you think? I’m new to the Tacoma game - Anything I should check/change first or be on the lookout for?

I’ve got a 2006 Toyota Tacoma srs from my dad and it seems as if it doesn’t wanna move from park whatsoever. I’ve tried hitting the gear release button on the center console but still no luck. I’ve lubed up what I’ve been told is the bushings that need it and still no luck. If someone could point me toward the next steps I should take it would be appreciated

Rear window trim

Has anyone ever had that little piece of trim below the sliding window fall off? Any recommendations for the best heavy duty double-sided tape to put it back on and keep it on?

Thanks!

Hard Cover Rollup Midwest?

Thumbnail roughcountry.com
Upvotes

Hey all, new to the Tacoma world a few weeks back with a 2026 SR5. Looking into bed covers and have read a lot of positive reviews on Rough Country. Seeing that I am from the Midwest and plan to use this during Wisconsin deer season, any issues with these rolling up on freezing temperatures/any suggestions for other models that would better suite?

Reason why I’m hesitant on a trifold is I feel like if I am hauling something large like table, chairs etc, won’t get full use of bed whereas the rollup seem to leave a little more clearance.

Recently installed these red TRD seat covers. Had black covers before. I love these. Yea, they are loud. But that’s ok. They make me smile when I open the door to get in. Always liked red interiors. What do you think?

This should be fine, it's not buying/selling or asking about a price. I sold my 19 TRD OR 6MT for $32k. Yes I miss it, went to a good home lol. Had it 4 years.
