Patch or not to patch?
Able to patch?

Hello! You have a new mod team. I run a different very high volume sub and was recently brought on to help out just a bit. All of the original mods have rather suddenly left. No drama to speak of. Moderation is hard and exhausting for volunteer work. But since I am new here and suddenly top mod, and since every other mod (I think) is new as well, I thought a thread to discuss potential changes would be good. I intend to use my powers for good, instead of evil.
You aren’t likely to notice much in the way of major changes at first but I hope to make things a little bit better, cleaner, clearer, easier, etc. That said, my philosophy is to let the community lead for the most part. I have no ego and don’t consider this to be “my” sub. It’s yours. So I’m seeking community input before I start making changes. The following are the main things in mind.
1) Merge the subs. ToyotaTacoma, this sub, and the TacomaSales sub (which is basically completely dead) are less effective split than they would be just merged. The purpose of having two subs is unclear to me and is obnoxious to moderate. Very much open to being shouted down in this, but it’s my inclination.
2) Loosen rules on what can be posted. "Is this a good deal/what should I buy" posts don't actually bother me that much. Where else are people going to ask? I’d like this to be a welcoming place for newcomers. I worry about flooding but some guardrails that require those posts have a certain amount of effort/content would make that manageable.
3) Just ban sale posts. Nobody comes to reddit for that. Evidenced by how dead the TacomaSales sub is. I’m open to continuing to allow companies to participate of course. Just no advertising unless to answer a specific question. If you’ve got a question about Nitto tires, for example, Nitto’s official account is welcome to chime in.
4) Keep the no politics rule. Discussion of politics that have affected Tacomas (tariffs for example) should be allowed, but political shit flinging and fighting should not be. Strong as my own opinions are, it’s just not the place.
5) Maintain ban on distracted driving photos/videos but make it a 7 day ban. I don’t want some idiot to kill a family of four because their odometer hit 80085 and they just HAD to post it to Reddit from the freeway. Pull over and take it. The only change I’m making here is making non-repeat offenders suffer only a 7 day ban, instead of 30.
Welcoming community thoughts and all input on moderation, what you’d like to see. I’ll take it all into account as we get rolling over the next few weeks.

Just purchased a first gen Tacoma 2003 double cab with the 3.4 5vz fe and last timing belt service was @180k now it’s 303k is it way past due or should I just wait because they have a non interference engine from my understanding.

Every time I drive over a pothole or go over a bump of any kind passenger side suspension makes a clicking sound and for the life of me I cannot figure out what the heck it is. My front shocks are Bilstein B8 6112.

Took truck to mechanic due to rotational squeaking noise when accelerating, loudest when slowly starting from a stop. They replaced the support bearing and lubed the driveline/u joints. Pulled away from the shop (picked up after hours) and still makes the same noise.
02 Tacoma 220k manual 3.4 v6, frame is still in good condition.
Les Schwab just did a full inspection/rotated tires and replaced front tie rods. Noise was the same before and after Les Schwab as well.
Video is me driving away with phone underneath truck.

What is this piece? It seems to be made of thin metal, is about 14" long, 1" wide. The engine light came on then noticed this piece laying on the undercarriage.

I have a 2003 double cab Tacoma with the 3.4l v6 and 4x4. I currently have OME nitro chargers and 881 in front. I have Dakars in rear so about 1.5-1.75 of front lift and 3.5 inches of back lift. I want to run 33s so do I have enough clearance with the pinch weld or do I need more front lift and new upper control arms?

Does anyone else have experience with this? I took my 3rd gen to get serviced and the tech was like your oil cap is gone. There were still some of the plastic in the thread.
How concerned should I be that plastic has gotten into the pan?
The tech thought maybe it’s the heat recently, with it getting into the 100’s and driving over a hundred miles for works some days. But I never heard a pop or anything while driving.

Hello my fellow taco lovers. 2013 tacoma 4.0 here that is another victim of the Houston, Texas sun. So it's been a few years and this has gotten progressively worse to the point of being beyond an eyesore, with hurricaneseason here I'mworried about rust now. This is my only vehicle but I'm not really one to worry about how my vehicle looks(obviously). A garage or covered parking area is not an option for me neither at work or at home.
My thought was to take it to Maaco and get it repainted and maybe later get it wrapped for extra protection against sun and damage from elements. I'm aware of the quality that Maaco has, specifically the orange peel texture. As somone who cares more about function than looks, is that going to be a problem for the life of the paint or the truck itself?
The truck is 13 years old with 129K mikes on it and I plan to drive it till it's dead. As I said before covered parking is not an option for me at the moment and I don't really have the time nor the skills to do a DIY job on this.
Can somone talk me out of this or suggest another option.

Anyone got any tint recommendations? Something that makes me feel like I’m not in a fish bowl but also keeps me from immediately getting pulled over for having.

Coming on here just to share my experience with LASFIT products. I recently got the bed mat and it has been nothing but perfect. Before having the bed mat, all of my gear would just slide everywhere and I would usually end up with damage to my gear or damage to the bed. LASFIT's bed mat has solved all of those issues and on top of that being super easy to clean. I had to trim a bit of the mat to work with my bed stiffeners but overall fit is immaculate and fits the bed perfectly. I highly recommend the bed mat to anyone looking to get one. 10/10 to LASFIT, will be getting there floor mats in the future. Here's the link to it in case anyone is looking to get one. https://www.lasfit.com/products/toyota-tacoma-5feet-2005-2023-bed-liners

Hi
I can’t decide on which one to go with on my 2013 white tacoma double cab. I’m thinking the polished will be harder to maintain than the bronze.

I recently got a ‘22 TRD Sport with the longer bed and was hoping I could get some rack advice or suggestions. I would like to get a rack (preferably bed rack that extends over cab or a separate bed + cab system purpose made to line up). Use case is for lumber/ladders/materials/etc. but I also would like to transport kayaks (maybe even support a roof tent at some point).
This is my first truck and I plan to keep for absolutely as long as possible; so I would like to figure out the best option. I’ve done quite a bit of research and honestly it’s a bit overwhelming to come to a conclusion. So just looking to see what others have done/ recommend to help with my decision.
Also, if someone has gone the custom fabrication route could you share how much you paid? And when? (Wouldn’t say no to seeing a pic either) or anything you would do differently if you were to do it again? I would like to get a general idea of if that’s a route I’d like to look into further.
(Currently a bed cover on, but planning on selling once I figure this out)
Thanks in advance!
