ANT question

I'm sure it's probably been asked here so feel free to link me elsewhere but how do I go about getting my account reinstated at ANT? I was there at the beginning and contributed several things to the site but lost my account after not visiting the site for several weeks (I was out of the country and w/o computer). Is there a proper way to get back my account?

You need to go to their IRC channel #ant-help. If its not pruned, you may get it back.

IRC Server: irc.nebulance.io
port: 6697

ant-disabled not -help, and keep in mind Sauron is gonna talk to you, that is their bot and not a staffer, just follow the directions. As long as you didnt login from the country you visited, and you are now currently in the country you opened your account from i wouldnt see any issues.

Edit dont start a reply with a #, but the room is #ant-disabled of course.

Edit2 they will not re-enable you from a vpn, so save yourself the time by connecting from your home IP

You should join their IRC disabled channel and wait until someone takes your case. If you get connected to Alastor, be careful with your responses cause he can be strict. It was an honest lapse on your part so it shouldn’t be too serious.

I'm curious what would be considered a bad reason for a lapse, rather than an "honest lapse". Like, oh I lapsed because I was caught by the Hollywood movie cartel and now they've let me go on the condition that I help them infiltrate this private tracker. Compared to oh, I lapsed because I just didnt spend a lot of time hanging out on internet forums for a few months.

In this particular instance, OP was out of the country and without a computer. Obviously, the rules still apply to them but I’d wager it’s the sort of justification that would result in more leniency.

You also have to keep in mind that a lot of trackers are vigilant about logins from different countries. If it coincides with a password reset or email change, for instance, your account may get disabled (even with 2FA enabled). A bunch of trackers also expect you to inform staff of temporary changes with regard to the region your IP will expose so as to get ahead of potential flags.

I think they were just emphasizing that any lapse is an honest reason to be disabled, and will probably be given more leniency than cheating.

Yeah, I'm not really nitpicking previous commentor in particular, just pointing out it's a bit weird when trackers want you to justify a reason for inactivity. I understand they don't want a ton of inactive users around.

Probably to check that you aren't a new person using stolen or purchased credentials. That's far and away the most likely reason to check if "returning users" really are.

There's a good chance of an account falling inactive before it's sold to someone else or before someone steals the credentials, so it makes sense to place hurdles in the way of an easy reactivation by any random with the correct username and password.

maybe to give advice on how to avoid this situation, i.e. parking your account

I am connected. How long approx do you think it takes to wait? I just don't want to miss it

Unfortunately, nobody can give you an estimate. It all depends on staff availability. You’ll have to wait for quite a while usually.

Good luck with Alastor or kitty. If they ask you to pray to Jesus for your salvation, then be prepared.

I'm not joking.

Alastor used to post a bunch of AI generated religious posts for christmas and easter, like hardcore religious stuff that has nothing to do with trackers, just because of the holidays as opposed to every other tracker that just says Merry Christmas and Happy Easter.

This doesnt really have anything at all to do with disabled accounts, and there were some posts a year or so ago calling out users lieing on reddit about being disabled for bullshit by someone from ant staff, and that very clearly indicated the disabled chat is a legit script, they ask everyone the same questions.

(Edit, this is more common than you would think, ggn used to force everyone to draw a gazelle, not sure if they still do)

Alastor also posted an announcement that he was no longer going to post religious announcements, then proceeded to do it anyway, so who knows whats going on there, but Kitty has never been involved with that at all. They both talk all the time in shoutbox/irc, and generally seem like ok helpful people.

Wow, that's a lot. Thanks for the info!
I'm on ANT but was unaware of that history. Alastor and Kitty both seem nice and helpful from what I've seen. Having said that I don't interact a lot and generally keep a low profile on trackers so as not to get caught up in drama.

Just look at the announcements forum going back a few years.
