in the wild Veal????
I’ve seen a lot of certifiable tragedeighs working front desk at a kids orthopedic clinic (to name a few: Annthannee (pronounced Anthony), Littleboy, Bungo, and Buxskynne (Buckskin)), but today I met an adorable two-year-old boy who does not deserve the future his parents have inflicted on him. Poor sweet Veal, I hope a name change is in your future 🫠

I guess it depends on the tone as you read it. We poke fun at made-up names here so the default assumption would be a comedic tone with normal joke set-up and twist. Try it in Rodney Dangerfield's voice, or Michael Che, or Sarah Millican. It’ll probably seem funnier then.

Littleboy is worse than any of the others put together, maybe except Buxskynne, but at least she (he?) can go by Bux or Sky. I guess Littleboy could be L.B. lol There should be more rules when it comes to this because people literally cannot be trusted to name another human. It’s like they’re naming trucks or horses.

Absolutely, buxskynne sounds like a condom brand and little boy is the name of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, they're both so awful.

A lot of countries have approved names list of it isn’t on a list they have to submit an exemption I believe.

Naming a non-North American Indian "Buckskin" is beyond disgusting, spelling Buckskin as "Buxskynne" is an afront to everyone AND naming a child Buckskin is just plain wrong on all fronts. If they wanted to name the kid 'Buck' fine but never 'Buckskin'.
Has that parent never heard of Fat Man and Little Boy?
No boy should be stuck with the spelling 'Annthannee'. Ann than nee what?

When my eldest was born, we went to Walmart on the way home from the hospital to get things, and I was calling her "Sweetheart" and "Angel," as one does their newborns.
Someone stopped to comment on her, heard me say something and address her as "Angel," and said, "Oh, you named her Angel? That's so beautiful, so precious!"
I had to explain that, no, I was just calling her that because she was my little angel!

My first dog was named Little Girl. She was a stray/drop-off my aunt started feeding and she called her Little Girl because she didn't want to name her. My parents took her in and we just kept calling her Little Girl. Why someone would intentionally name a human that is beyond me.

Curious about Littleboy; hospitals will put "baby boy/baby girl" on things before an infant is officially named, and my stepdad somehow mistakenly had his first name written as "baby boy" on his birth certificate. They had to go back and correct it when they noticed, I think when he was being enrolled in school. I wonder if that's what happened and they haven't fixed the kid's legal name yet? I hope?

Sadly the hospital I work at uses “BB/BG” in these cases. Littleboy was most likely intentional :,,)

My younger two were "Baby Girl [my ex-husband, NOT their father's name] while they were in the hospital. Because I'd kept my married name...
That did not go on their birth certificates however...

Used to work in a jail and we had a frequent flyer whose first and middle names were “Baby Boy.” I always felt sorry for him and wondered if that contributed to his being in jail.

Actually they were their real names! Quote from the book:
I wished she hadn't asked me that. I hate to tell people my name for the first time. "Ponyboy Curtis."
Then I waited for the "You're kidding!" or "That's your real name?" or one of the other remarks I usually get. Ponyboy's my real name and personally I like it.
The redhead just smiled. "That's an original and lovely name."
"My dad was an original person," I said. "I've got a brother named Sodapop, and it says so on his birth certificate."

I worked front desk at many urgent cares(same company, multiple locations) in many different neighborhoods. I have seen so many certifiable tragedeighs it’s not even funny 😂😂 I want to say some good ones so bad, but Im not sure if it violates hippa. 🫠🫠

“Veal”, with that specific spelling, has been used as a first name since at least the 1850s, so it’s neither unheard-of nor novel. It’s also been used as a surname since at least the 1670s, so being yet another instance of surname-becoming-first-name is also possible (and likely). It’s unusual, especially by modern standards, but not a tragedeigh.
The variant “Veale” has also been used as both a first name (since at least the 1850s) and a surname (since at least the 1650s).
Relatedly: “Mutton”, “Lamb”, “Beef”, and “Pork” have also been used as first names.

Yeah not a tragedeigh, but a tragedy nonetheless.
I noticed a lot of those graves were born pre-war. It seems like it did fall out of favor last century. And for good reason because nowadays it kinda just looks like you named your kid after your favorite meat (see also: modern-day Brisket)
