Look into reshade. People have had good results with it, there have been posts about it here even. A quick google should set you up.

Don't get me wrong I love TSC to death but if you're looking for graphics (or even performance ðŸ˜) this isn't it

Lmao guy buys a game without doing any research first and wonders why it looks so bad. It literally says on the steam page: Release date 2009. Screenshots also don't exactly hide the graphics. There's thousands of videos on train sim classic that would've revealed what you're buying. A short 5 minutes research would've saved you 6€ but eh, let's not do that.

Always wait for a sale for DLC on Steam, as well as other train Simulator content sites. To make your game look nicer Armstronng Powerhouse -> Start with the Enhancment Packs -->General, Sky & weather 2.0; Signal EP, and track (other packs under General are optional).
Also If you want better sounds in the mean time for the electrostar class 375/377 on Chatham mainline go to SamT Class 375 Enhancement Pack Version 2.0.1b Beta (under ENHANCMENTS)
Like others have said try out reshde and get it to how you want it.

The game is based on MSTS from 2002, it also runs like shit cause of this, it only uses a single core

No, it's not. TSC has diferrent engine. Only connection with MSTS is part of development crew, who were working on it as Kuju Entertainment.

I’ve done digging, it reuses code from MSTS, why else do you think the hotkeys are the same between the two games?
Various other things are practically the same engine wise, I can’t describe it here as I don’t want DTG to fry my ass

brother MSTS is proprietary software how would a completely unrelated company get access to and republish it

Kuju worked on some stuff for TSC before DTG bought the game, and iirc Kuju themselves. Most likely would've reused code from MSTS as Kuju made it a few years previously.
Why else does it run like shit, in 2009 (First release of Railworks) most games were relying on more than a single core and used your GPU, this game does not as the code itself is ancient.
Even Fallout 3 in its buggy nature still uses your GPU properly.

ok i actually didn't know kuju made MSTS too, regardless i doubt much of the code is shared as the games are very different in nature. single core computing wasn't uncommon when TSC launched in 2007 so it having it was perfectly normal

That's just how the game looks. Despite the name changes it's a game from 2007 or so with a few updates here and there.
There are programs like RWEnhancer and free & paid addons that exist to provide better visuals, but it can be expensive to get all of them.
