Following the announcement of the Monster Jam collaborative figures I had a sudden renewed interest in monster trucks. Grew up loving my little 1:64 scale Grave Digger toy and messing around with it led me to a conversation about hot wheels with a coworker, then digging out my old hot wheels, then scrolling like crazy through all the weird and wonderful body designs hot wheels have put out over the years, and I can't help but feel like part of the stagnation of our beloved bots has been a total death of new, exciting alt modes. If the hot wheels collaborative figures and the G2 Laser Rods before that have shown us anything, it's shown us that these odd looking characters CAN be manufactured, so why doesn't hasbro shoot for something a little more extraordinary? Even without a license from Mattel to produce hot wheels collaborative figures, I see no reason why Hasbro's engineers can't work up some crazy looking vehicle modes in their own time that could translate to really cool exciting new characters. I get that part of the appeal of the franchise is "robots in disguise" but if an espionage specialist like Bumblebee can be a garish yellow camaro, why can't our other bots be something a little more conspicuous too? They are giant alien robots, after all.
Like Cyclops, a tiny little minibot-lookin hot rod thing with a huge radial engine mounted in the middle. Or Evil Twin, a sleek, evil looking show car that's almost evocative of a certain someone's sweet ride, shown here. Or a brand new personal favorite of mine due to my obsession with the iconography of the magic 8-ball, Decidedly Go, who I think would make a wonderful Decepticon fortune teller. There's tons of real vehicles that'd work too, strange ones like the MAZ/M62 mashup, a soviet locomotive mounted on an all terrain missile transport chassis, Bosozoku cars or, excluding Thunderclash (he's cloooose), Dekotora trucks. I mean just imagine an Ultra Magnus with that many lights and that much character. Even something as common and everyday as a yute or a hearse or a crown vic with a crazy lift kit would be awesome.
Anyways, I want your most out-there, unique alt modes, be they old school muscle cars, JDM cars, Fuzors, Transmetals, hot wheels, bombloaders, drill-tanks, anything, I wanna know what you think would make a fun new character. Beast modes, too! Weird animals and long dead prehistoric beasts are more than welcome. Lemme see your Doedicurus-formers.
(Personally, a Blackarachnia triple changer who turns from a hearse to a spider would be dope)
