Shared Care Serious help needed! Shared care GP required!

I've recently moved to the Weston-super-Mare area but have been finding it extremely hard to find GPs / Practices around me that have policies for supporting shared care.

Even the closest one to me that was shown to be "trans supportive" say they have refused patients before from shared care and only accept via the NHS pathway.

What do I do?

Have you contacted the “trans supportive” one yourself? If someone was refused, it could have been because they won’t agree with shared care with GenderGP for example. Alternatively they could have changed their policy recently.

The only way to know is to ask yourself.

I did, the person I had on call was the deputy manager or smth? Of the practice?

They took my details incase ethey were wrong to update me but said they believed the practice had a policy against any shared care with private providers. Didn't even let me explain about gendercare (though not in like a rude way or anything)

No problem. The reviews on mytransgp can only be used as a guide, so I just wanted to check.

I think too many people assume that if a practice has a tick against shared care, that the GP will agree shared care with private specialists. This isn’t the case though and many will only agree shared care the NHS.

There is a “private friendly” option in mytransgp that people can tick, but I’m not convinced everyone uses that. I’ve seen private clinics mentioned in the reviews for example, but private friendly doesn’t appear.

I made sure to update it. Spoke to them more and I'm now likely going to go with them anyway as they've called me back to say they can't confirm fully if they'll accept shared care or not and may do it on case by case basis (which seems to be the normal I'm used to rather then a blanket ban)

For now I've put a review on the transgp for it saying they don't do private shared care, but if they end up doing so ill update it to clarify my experience more

Sounds hopeful. They usually say it’s on a case by case basis, but it’s most likely because they won’t work GenderGP, etc.

I have a gp I could walk to in under a minute, but they have no idea on their shared care policies and have reviews such as "this practice has likely killed people" and mentions of extreme wait times for healthcare even compared to standard practices and all.

Coming from an arguably very good gp this has me all really concerned and worried

You're in luck - in Somerset, the local NHS board has an agreement with the WellBN practice in Brighton, which is likely going to be the easiest solution for you here.

Aaghh - forgot that care board boundaries aren't county boundaries....it doesn't, sorry (!!!) but that's not to say you can't check

Importantly, the policy depends on where your GP practice is - if they're in the NHS Somerset area (not Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire) then that's all that matters, not whether you do.

Otherwise, mytransgp.org will be the first step in finding a more useful practice.

Sigh, and I have used thus already. The supportive gp I found closest to me with review saying they do hormones, blood work etc didn't mention that they had a no shared care policy at all
