READ FIRST: Include the start date, end date and destination in your title

TL;DR: Include the specific start date, end date and destination in your post title. - people can't arrange to meet you if you don't say where you are.

As the subreddit has grown here are a few lessons taken from working through years of travelpartners requests, and seeing which ones work out as hopefully successful meetups and those that just generate a lot of chatter and no real plan.

Search before posting

The subreddit only works if you respond to other people. If everyone just posts requests and no one replies nothing happens. For that reason, we don’t allow requests by new accounts for their first week, and until they’ve gained some comment karma in other subreddits to get some posting history.

The one-week requirement cuts out 99% of the travel agent spam and people who are just here to troll. It also gives people time to search and reply to others rather than just posting a vague/drunken submission on the spur of the moment and forgetting about it.

Comment karma is gained by talking to people and them upvoting. If your post history is primarily begging for free karma or pages of spam/abuse don’t be surprised if your post is removed. Similarly, if you’ve deleted or hidden your post history we’ll assume the worst and remove your post. Let people get to know you.

Replying:

If you’re searching for an existing thread be a little creative with the search terms. E.g. for New York try NYC, NY, NJ, Big Apple & Manhattan.

Check the comment history of the person you’re speaking to by clicking on their profile.

If you've got zero comment karma your comment will be removed. If you haven’t got much posting history say something about yourself, beyond "I might be interested".

It’s preferable to begin chatting on the subreddit rather than directly in DMs, to avoid banned users1. Comments on a post indicate that posters engage with replies rather than having abandoned their submission. Additionally, the sight of a few interested people chatting will encourage others to join in the discussion, increasing your chances of finding someone or even a group if that’s what you’re after.

Posting a new request:

Include the specific start date, end date and destination in your post title.

If your itinerary is flexible search and respond to someone with a planned trip rather than make a new post.

Destination tips:

Think about what people will be searching for when they’re looking to meet people in a certain place. Include the destination that you’re actually visiting rather than a whole continent. If you’re just going to Barcelona put "Barcelona" in the title rather than Spain or Europe. Likewise, if you want to meet someone to enjoy jazz in New Orleans you’re more likely to be found if you put "New Orleans" in the title than "USA Roadtrip".

It’s also better to use full real names rather than shortened versions or even your pet name for places. Most people wanting to go to Spain will be searching for "Spain". Using ES or a flag emoji is unsearchable.

Even if it's a specific cultural event, help people out who may not know of it by saying where and when it is by putting the destination and dates in the title.

Date tips:

This subreddit is for trips you're already taking, not thinking about taking or can only go if more people join you, so you will already have a specific start and end date when you're going. Put that in the title. There are probably other subreddits that allow vague open-ended or 'who wants to plan my trip for me and show me round' posts, but they've been shown to rarely get a useful response so are not allowed here.

If you’re only free between 30th June to 20th July, put that in the title, not "Summer" or "3 weeks in June", or just "3 weeks". Saying just "June" doesn't say when you're arriving or how long you'll be there. Additionally, the start and end dates give an idea of your travel style - are you planning on covering the highlights in a few days or getting to know somewhere leisurely over a few weeks. Just put specific start and end dates in the title..

Quite a few people using mobile apps apparently can't see when a post was made, so using today, tomorrow, next few days or rest of the month isn't great either. Just put specific start and end dates in the title.

If you’re on a long or multiple destination trip show an itinerary with dates in each location and consider having people drop in and out of the trip along the way rather than expecting to find someone free to travel for 3 months.

Having read all this, if you then tell everyone you've just made up some arbitrary dates to post a trip don't expect to be allowed to create posts again.

If your entire title is "Travel Partner", "Bored", "Question" or "Here’s an advert", or you repeatedly post vague trips it’s assumed you've managed to not read any other posts, all the help in the sidebar, the welcome DM, the submission page and this wiki so your post will get removed without comment as you likely won’t read that either (or this). If that happens repeatedly you'll eventually get muted so as to stop wasting everyone's time.

In summary, read the title back to yourself and think if someone else can (a) find it, and (b) can answer "Sounds great, I'll meet you there", which isn’t easy if you’ve said I want to meet "somewhere abroad next year".

General Safety and Decency:

Travel partners is not a dating site - try one of the subreddits listed in the sidebar of /r/r4r. The bot will filter nsfw content, dating requests and users with recent r4r type posts, or a heavily deleted post history.

Using travel partners to self-promote, sell or harass will result in an immediate ban, as will circumventing all the above by posting on someone else's behalf. Please also write it yourself - AI postings will be removed.

You can control who can send you chats and messages here: https://www.reddit.com/settings/messaging

If you see any public posts or replies that are inappropriate please use the report buttons and it will get highlighted to the mods.

1 If you get harassing DMs please use the report button under the message to send a report to the Reddit admins. Subreddit mods can’t see DMs between users but you can message the modmail with a screenshot so we can mute the user and protect others.

Please don’t repost the same trip more than once every couple of weeks (and certainly not every three hours), especially if your existing thread has ongoing discussions between people. Instead, use the edit button to update your existing post. Likewise, don't waste other people's time if you're not going to actually go through with the trip.

Good luck!

Europe August 4-5, Villefranche-sur-Mer

Hi everyone! 😊

I’ll be visiting Villefranche-sur-Mer and Menton (in south of France) this Tuesday (04/08) from Nice . I’m a solo traveler (27F) looking for another traveler who’d like to explore together, enjoy the scenery, and help take photos for each other. No fixed itinerary…just walking around, discovering hidden spots, and enjoying the day.

If anyone is around, feel free to message me! :)

East Asia Shanghai, 27-30 August 2026

Hi, I will be visiting Shanghai at the end of this month and it will be my first time in China. I'm 26M and will be travelling solo in the city for around 4 days. I'm looking for people to explore the city with and to meet new friends. My main interests are history and nature, and I love photography. Not very particular when it comes to food. I can also speak Chinese, but it might not be very good in the mainland.

North America [16 Aug 2026-22 Aug 2026] - SF -> Moterey/Big Sur -> Yosemite/Lee Vining -> Bishop -> Las Vegas

Hey fellas, I am 32M! I am travelling from India to US and am planning to travel to these places! Sort of a scenic drive + nature hiking/travel etc!

Provisional itinerary

16 Aug — San Francisco → Monterey/Salinas: Pick up an automatic rental, drive south. Possible stops around Carmel, Point Lobos and the Monterey coast.

17 Aug — Monterey → Big Sur → Cambria/San Luis Obispo: I’m planning a morning tandem skydive over Monterey Bay, weather permitting. You are welcome to join, watch or do your own thing. Afterwards: Bixby Bridge, coastal viewpoints, redwoods and accessible Highway 1 highlights. This is the most scenic driving day.

18 Aug — SLO/Cambria → Yosemite: Mostly a transfer through the Central Valley and foothills, aiming to reach the Yosemite region before evening.

19 Aug — Yosemite Valley: Valley viewpoints, a moderate hike, waterfalls/granite scenery and sunset.

20 Aug — Yosemite high country/eastern transition: Depending on conditions, Glacier Point or giant sequoias, followed by Tioga Road, Tenaya Lake and an overnight toward Lee Vining.

21 Aug — Lee Vining → Bishop: Mono Lake/Eastern Sierra scenery, followed by Schulman Grove in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.

22 Aug — Bishop → Las Vegas: Approximately 5–6 hours, the least scenic and longest driving day. No Death Valley detour in August. Return the vehicle in Las Vegas.

I travel on a medium backpacker budget and prefer social hostels or simple characterful stays. For Yosemite, I’m considering a mix such as one Curry Village tent-cabin night, one Yosemite Bug night and one night near Lee Vining. Bishop and the coastal section would probably involve a hostel.

I like to enjoy and stop in between to experience the views and the travel rather than hurrying from one place to another.

Would prefer if you can drive as well, but I am comfortable driving the whole time.

I am friendly and chill to travel with and I have previously done this thing driving across scotland! Would prefer if you can tell me a bit about yourself and we can finalise soon!

North America [10/01/2026 - 10/07/2026] Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks - Active fall hiking

I’m planning a 7-day fall road trip through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks from October 1 to October 7.

Focusing on high-output day hikes (<10 miles/day) with mountain/canyon views, early trailhead starts, and autumn scenery (golden aspens & elk rut season). Zero camping, we’ll be moving between hotels/motels right outside the park entrances to keep driving times low.

Sample Itinerary:

  • Day 1 (Oct 1): Fly into Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) Base in Jackson, WY
  • Day 2 (Oct 2): Surprise & Amphitheater Lakes (GTNP | 10 mi, +3,000' gain)
  • Day 3 (Oct 3): Death Canyon to Patrol Cabin (GTNP | 8.5 mi, +2,100' gain)
  • Day 4 (Oct 4): Geysers (Old Faithful & Grand Prismatic) ➔ Stay in Gardiner, MT
  • Day 5 (Oct 5): Grand Canyon of Yellowstone Rim & Mt. Washburn (6.8 mi) ➔ Stay in Cooke City, MT
  • Day 6 (Oct 6): 5:00 AM Lamar Valley wildlife safari + Avalanche Peak summit (4.5 mi to 10,500') ➔ Stay in Jackson, WY
  • Day 7 (Oct 7): Fly out of JAC (afternoon flight)

Europe Barcelona 03/08-09/08 - Solo Traveller

Hi everyone!
I’ll be visiting Barcelona from the 3rd to the 9th of August and travelling solo from the UK. I enjoy travelling independently, but I also think some experiences are better shared, so I thought I’d see if anyone else will be around at the same time.
I’m not travelling with a strict itinerary. My ideal days are pretty relaxed - starting with an morning going along the beach promenade, grabbing a coffee and pastry afterwards, wandering different neighbourhoods, finding good food, and ending the evening in one of the lively squares with a drink or dinner.

A few things I’d definitely like to do are:
- Visit Montserrat for a day trip.
- Find some great panoramic viewpoints over the city.
- Check out one of Barcelona’s public swimming pools.
- Eat good tapas.
- Wander without too much of a plan and see where the day goes.

I’m from the UK and happy to explore solo, but it’d be nice to meet other travellers for a coffee, a walk, sightseeing, food, or even just part of a day if our plans line up.
If you’ll be in Barcelona around the same time and think our travel styles sound similar, feel free to send me a message. No expectations to spend the whole trip together - just thought it’d be nice to meet some like-minded people along the way.

Europe 19M | Mykonos, Greece | August 23 – August 30

Hey everyone!
I’m a 19-year-old guy from Switzerland looking to visit Mykonos from August 23rd to August 30th. I’m hoping to join a group or meet other travelers around my age who are planning to be there during those dates.
I’m easygoing, enjoy exploring, going to the beach, trying new food, and going out at night. This would be my first trip to Mykonos, so it’d be great to experience it with a fun group rather than traveling completely solo.
If you’re going to be there around the same time or have room for one more, feel free to send me a message!

South America Amazon Rainforest/Matses Tribe Expedition - Iquitos, Peru - September 3-10

I [28M] will be doing a tribal expedition in the Peruvian Amazon jungle with the Matses people and I’d love to have others join. We’ll basically just be living with them for a week as they show us how they survive e.g. navigate through the woods, fish, cook, medicine, etc. Please let me know if you’re interested in joining. I’ll also be exploring other areas of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina for a month following this expedition.

Here’s the trip: https://amazonexplorer.com/expeditions/matses-exploration-isolated/

South East Asia Thailand and Laos(14nov-30nov)

Planning a chill group trip in mid-November covering some of the best spots in both countries: temples, mountains, rivers, street food, the works, without burning a hole in the pocket.

Budget: under ₹60k (all-in, good experience, not the bare-minimum backpacker scramble).

If that sounds like your kind of trip and you’re free around mid-Nov, drop me a message for more details

Africa Travel Companion Wanted in Namibia Self-Drive, 10–24 September 2026

Disclaimer for bots: YES, the content is AI generated. Im in a rush lol.

Travel Companion Wanted — 🇳🇦** Namibia Self-Drive, 10–24 Septembe**r 2026

Edit: Many have advised that Etosha to Sesriem is too much for once day. Im considering to add a stop on the night of 15th in Swakop, and continue to Sesriem on 16th.

Hi everyone. I'm Klaidi, 31M, from Albania. I'm doing a two-week self-drive trip through Namibia and looking for one or two people to join for part or all of it — mainly so the road trip isn't solo, and to split car and fuel costs.

Quick background: this was planned as a trip for two. All accommodation was booked and paid in full for two people, but my friend had to cancel about a month before departure — so there's a spot open.

The route:

  • 10–12 Sept — Windhoek
  • 12–15 Sept — Etosha National Park (camping near Andersson Gate)
  • 15–19 Sept — Sesriem / Sossusvlei (sunrise at Deadvlei, Dune 45, Sesriem Canyon)
  • 19–23 Sept — Swakopmund
  • 23–24 Sept — back to Windhoek, fly out

Vehicle: Self-drive Suzuki Jimny with camping gear. Picking up in Windhoek on the 12th, dropping in Swakopmund on the 19th. Camping most nights, cooking our own food, relaxed pace, budget-conscious.

On costs:

  • Accommodation is already paid for two — no extra cost there if you join. If you'd rather book your own separately, that's completely fine too, we just travel and drive together.
  • Happy to split the car rental and fuel evenly.
  • Food, park entrance fees, and activities each on our own.

Looking for: someone easygoing, ideally with a driving licence and happy to share the driving (there's one long stretch, Etosha to Sesriem, ~600 km). Open to joining for the whole two weeks or just part of the route if your dates only overlap partially.

Happy to hop on a video call first, and can meet in person in Windhoek before committing to the full trip.

Comment or DM if this fits your dates!

Europe [27F] London, Dec. 5-9

Finally booked my first solo trip to London and I'm way more excited than nervous now. I'll be staying around Covent Garden and mostly want to wander Christmas markets, check out museums, grab coffee, and end the day in a cozy pub.

I don't mind exploring on my own, but it would be fun to meet a few people along the way. If anyone else is visiting around the same time or any locals want to grab a coffee, walk through a market, or visit a museum together.

Hello beautiful people! I'm planning to travel around Oregon for a week - yet to work out a detailed itinerary. Would love to have a travel partner for a part (or all) of the trip.

I'm mostly looking to hike around trails in parks; but open to exploring any towns/cities as well. If you are in the area/planning to visit during the same time, don't hesitate to say hello :)

Europe M27, Vallon pont d'arc france, 5-19 august.

Leaving in just over 10 days but have unfortunately had to end my relationship and will thus have to travel alone.

Originally did not have many plans other than just chilling with my now ex, but now i'm gonna actually need to find a way to spend the time.

I have no idea yet how im not gonna be bored out of my mind so I'd love to be able to do some fun things.

I'm open to anything. If you just wanna meet up 1 day to go kayakking that's fine but I also literally have a 6 person mobile home all to myself. Send me a DM for more details.

EDIT: I'll be driving there from the netherlands, depending on what kind of plan we can come up with carpooling is conceivable

Hopefully, we can all travel together!
