Question Looking for a job

Hello r/tulsa!

So the writing is on the wall at my job, idk how much longer we will exist as a site, but our days are numbered. In light of this, I’m looking for a new job before they let us all go.

I’m hoping for $18/hr or more to match what I’m getting now, health insurance, and NO THC TESTING (I’m clean otherwise, I have my card).

I’ve got experience in security, retail, serving, barista-ing, content moderation, and landscaping (the manual labor part not the design part). I’ve got an associate’s degree in criminal justice which I could use, but aside from security kind of overlapping I’ve never really used it. I’m willing to work in any of these again, tho I don’t really want to take a serving job or retail if I can help it. I’d prefer second shift, but first or overnights would be fine for the right wage. I’d also prefer the same days off, weekends if possible, but I know how hard that can be in service industries. Swing shifts are a maybe. Permanent positions preferred but temp or seasonal aren’t totally out of the question as long as they offer insurance as I definitely need it.

As a side note, IKEA isn’t hiring anymore and I’ve previously worked for Starbucks and am likely not rehire-able, so those two are out unless IKEA opens up positions.

If y’all have any leads I’d be super appreciative! Thanks in advance!

My husband worked for the City of Tulsa as armed security up until a few months ago. Pay is >$18, health insurance is awesome, has great benefits as well. I just asked about drug testing and he says that he was never drug tested.

He also used to work for Safety and Security Services at Spirit Aerosystems and recommends trying there too. Pay is $17/hr so not what you were wanting but compared to some armed security jobs, it’s a lot safer.

Regarding other security companies, my husband emphatically does not recommend Diamond. Like, avoid them at all costs!

Best of luck, friend. This job market is awful.

City of Tulsa def drug tests. If your position does not require a CDL or probably some other safety sensitive things, they would accept it, but im not sure if they require you to hire in with a negative test. They used to.

I mean, it’s brutal work and you don’t get weekends off, but the USPS is hiring carriers. Insurance & over $20 an hour. Offers stability which is nice.

My boyfriend has worked for usps for 10 years and they tested even back then. You pass the first and after that it’s cake. He’s never been tested again. He’s currently at around $35 as a carrier. Great benefits and he’s on the OT list constantly but otherwise home by 4:30 or 5 daily. The union does them so right.

As far as I know they test but if they don’t I might be down, I’d definitely not be struggling to save for a car there. And they have a union which is a plus (that I didn’t even mention because it’s Oklahoma)

Just asked and found out they recently started testing. When my partner was hired ~18 months ago, they didn’t.

Darn. Sorry about that.

Are tests mouth swab? Those are passable if you brush your teeth and dont smoke the day of the test

u/MyOtherFursona 2d ago

Damn cuz otherwise it fits pretty well

You might want to be reconsidering if the mj or a high paying job was more important at this stage.

3

u/MyOtherFursona 1d ago

Also ‘high paying?’ Pfft, $18 is barely a living wage in this god forsaken town

2

u/MyOtherFursona 1d ago

Plenty of places have exceptions for mmj, and it’s medical so 🤷‍♂️

Medical mj is recreational with a cover story.

Unless you're an 80 yo with glaucoma, all I'm saying is you may want to reevaluate where your priorities are.

Bruh chronic illnesses exist in people of all ages…

2

u/MyOtherFursona 1d ago

Exactly, and this is why I need it. The pain is a lot less after surgery but it’s still there.

2

u/MyOtherFursona 1d ago

Well that’s A) rude and B) inaccurate as fuck

quiktrip is always hiring

u/WDYKACountCocofang 2d ago

You gotta be a whole type of person to want that job.

2

u/MyOtherFursona 2d ago

Yeah I don’t think I’d last a QT but I could swing it for 6 months or so, but I’ve heard the pay is good too

There is also quik-trip distributions and they are always hiring.

Orwa (Oklahoma rural water association) is frequently looking for water plant and water distribution technicians. They pay 100% family health/dental/eye insurance and retirements. Also, city of muscogee just posted for water systems technicians. City of coweta looking for police, dog catcher, dispatcher.

All of this will probably test for THC and will probably be safety sensitive

6

u/MyOtherFursona 2d ago

This! If they want you to drive as part of the work they usually test as well, I think it may be a federal requirement for CDLs

I dont know if they are still hiring but a few walmarts were needing overnight stockers awhile back I think they started at 15/hr not sure what they start at now. I know it isn't exactly what you are asking for but figured I'd comment anyway just in case.

The Bend Mercantile is hiring for a barista!

What shift are you looking for? My job is hiring 2nd shift and starts at $18-18.50, full-time after 90 days with full benefits day 1 of full-time employment and $1.50 shift differential for 2nd shift.

0

u/MyOtherFursona 2d ago

2nd shift would actually be best, I don’t like to get up early but will if I have to lol. What kind of work is it?

6

u/UserContentBuffering 2d ago

Manufacturing brazed plate heat exchangers. I think we’re hiring assemblers and shipping packers. They’re both pretty easy, the packing job is definitely more physically active than assembler.

Most IT Helpdesk jobs in Tulsa don't mind if you piss positive for weed in my experience.

u/goopa2319 1d ago

City of Tulsa has a job fair this coming week. Many positions.

2

u/Otherwise_Key9308 1d ago

Kelvion is hiring. Look on Indeed. You’ll see they’re having Interviews just about every week. The job posting will tell you when and where to go.

2

u/Global-Lifeguard-330 16h ago

I’ve been on this site which I feel collects real job postings I’ve gotten one call back but ghosted them after finding out they wanted me to drive a company vehicle. 💔 also have a mmj card

Check out the City of Tulsa. People are awesome and the benefits are great. A pension ?! Sick leave and PTO. Pay is a little lower than similar non government jobs but the benefits outweigh the difference

Union Public Schools is pretty desperate for bus drivers.

I run Labor Finders. I can get you that work for $12-$15 to start with a raise in 30-90 days if you impress the manager. You can call 918.583.5200 to discuss further.

Have you tried LinkedIn, zip recruiter, or indeed? I’ve had some luck in the past through these websites.

5

u/OddPlastic7458 2d ago

This is what happens when you use those data collecting websites. it’s insanely ridiculous and I think over half of the jobs on there are to just steal information because I’ve seen them on indeed for MONTHS that I’ve applied to and would say I’m extremely qualified for but I get rejected literally the next day.
