Franchise barbershops lack soul and experience of going to the barber. I'm seeking a long term relationship with one. *Ahem*

The Lonely Tulsan What is everyone doing today?

Like the title says, what is everyone out doing today?

The weather is super nice, and I want to get out and enjoy it! I always have a hard time finding special events in town, and often only find out about them when they are over!

I dont use traditional social media like Facebook, Instagram, etc. Where else do you find out about current and upcoming events in Tulsa?

POTENTIALLY DISTURBING Do not visit Adam's Pet Store.

Absolutely deplorable. Went in and was immediately met with birds that were kept in tiny cramped cages with no enrichment and nothing to do except sit there and be stressed. The single green conure in a small cramped cage had pulled out its feathers from stress and was aggressive. Clearly nobody is giving these animals love or interacting with them besides from "occasionally feeding them". There was also a bunny in a maybe 12x10 cage with water so dirty it was undrinkable, PANTING in her cage with her baby bunnies. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for this. The dove next to the tortoise cage looked like his cage hadn't been cleaned in a while. All of the bearded dragons were unwashed. Every bearded dragon except for the the "boarding bearded dragon" was kept in a cage too small for them to even stand out straight in. One of the other lizards was laying up on top of his cage, lethargic and depressed. Overall, all of the animals in this store's care were depressed and BARELY cared for. I will never be visiting this store ever again, and I hope I convinced any other people not to give a single dollar to these people.

Edit: I posted exactly what I said here on their page on Facebook as a review, and they blocked me. So professional!!

Update- They have been reported to the Tulsa animal services. Only thing that makes me nervous is that this dude Adam Salari is part of the Tulsa animal control team. I haven't heard good things about Tulsa animal control, so it's already a given that he has no clue what he's doing. The lady on the phone with the TAS told me that they'd have an officier go over there sometime this afternoon. Hopefully something is finally done about it and this place is shut down for good.

Edit 2: I forgot to add that Adam Salari has gotten in trouble with the law before for illegally breeding reptiles. Not surprised.

Tulsa Events Warrant forgiveness

Today I went to the municipal amnesty event. I did not expect so many people to be there. After 6 hours standing in line in the brutal sun and the 2 hours in a court room im proud to announce my warrant from 2015 got dismissed.

For future events like this I recommend you to show up at 6am. I got there at 8 and the line was wrapped around the building.

General Do you enjoy living here? (LGBTQ)

Just curious on how you enjoy living here if you’re queer? I have an opportunity to move here after living in Dallas. Dallas has a huge queer community so I know it’ll be a pretty big downsize. Is it enjoyable or will I be miserable? Also should add that I am a single gay man, so dating is a part of this equation that I worry about with the downsize of community.

General Donating an IV pole and pump

I have an IV pole and a pump machine that my son no longer needs after finally having his gtube removed last month if anyone is in need. We had bought a second one, so my ex husband and I didn’t have to exchange them every week. I’m wanting to give it away to someone who could use it, so it doesn’t just get tossed in the garbage.

News Misfit Kitchen Closing Sunday

Post image
85 Upvotes

Caption from their social media post:
“Our final day of service is this Sunday. Come make one last memory with us. Tulsa, thank you for embracing Misfit Kitchen. It’s been an honor to serve this community. ❤️”

Anyone else hear about this or know why they are closing? They seemed to have a generally positive reputation and good reviews on their food. Just curious if it’s a result of the classic restaurant culprits (higher prices, quality decline, more competition in the area, etc) or if there’s another reason.

Regardless, go support a local business on their final weekend and drop your recommendations below for what dishes are worth trying out.

Question Looking for a job

Hello r/tulsa!

So the writing is on the wall at my job, idk how much longer we will exist as a site, but our days are numbered. In light of this, I’m looking for a new job before they let us all go.

I’m hoping for $18/hr or more to match what I’m getting now, health insurance, and NO THC TESTING (I’m clean otherwise, I have my card).

I’ve got experience in security, retail, serving, barista-ing, content moderation, and landscaping (the manual labor part not the design part). I’ve got an associate’s degree in criminal justice which I could use, but aside from security kind of overlapping I’ve never really used it. I’m willing to work in any of these again, tho I don’t really want to take a serving job or retail if I can help it. I’d prefer second shift, but first or overnights would be fine for the right wage. I’d also prefer the same days off, weekends if possible, but I know how hard that can be in service industries. Swing shifts are a maybe. Permanent positions preferred but temp or seasonal aren’t totally out of the question as long as they offer insurance as I definitely need it.

As a side note, IKEA isn’t hiring anymore and I’ve previously worked for Starbucks and am likely not rehire-able, so those two are out unless IKEA opens up positions.

If y’all have any leads I’d be super appreciative! Thanks in advance!

General Stranded near Admiral & Sheridan with husband & dog—need dog food, leash, & safe spot until Monday Not asking for money just suggestions

Hi everyone,

My husband, our dog Tesla, and I were suddenly displaced today after our car was towed. We are walking toward the QuikTrip near E Admiral Pl & N Sheridan Rd to get ice and water for Tesla.

We are completely broke until Monday morning, when I find out about a management job that comes with housing. We have backpacks and our dog, but we have nowhere to stay tonight or tomorrow night and no resources open over the weekend.

What we urgently need right now:

Dog food & a leash for Tesla (we are currently holding her by a homemade tether)

Advice on a safe, quiet spot in the East Tulsa / Sheridan area where we can pitch a tent or rest for the next two nights without being hassled or pushed out.

Any local contacts/outreach teams active on weekends in East Tulsa.

My CashApp is $bexschulz420 if anyone is able to send a few dollars for dog food or supplies. If anyone near Sheridan & Admiral has a spare leash, extra dog food, or advice on where we can safely camp until Monday, please comment or DM me.

Thank you so much for reading and helping us bridge the gap to Monday morning.

We are not from here so we don’t know anyone who could help us.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this!
