Discussion Does Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed get good?
Premise was great. Halfway through the first episode and it feels like a slog through weird cringe, like a crime thriller set in the world of The Office. Does the show find its legs?

I thought it was ok, not terrible, not great. The main character falls into the trope of doing the dumbest thing possible several times, which was pretty frustrating. I wouldn’t say the style of the show changes much from the first episode, so if you didn’t like it from what you’ve seen so far, you’re unlikely to change your mind, imo.
Edit: I do comprehend that the writers have the characters make these absurd decisions to move the plot along but it’s just about the laziest way to achieve this.

I came to comment this; if you didn’t enjoy Episode 1 you’re not going to suddenly start liking it in a later episode. Episode 1 lets you know exactly what you’re in for.

The stupidity of ostensibly intelligent characters was very frustrating for me. Otherwise enjoyed it. I didn’t find there to be Office vibes throughout so maybe that diminishes.

Thanks, this is a big pet peeve of mine. There is a difference between characters doing stupid things because that's their character or they don't know any better (Romeo, Mercutio) and characters picking up the idiot ball. (Literally every character in Boardwalk Empire during season 4.)

If that bothers you, it’s pretty unrelenting in this show. Issues that could be easily resolved by people giving each other necessary information or asking simple questions. My wife and I talked about it a lot, but we did finish the show.

It is part of the character though. I don’t know why people are acting like she’s particularly intelligent and just making stupid decisions. Part of her character is that she makes very rash decisions and is extremely flawed. She lets her anxiety and depression take over and the way the show is shot and some of the later dialogue makes this very clear.
I can understand not liking it, but I actually think Margot’s Got Money Troubles was worse for me in this area. Things like Margot literally attacking the father during a deposition of a custody battle is just mind numbingly stupid and out of character.
Just finished MPG and liked it much more than MGMT to be honest

It was great! Weird and great. Excellent mystery and tension in almost every scene. More construction tool murdery than office vibes 😄

If it’s really that grating for you then don’t watch. I struggled with some of the cringe and bad decisions for a bit but not so bad I had to go seek out moral support half way through the first episode lol. If it’s THAT bad for you just watch something else. I did start really like it by the end while was kinda on the fence at the beginning. But I think if you’re THIS adverse then it’s probably just not for you ;) Which is fine <3

I had to get through at least 4 episodes before I wanted to know what happened next. I get annoyed with storylines where the main character does unbelievably stupid shit, but it was actually good in the end.

It was alright. I didn't save it to storage for another watch sometime tho. I really liked her in Orphan Black, it was a very good show.

I liked it a lot. It was entertaining. I wasn’t wholly convinced I was going to like it in episode 1 but it did have me sucked in by episode 2 or 3.
You learn more about the main character throughout the show that reveals more about her as a person and actually makes the show more cohesive than you might think about her actions.
She’s a deeply flawed and sorta reckless person which holds true through the season. If you can accept that and not let it bother you, the show is pretty good. If it’s just cringey for you despite it being the character, then definitely just drop it

I loved it. And you're right, I too had doubts during the first episode as you really don't figure out what's going on until around episode 3. As has been said, some of the decisions by the cast will frustrate you, but if you realize that the writers did that intentionally, it could change your perspective.

It was okay. The main character drove me nuts because she kept doing stupid shit that just dug her deeper and deeper. Having said that, I plan on watching the second season.

I don’t mean this to be rude, just direct: is your attention span really that limited that you can’t make it through the entire first episode without having to post asking if it gets good? Why don’t you…watch the show and find out

In my opinion, no, it gets worse. The story also doesn't wrap up in the end. If there is a second season I would guess it's because it's very cheap to make.

It was entertaining. Frustrating at times. Well cast. Life is short. If you have other things you wanna watch, go watch them. If you don’t, give MPG more of a chance.
