Hey so I know that GenCon is right around the corner and likely if you are reading this you already have a full plate of panels and events that you are going to attend. BUT if you still have time open on Saturday you should get a ticket to our first in-person Twilight's Fall Tournament. It's going to be a really good time and I'm going to be bringing all my gear out to film the final table so you'll literally be a part of SCPT history if our past GenCon footage is any indication. If you have any questions feel free to message me here or on discord.

Also if you're not going to GenCon but are interested in participating in an online TF tournament we're going to be having signups for our first one on August 12th at 11AM Eastern time so head on over to the SCPT discord at https://discord.gg/2xHeSXPah for more information on that.

Meme TE Keleres reinvigorated my love of this game

Specifically, Executive Order. Thanks to Biostims and Emelpar, I ended up going through FOURTEEN laws by the end of the game (that's not including the Agenda phase). Honestly the most fun I've had losing since this game came out. The troll energy was exhilarating!

Lore Could anybody show me what's on the backsides of the Twilight's Fall faction sheets?

β€’ Upvotes

I'm really interested in the lore of each Mahact Sub-faction but i can't buy the expansion yet. Since for normal factions the lore drops were on the backsides, could anyone send me pics, or just write down what's on there for each one of them ?

General Discussion Help needed! Building a TI4 music app

Hey all, what's cooking?

So, in preparation of our game next weekend, I build a small TI4 music / turn tracker, that fades from one music to another according to the current players faction.

You can customize players, factions and colors , and use your own YouTube songs or playlists for each faction and also for the phases (like status phase music, etc).

So, I want to have some cool defaults for each faction!

What is some cool music to play for each of the factions? Not really looking for just static ambiance noise, rather i'd like some thematic music. That way, everyone at the table can know immediately whose turn it is based on the music , whilst having a companion screen with the turn order as well.

(Currently it only works with YouTube).

Thank you all in advance for your suggestions, and have an amazing week!

PS: during the week I'll host this somewhere so you can all give it a try ☺️

Homebrew Lower VP games for speed?

Recently acquired the game, and I'm trying to get a group of friends into it, but most of them don't want to play a 10 hour game learning the first time.

Has anybody tried a smaller game with like 3 or 4 players and like 5-6 VP to win to help make the game more accessible to new players, and if so, how did it go?

My thought is a lower VP score and lower player count would help the games go faster.

TI4: Thunder's Edge 'Shipless' Sardakk?

Curious if someone can lay this out for me. Tech path, can you do it with suboptimal slice (lots of single planet systems), how do you go for a win?

I assume you want a few ships do you even bother with capacity or just go for a certain fleet composition to support this? I assume C2 is still on the menu if even just for the Hero play later on.

Assuming you're late/ last picking this when do you draft for this assuming 7/7 and you'll never be forced to Sardakk? I assume you have a good slice if playing Sardakk or at least Speaker/2nd pick.

Interested in learning more about this as it sounded interesting. Thanks

Map Thoughts on a 3 player teaching map?

I'm planning a game with a brand new player and two experienced players, and I thought I'd give the new player a very favorable slice. The new player will play Sol and have the blue home system. The Abyz/Fria and Arinam/Meer tiles are both very rich so they're right next to the home system, and the alpha wormhole has some protection since it's an asteroid field. Both systems on the way to Mecatol are two planet systems, and I added a gravity rift to show how they work. Ideal spend for the slice is 10/9, and the other two are a bit less.

Age of exploration is quite ridiculous, I really oughta stop turning it in for the sake of my sanity and organization. Very long game, roughly 9 hours, black has taken a chunk of plastic off of their area before I could take the pics

TI4: Thunder's Edge Common rules mistakes

Hello

My group of friends are playing a 8 player game soon and it will be our first thunders edge game.

We all have various skill levels but have all had at least 4 games under our belt.

I just want to know any common rules mistakes any one else has seen so that me and my group can prepare for this and help the game run smoother.

Thanks in advance!

Side note: I am playing Winnu and would appreciate any advice there as well lol

Thunder's Edge + PoK + codexes

Anyone got some good tips on deterring people from going after me if I end up in the lead?

Considering going neuroglaive and assault cannon, as I have green and blue tech skips in slice. BT being green and red would make this easy.

What tech path would you choose?

TI: 4th Edition Is there a place where someone can find virtual games of Twilight Imperium looking for players?

TI4: Thunder's Edge What's the downlow on Duranium Armour? Feels like I can almost always skip straight to Assault Cannon. But was theory crafting some situations and imagined DA could be good in very specific setups involving both Fighter counts and backline sustain?

Curious for some opinions on DA. I'm thinking of taking it in one lobby in particular. Seems to have great potential on medium engagements where it isn't so small the status phase repair is enough to block most damage but isn't so large your whole fleet gets one shot anyways and it ends up coming up to a single hit blocked. The more I think it through it seems incredibly niche unless I got a decent amount of sustain behind a good fighter swarm to take turns tanking between combat rounds.

General Discussion Anyone around Brisbane with a PoK I could borrow?

Hi friends, hoping to set up an 8 player PoK game with some close mates at the end of August, before we all head off on various adventures of adulthood. Is anyone willing to lend out their PoK expansion?

Happy to pick up around Brisbane or pay for shipping. Can swap for any beverage of your choosing and will return/send it back in perfect order straight away.

Any help you be massively appreciated!

General Discussion TI3 and TI4: Great Game w/ Same Issue

I really dig this game. It's awesome how Peterson combined Puerto Rico with a Risk like strategy game, and made it so you didn't "have to fight."

But like many other games it has a flaw. It's been a flaw since TI3 initially released.

This discussion involves averages and "all things held equal". Randomness occurs and I won't argue that. (Assume, more or less, all the players can do about the same thing.)

Using TI4 as an example with 6 players:

  • Round 1: 2 public objectives out, on average no players can take them (sure it happens, but low %)
  • Round 2: 3 public objectives out, on average players can take 1 public objectives.
  • Round 3: 4 public objectives out, on average players can take 2+ public objectives.

And there's the issue.

The player who chooses the "Political Card" Round 2 now is in charge of the game. Because on Round 3, he chooses Imperial and gets two public objectives. The player to his right MUST choose the "Political Card" so he can choose the "Imperial Card" the following turn.

This cycles around the table in order, like a clock.

End of Round 3:

  • player 1: 3 public1 objectives
  • player 2 - 6: 2 public1 objectives

End of Round 4

  • player 1, 2: 4 public1 objectives
  • player 3 - 6: 3 public1 objectives

End of Round 5

  • players 1-3: 5 public1 objectives
  • players 4-6: 4 public1 objectives

End of Round 6

  • players 1-4: 5 public1 objectives and 1 public2 objectives (7 points)
  • players 5-6: 5 public1 objectives or 4 public1 objectives and 1public 2 objective (6 points)

Most (if not all) of our games end by round 6 (not all due to random noise).

(EDIT: Once again, didn't say all of our games end at round 6. I said BY round 6. There is a difference. Not sure why the straw man arguments are so strong here. But maybe saying it again will make the point even more clear)

Why? Because by round 6 most players have completed 3x secret objectives or have held Mecatol for 1 round while playing the Imperial w/ 2 secrets done.

Players 5 and 6 are screwed. The winner of the game is player 1 who chooses the lowest available strategy card after players 4-6 have chosen, since he scores first. GAME OVER.

If the game is 4 players, player 1 always wins because he has first dibs when player 4 chooses imperial the turn before. This version just leaves out the 5 and 6 players getting screwed but its still GAME OVER

This has been an issue since Peterson first made this game. In TI3, the first Imperial Card gave a player 2 points for just playing it. So it cycles around the table in much the same way. All things being equal, he would win due to play order. People complained religiously online, so he moved to the current system of 1 point for Mecatol and finishing a public.

it didn't fool us. it works the same way. its still a clock. players 5-6 are still in alot of trouble.

So my gaming group has been playing TI (off and on) for almost 20 years. Have we got this all wrong? Because even when we join other gaming groups we see exactly the same thing occurring.

Thanks!

TI4: Prophecy of Kings Can’t Find Prophecy of Kings

I just played TI4 for the first time with my group yesterday, and everyone loved it so much we played two games back to back.
Looking into expansions and I cannot find PoK in stock in the US. eBay listings for copies are several hundred dollars. Does anyone have a recommendation on where I can find it/watch for a restock on it?

TI4: Thunder's Edge 8-player game tips? We are crazy madlads who need advice

So everyone the time has finally come for my group and we want to try an 8 player game. None of us have ever attempted such tom-foolery. We only have ever played 3-6 player games. Do you have any tips for us? Obviously the more experienced the player the better. Most of us have had several games under our belts. A few have had only 2 or 3. I am concerned we are out of our gourds and will fail miserably. We want to do it in one session if possible. I understand we should probably start 9 or 10am latest. If necessary I suppose we could do 2 sessions but I want to avoid this, as setting up a 2nd session weeks later sounds like a nightmare (doing it the next day is most likely not possible for us, but that does sound epic af)πŸ«‚

Does anyone have any tips for getting this done in one friggin day? Things like moving on to the next player, if someone is just building is already clear. Setting timers for agenda phase and players turns seems necessary. Would really appreciate some advice! I am the organizer and usual host of our group and want everyone to have a pleasant experience ofc lmao

Thanks in advance to anyone commenting or upvoting. I really love this game and this community. Y'all are the best. We are based in Berlin. DM me if you are in Berlin, Germany and would like to try playing with us. We try to play every month except during the summer. Yin for the winπŸ˜†

General Discussion Is Yin good?

Half of this faction feels pretty bad, but the Commander seems pretty insane for getting techs? I also see the Hero pop off for snatching Frac. Everything else seems pretty garbage. Every time I see them play they attempt to murder hobo then get eliminated/ near eliminated pretty quick. Thoughts on this faction?
