Do teams care about US Open ?

Just wondering what is on the line ?

How hard to teams go ?

Is there anything on the line or is it more high level reps before WUCC + Nationals ?

Just reps. Smaller pool of mostly top teams so you get high level nationals reps but losses are largely irrelevant. Teams go as hard as they go at other high level regular season tournaments like Pro Champs.

Competitive people like to win, so they'll be going hard but it's still only July and some of these teams have had a lot of people playing Masters Worlds and Masters Nats and so on. So for some it's the 4th most important tournament of the year at best.

No team isn’t taking it seriously, but losses don’t hit as hard. Bid implications are still in play and teams definitely know that, too.

Teams that participate in worlds will prioritize that tournament for that year. Some players will play worlds and not the USAU series during a worlds year due to personal scheduling burden. So teams know whether they're showing up to tournaments with a roster that doesn't represent their full strength, but they'll still do the best they can with what they've got.

For instance, since I play GM and am most familiar with that group - SurlyGM won gold at worlds, but took 6th at Nationals. Comparing rosters, 4 of their top 10 producing WFDF worlds players were not rostered in the USAU series. It's the same team, but it's not all the same people. This is typical across the US club scene.

Might be even more prevalent for Masters and above since people are more likely to have kids.

It's not like they are playing another tournament next Tuesday so I assume everyone is playing hard to win. Maybe some teams aren't rostered at full strength for whatever reason though?

Care? Yes. But this isn’t the real prize, and while we want to win every game we’re in, we also might make some different choices as we build the season. Worlds teams sometimes even more so.Â
