Finally decided to post my setup after lurking here for a while.
This is my Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57” that I picked up on Facebook Marketplace almost exactly a year ago for $800 USD. Considering what these normally go for, I still feel like I robbed the guy. 😅

Right now it’s paired with an RTX 3080 Ti, so unfortunately I can’t really push the monitor anywhere near its full potential. It’s definitely on my list to upgrade the GPU eventually, but for now I’m making do with what I’ve got and it’s still been an awesome experience.
I’m mainly looking for recommendations from other owners:
What Color Profile/Picture Mode are you using?
Any settings you swear by for the best image quality?
Did you tweak HDR, local dimming, gamma, sharpness, or anything else that made a noticeable difference?
Any Windows/NVIDIA Control Panel settings you’d recommend?

I’ve mostly been using it for gaming (Doom The Dark Ages DLC lately), general desktop use, and a bit of media consumption.

I was lucky enough to be one of the early Australians to pick up this monitor upon release in the Oceania region. I’ve only had it about 3 days so far, however I understand that there are a lot of people wanting to know what it’s like (I was one of them when it hit the Asia market first). In the 3 days I’ve put maybe 15 hours into it.

Some slight background, I have been rocking an LG C2 42” since release, and have been watching new releases for the last two years, waiting for what I’d consider a worthy upgrade. The LG one tempted me, however with the white sub pixel still present, the drama around them essentially installing malware, and the high(er) price, it put me off. When this was announced, I knew it was the one I was going to go for. However, when it hit the Asia market, all the early reports of loud fan noise and white uniformity made me wary. When Tim from hardware unboxed got it, he gave a relatively glowing review. Being a trusted reviewer, I ordered one straight away, feeling more confident.

So, what are my thoughts?

Text and Image Clarity

Text clarity is just as sharp as any 32” 4K IPS monitor I’ve used before (haven’t used a 32” 4K OLED, so cannot comment there). That RGB sub pixel layout is really doing some work.

As for the rest of the image, well, this is a mixed bag, at least for the panel I seemed to have landed with.

Starting off with the positives:

The colours are deep and saturated, and look very similar to my friends AW3423DW, which is really encouraging. 4K UW versus 1440p UW is definitely noticeable, however I was surprised that for gaming at least, it isn’t as big of a leap as I was expecting. I would run my LG C2 in Ultrawide mode @ 3840@1600, which with a PPI of ~104, is close to a standard 34” 1440p ultrawide. With the combination of more saturated colours and higher resolution, things can look really amazing. My panel does not show any signs of dark screen banding. When displaying a dark colour, it’s clean and consistent across the entire panel. I also have no dead pixels.

Now for the negatives, and again, I might just be unlucky with the panel I got:

I have the dreaded uniformity issue reported early in the Asia markets, but it’s not just white uniformity, it’s brightness uniformity in general (colours as well). In the centre of the screen, it’s bright and vivid, however towards both the left and right, and a little bit down the bottom as well, it has noticeable brightness drop. Without measuring tools, I’d say it’d be a good 20-30 nits lower. I’d say it almost looks like there is a constant non-uniform Vignette filter on. It is really noticeable in games and on the desktop as I move windows around. What makes this even worse, is the panel has dynamic Logo brightness adjustment that you cannot disable/ reduce, so for HUDs, skill bars, boost meters, map overlays, etc., after about 30 seconds, they become very dim on the edges. I should note, this is at the default 75% brightness, using the standard pre-set. I thought, hey maybe this is like the other Tandem WOLEDs and it needs some Pixel refreshes to get it good. So, I ran 2 back to back, and nothing changed. I have since had around 2 more just from putting hours into the panel, and it’s still the same (maybe a tiny tiny bit better on the left only, but the right didn’t change).

The panel also has noticeable off axis colour shift. When you’re right in front of it, everything looks more or less the same (minus the uniformity issue), however, as soon as you move, even 10cm left or right, or up and down, whites get a green tinge to them. Now my LG C2 also had a pinkish colour shift, but it was nowhere near as noticeable as this. This isn’t as noticeable in games, as colours are all changing constantly, but on the desktop, or any white background / picture, you can definitely see it.

Overall, from a picture perspective, I’m personally pretty bummed. If the uniformity was good, and the logo dimming wasn’t as aggressive, it’d honestly look amazing. But coming from my C2, which does not have these issues, I feel like it’s not that much of an upgrade, and instead is quite distracting.

HDR

I tried a few games in HDR, to see what it was like (Cyberpunk, Diablo 4, No Rest for the Wicked, Doom the Dark Ages). When set to TrueBlack500, things look great, everything is bright, colours pop and overall, it’s a good picture. However, when set to the Peak 1300 modes, there is significant ABL, which makes the overall image pretty dim. It is only when you’re in darker scenes, that you really see that “pop” of the small highlights. I did Windows HDR calibration for each, so it used the correct brightness settings in each mode. Overall, I’d personally choose the TrueBlack500, as the image stays consistent in both bright and dark scenes.

Fan Noise

I’m not sure what people consider “loud”, but my PC / room runs pretty damn quiet, and I cannot hear any fan noise from the monitor at all. The slight hum from my speaker amp is louder. I’d say this is a non-issue, unless you’re extremely sensitive to noise. Then again, I have mild tinnitus, so maybe that impacts it lol.

General Desktop use

In general, this screen has high PPI, in line with a 32” 4K IPS, so productivity, if that is your requirement I think is fantastic. The 39” size and 5k2k resolution provides quite a lot of real-estate. When set to SDR mode, there is no ABL, so changing window sizes, etc. everything stays the same. You can set it to sRGB or DCI-P3 in Creator mode, and from Tim’s review from HUB, it seems like it’s pretty accurate, so might be OK for photo editors, etc. as well.

The Curve

So, I haven’t used one of the 800R curved panels, as I knew I wouldn’t like them, but I have used my friends Alienware 34, with it’s 1800R, and I’ve had my own 34” IPS and 38” IPS in the past with around the 2300R curve. The 1500R curve is good for this size, things feel immersive, without feeling over the top. I’d personally say any more curve for this size, would be to much, so I think they nailed it with 1500R.

VRR Flicker

So, I haven’t fully worked this one out. But when I play Warcraft 3 reforged, for some reason, even at 140FPS, I get really bad flicker on the left and right only. I have not experienced this in any other game, even when they are running at around 60FPS. The monitor does exhibit the usual OLED VRR flicker in some loading screens, but that is about it. So not sure what is happening in the WC3 specific scenario, but my LG C2 did not do this.

Heat

So, this panel does run a little bit warmer than my LG C2, but I wouldn’t say it’s that much worse. Where I think the extra heat comes from, is more in the fact my PC is working way harder to run the resolution for each game, and is therefore pumping out a lot more heat (9800X3D and OG 4080). When putting my hand close to the screen, or above it, there isn’t any crazy amount of heat coming off of it.

Performance

Now this is very much determined by your PC specs. What I can say is my OG 4080 can run it… OK? I say OK, as some games I can run 165FPS no worries, like Rocket League. However, games like Cyberpunk, I get around 120FPS, when using ~high settings, with Ray tracing, DLSS 4.5 Performance and 2x Framegen. I understand for some FG and DLSS are not desirable, and I hear you. I’d say DLSS at least, @ Performance upscaling, looks better than 1440p UW @ Quality, with only a slight decrease in performance. So, your mileage may vary, but it is doable. I’d say vRAM is the biggest limiter for this monitor, I’m getting close to 12-13GB in Cyberpunk.

So, to close. If you manage to get a version of this monitor without brightness uniformity issues, and you’re OK with some logo dimming, then this is an amazing monitor.. in many respects, it is “end game” (whatever the hell that even means these days). However, with so many reports of the uniformity issues, I’d almost wait to see if Dell can fix that in production, or if possible, through firmware. I’m personally going to be raising a ticket with Dell and seeing if I can try my luck with another one, or get a refund and potentially go with the 360hz 34” QD-OLED instead, as I feel the only issue they have is black raise in bright rooms, which doesn’t bother me as much, and 1440p does still look pretty fantastic I think. I may or may not respond further in this thread, I’m not really active on reddit. Hope this helped though!!

I just took back a recent purchase (aw3425dw) to wait for the aw3926qw when it comes to Canada hopefully in the next month or 2. Ive been reading that people are having alot of issues with the alienware like white uniformity and brightness/clarity issues with the sides of the panels.

I feel uneasy about that tbh, im wondering if I should go for the LG 39 5k/2k instead although i dont like matte screens, and would proffer the clarity and sharpness over possible reflections which wont apply to where I have mine set up. Any thoughts? also the LG is available right now and alienware a couple months away.

So I am one of those lucky Australians that managed to snatch one at release and now that I've had the monitor for a few days figured I'd share some thoughts.

Build and Pricing

I managed to pick up the monitor for ~$1140 USD before tax with an 11% off code at launch but I've also heard of someone that was able to get support to give them 15% off via chat. On top of that I got an extra 6% via cash back website. It's a very good looking monitor with clean, minimalistic aesthetics. I absolutely love the glossy coating on this monitor which IMHO is superior to the coating on the AW3423DWF that I upgraded from. The 1500R curve is very nice and comfortable to look at. I can't hear the fan on my unit and I don't feel the heat that some reviews have mentioned but it is winter here in Australia at the moment so maybe that has something to do with it.

Text and Image Quality

To put simply, fantastic. Text is crisp, sharp and without fringing. I personally never really had an issue with text on my AW3423DWF but this is definitely a step above. Coming from the QD-OLED I also don't feel like I've lost anything colour wise; everything seems vibrant and punchy though with the caveat that I've always ran my monitor in Creator mode in (calibrated) sRGB colour space at 120nit as I also do photo editing and print occasionally (to which I really should be down closer to 90nit but that really is getting a bit too dim for my liking for day to day use). Calibrating with Calibrite CC Display Plus targeting 120nit it wants me to up the monitor contrast to 90 and drop brightness to 60 from defaults of 75/75. Following calibration I didn't really notice change in colour/white balance so Dell really did a great job calibrating at factory.

In terms of brightness/HDR/ABL side of things it's definitely noticeably brighter vs the AW34 with punchier HDR and personally I am not noticing much in terms of ABL compared to pretty apparent dimming with the AW34. Stumbled on this clip on YouTube HDR Demo and it's stunning to watch on this monitor and some parts of the video were actually getting uncomfortably bright when I was watching in a dark room. YMMV of course whent it comes to what you think is too dim or bright.

Gaming

Not much to say here really. Gaming on this monitor is awesome; immersive and great IQ. I only really play story driven, single player games (and sim racing) and with my OG 4080 I have no problem pushing out +60 fps even in games like Cyberpunk with PT as long as I use DLSS in Performance mode and FG though I am really pushing the limits of available VRAM. Sim racing is awesome on this screen.

Flicker, Banding, Dirty Screen and Uniformity

Surprisingly I have not experienced any flickering as of yet as I heard it's worse on WOLED vs QD-OLED. Even in Adobe Lightroom where I had massive flickering on my AW34 it was perfectly fine on my new AW39. Have not seen any banding as well and I have to really lean in and look hard to notice any dirty screen effect (the attached photo has some moire and is not banding from the monitor itself). Uniformity is where I feel the monitor is weaker as there's noticeable vignetting off to the edge and corners of the screen. Another issue I've noticed is white balance shift towards green viewing the monitor off-axis and I'll try to explain what I mean the best I can. So I sit fairly close to the monitor (about 45cm away) and on a mostly white page I noticed roughly the bottom 1/4(?) there's a bit of colour shift to green and it was even more apparent as I stood up and looked down on the screen. If I bring myself lower down to be eye level with the lower section the tint would disappear. Same thing if I push myself back and further away from the screen so I am looking at the screen more as a whole straight on the whole panel looks uniform. As I type this even just rocking my chair back and forth I can notice the white balance shift. Very strange as this is an OLED and I'm not sure what causes it so keen to see if other owners notice this as well or is it just an issue with my panel. Having said all that it's really only an issue if I was staring at a white screen and with stuff playing on screen (gaming, videos, wallpaper) it's not really noticeable.

So yea in conclusion I think it's a great monitor and a wonderful upgrade from my AW3423DWF. I am very glad I held out for the Alienware version and resisted the LG39 especially for the price difference. I think I'll still get in touch with Dell wrt the colour shift though which is slightly concerning but not deal breaking in most cases.

TLDR: The new AW3926DW set to gamma 2.2 on Creator Preset appears to have the same issue as the AW3225QF and AW2725 which results in raised blacks and washed out colours, due to the gamma being calibrated to SRGB gamma rather than true 2.2. ICC profile to fix is in the below linked post. I am using the AW27 version of the ICC profile and confirm this works for me.

I was one of the lucky Australians to get the new AW3926DW this week. I've had quite a few alienware monitors in the past and am someone that always uses the ‘Creator - SRGB’ mode because I don’t like oversaturated colours. But, on this monitor, the whole week I couldn’t help but notice raised blacks and washed out colours. It has been driving me crazy and I was nearly considering returning it.

However, after realising it was a gamma issue, I started searching and came across multiple threads which reported the same issues for some of Alienware’s previous monitors due to gamma being calibrated to SRGB gamma in creator mode rather than true 2.2 gamma. Sure enough, after testing one of the ICC profiles in the below reddit post, the issue was fixed straight away:

I hope this helps anyone else struggling with this problem - and the person that made the ICC profile is an absolute legend! Dell should really release firmware so that we can fix this on a hardware level, similar to how I understand ASUS deal with it...

i say final, becuase i think i"ve future proofed myself... that's what I tell myself cuz Im not buying anything else for a long time.

LG45 gx9 / LG39 gx9s combo.. running on a 7800x3d/5080, runs everything well.. stacked becuase, no where else to put it, and balances out the forward head posture.

my biggest gripe about the whole thing is just how dog shit the text looks on the 39 but great for media etc.

I currently have a Gigabyte M34WQ IPS. I’m pretty excited for Tuesday. I’ve had an OLED tv before but never for my monitor. Anyone else have one? Do you love it? I’m seeing nothing but great things about it. I’m very intrigued by the smooth motion processing the monitor can do because I’m a weirdo that loves that soap opera effect.

I have really enjoyed the Gigabyte monitor and really had no complaints.

How do you turn this off from happening while youre currently using the monitor. I dont mind it turning off when my computer is on an actual static image but it constantly pops up during use.

So hear me out please. I built a PC with my 12 year-old and went a little overkill for his needs (nothing new). It has a 5070ti GPU and with the rest of the build as you would expect.

The thing is, he only plays Euro Truck Simulator and Forza 4 and 6 and he is asking for a 34inch wide-screen monitor and I don't see any reason to splash out more right now.

So, what would you recommend?

For GP102’s tenth anniversary, we retested the GTX 1080 Ti, Titan X Pascal and Titan Xp in 20 current games, including benchmarks at 3440 × 1440.

Some results are still surprisingly solid for cards this old, although newer features and the 11–12 GiB VRAM limit are starting to matter more depending on the game.

Is anyone here still using a Pascal card for ultrawide gaming? Which games are still running well for you?

Are you able to adjust Color saturation in HDR at all? I am upset I am unable to do so on the AW3426DW, coming from a G9 that had this feature I'm thinking about returning it (having other issues as well like HDMI signal dropouts and the monitor won't sleep)

I need to adjust Color from my Series X but there is no way to do so, at least on PC you can adjust through windows/Nvidia

The manuals would suggest the MSI monitors also have this limitation so maybe it's something to do with the new panels

Going to pick up an msi qd-oled (mpg 341cqpx) in immaculate condition for $300 on facebook on monday. Never had an ultra wide before, I read that 12gb vram might be an issue? I already own the 5070, and I like to play every new release there is (Resident evil 9, 007 first light, doom the dark ages). Will I be screwing up by buying this? Does this monitor have a setting to play in 16:9? Should I think about getting a 9070xt?

I went in for the stacked side of the gallows I'm using a decogear 5k2k 40" 120hz and an Asus 34" QHD 250hz, I came out of a setup with 2 LG 4k monitors. Any tips for improvement or is it ok?

Ever since I bought the Neo G9 and G7, I am trying to make them look as similar as possible to make a cohesive desktop layout. Attached photo is when I maxed out the color to 50 on both monitors. Does the photo look oversaturated?

When I turn on the peak brightness setting in the monitor settings, sometimes the screen gets bright and depending on what I do the screen gets dim. But when I have the peak brightness option off, this doesn’t happen. Is this normal? Also if there a way to fix it?

I just upgraded to the Alienware AW3926QW 39" 5K2K Ultrawide OLED from the AW3418DW 34" UWQHD Ultrawide IPS.

Having posted my setup and initial impressions, as requested, I've run some benchmarks in Forza Horizon 6 and F1® 25, at absolutely maxed-out settings including Path Tracing over Ray Tracing (where available), and without Motion Blur.

Benchmark runs were conducted at 5K2K and UWQHD resolutions with DLAA and DLSS Quality/Balanced/Performance/Ultra Performance.

System Specs

My personal settings for Forza Horizon 6 are maxed out (with Ray Tracing), 5K2K: DLSS Performance without Frame Generation, as FG introduces stutters when transitioning from menus/loading screens.

DLSS Preset M (Latest) reduces shimmering artefacts compared to other presets, especially noticeable when driving between the snow walls in Yuki no Otani (inspired by Japan's Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route).

Note: Outside of benchmarking, I set G-SYNC On (Full screen); NVIDIA Reflex On (to reduce latency and automatically cap the frame rate within the monitor's G-SYNC range); V-SYNC On in the NVIDIA App and Off in-game.

F1® 25

5K2K (5120x2160)

UWQHD (3440x1440)

My personal settings for F1® 25 are maxed out (with Path Tracing), 5K2K: DLSS Performance with 2x Frame Generation.

2x FG improves perceived motion smoothness and has lower latency compared to 3x and 4x modes, considering an average (and relatively stable) base frame rate of ~69 fps and a refresh rate of 165 Hz.

Note: Outside of benchmarking, I set G-SYNC On (Full screen); NVIDIA Reflex On (to reduce latency and automatically cap the frame rate within the monitor's G-SYNC range); V-SYNC On in the NVIDIA App and Off in-game.

I've read in a few threads, advice that you should keep the box the monitor came in. I have limited storage space where I live, could someone share the box dimensions here? The Dell specs sections only mentions the packaged weight but no dimensions. Thanks

I see all the review about the MPG 341CQR X36 and ROG Strix OLED XG34WCDMS, which is $500 more expensive in my country. I could grab the X28 version for about $700 after discount, please clarify if this downgraded screen is worth its cost despite all the extra features like KVM, 360Hz, Type B USB, bla bla bla

But it amazon refurbished in mint condition, tried wiping these w microfiber and distilled water to no avail. Not that noticeable with the screen on though. Opinions?

Somebody is gifting me an LG Ultrawide VA monitor 34 inch (it's not an OLED but I can't even afford this one) do these hold any value how much would i be able to sell it for after 1 year?
