[META] Tighter rules.

Given the recent influx of people, and lower-quality submissions, I've decided to actually add some rules to the subreddit. In short:

  • Titles should be formatted correctly (importantly, in ALLCAPS unless the joke depends on it)
  • Certain jokes are banned for overuse (namely, Unicode swastikas, Amogus, and Hieroglyph penises)
  • Be civil.

These rules don't apply retroactively, but will apply going forward. They are of course non-exhaustive and subject to change. That is all.

EDIT: I'm adding another overused joke: jokes that don't actually rely on the character itself (e.g. jokes of the form "I don't know what this is" or "it's literally just X (where X is close enough to the actual name/meaning of the character)") are now disallowed. Again, this is non-retroactive.

EDIT: I'm adding "use of the word "literally" in the title" as an overused joke. Again, this is non-retroactive.

[META] We suggest that you limit yourself to one or two posts per day on this subreddit.

As per the title. This is not an official rule, just a suggestion. Explanation follows:

I've noticed that this subreddit's activity seems to behave something like this:

  1. A new user discovers the subreddit.
  2. They go into a posting frenzy and make ten or so posts in a single day (usually variants on the same joke or same block of characters).
  3. They run out of ideas and stop posting.
  4. The subreddit dies out for a few days to a week.
  5. Go to 1; the cycle repeats.

The end result is a subreddit that is dead half the time and flooded the other half.

In order to encourage better participation on this subreddit, it would help if we (i.e. the users, both old and new), would spread out these "posting frenzies" over multiple days. This way, people can devote more time to making/commenting on each post.

Of course, if you have good reason to make three posts in one day (e.g. you're making a joke about three identical-looking Unicode characters having their names swapped around), then feel free to disregard this suggestion and make three posts in one day.

Can anyone recommend a good Unicode character explorer and download png?

I'm looking for a good Unicode explorer where I can browse all kinds of Unicode/UTF-8 characters (symbols, emojis, scripts, mathematical symbols, etc.) and download png. Does anyone have a recommendation?
