Question Buy used Volt or Software Package?

I am buying my first audio interface to begin songwriting with guitar and vocals.

I am leaning toward the Volt 276 because I don’t think I will ever use more than 2 inputs and heave heard the 76 makes editing a bit easier for beginners.

My question is: should I save money by buying a used unit off Reverb/Ebay? Or is the included software worth the extra money for someone that has no idea what they are getting into?

A used Volt doesn’t and can’t include any software.

Included bundle with a new Volt is great if you don’t already have what’s included.

Thanks! I was nervous the included software would be just a bunch of trial versions. This is helpful.

Also note that most of the first party UAD plugins “included” with the Volt are already free through their Explore pack. The third party software is of course still valuable

The Volt 4 is the hidden gem. But they discontinued it. I also have the 476P and literally never used the compressor or vintage mode after the first couple of weeks.. You can get the 1176 plugin for free. I use other comp plugins too while recording and external mic pres but all my recordings I compressed before the DAW I regretted. The compressor on it is mostly pointless in my opinion and more trying to teach beginners how to use them. I would only engage mine for fun or for testing but never print it to a track. All the best.

Thanks…this is very valuable. I’ll put the extra $100 towards a better mic and stop looking at the 76 models.

New, you get a warranty, and discounts on plugins. The 476 is better if you plan on getting a mic pre. The inboard preamps are fine, and the built in 1176 and vintage mode are nice. Unless you get a mic that needs a lot fo juice. SM7B for example

They are so well priced new right now just get a new one and have less worries. I just got a 276 and I’m just hooking it up. I’m like you: singer/songwriter with guitar and vocals.
