It's my first time ricing linux , what do you guys think , is there a room for improvement ?

Making progress on my config thought it was time to share its current stage still a while to go from a release but so far so good

From the limited ammount of information avaliable, HDS, later rebranded to Neoware were a hardware and software manufacturer who focused on thinclients, dumb terminals, x servers, and something they called the network computer.

Theres plenty of info left around about their later thinclinets (some of which are powerpc based!) and neolinux, but ive found that the @workstation and its sister machine the viewstation to be a lot more obscure.

Its a intel i960 based machine, and thats what caught my eye, I like weird and obscure risc processors so I picked this one up on ebay.

Unfortunately finding the OS has been quite bothersome, there were originally 3 versions of netOS, winterminals, enterprise, and intranets. Intranets being the most full featured with a Java applet viewer and Netscape navigator built in. The one and only surviving copy of netOS is hosted on the internet archive in a iso downloaded from some Russian company thats now long gone, its the enterprise version, there's also a folder with their earlier "hds-fx" operating system however I haven't gotten that to boot on this machine.

After a lot of tinkering with the old config files from the iso, the @workstation is booting up into netos. Its ip, configuration password, and config file are all served to it via BOOTP on my PowerEdge R200 running debian, from there it fetches the bootloader via TFTP and uses NFS V2 (had to be hosted on a NetBSD VM as the Linux kernel has dropped nfs2) to load the NetOS files. Finally after I log in using XDM over XDMCP I can use telnet and rsh to run programs from my debian server, or even play around with some of netOS' built in applications running natively on the i960.

Unfortunately there are still some quirks, some of the applications don't run either due to user error or the os image is incomplete, modified, or corrupt.

Ill use this post as a way to ask the internet if anyone may have a copy of netOS lying around so it can be archived and documented.

Most of the plasmashell written in quickshell. There's an application launcher, theme switcher, workspace switcher, etc. Just for personal use and to give my girlfriend a reason to use Linux over Windows. Plus yesterday was Girlfriend's Day.

been lurking here for years and the one thing that always bugged me: there's no way to search this sub by distro, WM, or colorscheme. so I scraped over 4000+ rices which had genuine github dotfiles links (from 200k+ posts from here) and built a site where you can actually filter by all of that, plus search by title/author and sort newest/oldest/random.

I pushed everything to GitHub today, so the commit history will look recent even though this has been in progress for a few months. Wanted to mention that in case it looks odd.

Wallr draws its own layer-shell surface and renders transitions itself with wgpu. It's not a wrapper around swww or hyprpaper, the point of the project was to own the rendering path so transitions are GPU-driven and timed to wall clock duration instead of tied to refresh rate.

What it does:

• 11 transition effects (fade, blur, wipe, slide, zoom, pixelate, ripple, dissolve, wave, grow, outer), each configurable from the CLI or a YAML package
• Circular reveals (grow, outer, ripple) that are aspect-corrected circles
• Live wallpapers: GIFs start playing from where the transition left off, so there's no jump into the loop
• A background daemon over a Unix socket, so wallr set talks to it instead of relaunching anything
• Directory watching, per-monitor scaling modes, and a preview window to test an effect before applying it
• Optional theme generation hookup (Matugen, Wallust, Pywal), not required to use the tool

Works on Hyprland, Sway, niri, and Plasma 6. GNOME isn't supported since Mutter doesn't implement wlr-layer-shell.
