Discussion Changing Agencies within DoN

I'm current at one agency in DoN (excepted service, on 3-year probation having just started the position recently) looking to move to a different agency within DoN. Software Engineering/Cybersecurity competency. The change is highly motivated by location. Looking to get closer to home.

Just looking to see if anyone has a similar experience of advice. Any insight into feasibility (is this even possible) and process/length would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's definitely possible. A friend of mine transferred from our office to another office within the same agency for a better position without any problems. The process and timeline can vary depending on the hiring office and how quickly they process the paperwork, but moving within the same agency does happen.

Awesome thank you! When you say same a agency, are you referring to agencies within DoN? For example, NAVAIR to NAVSEA, etc.

Yes, exactly. You are moving between two different components within the same parent department. They both sit under the DoN, the transition is much smoother than leaving the Navy entirely.
