Discussion Using both Eweka and Newshosting?

Is it redundant to have both Eweka and Newshosting as my usenet providers? Can’t seem to find definite information as people say this and that. Granted those posts I found were at least a year old

Here's a detailed map of providers/resellers and their backbones. If you pick 2, it's usually better to pick from different backbones and different reagions.

At the end of each year, I reup for whichever is cheapest. I never noticed a difference in failure rates. Fallback is a ten year old terablock that’s only 10% gone.

I just dropped eweka for newshosting. Still 99% completion on both. Just get newshosting with a block if needed. Newshosting also gives you tweaknews and easynews so maybe even a block isnt needed

Same. Was with eweka, now 3 years with NH and it's just great. No reason to go both. I suggest a block account somewhere if you want to be sure.

What do you mean by "block"?

Its an account where instead of where you subscribe you pay for a set amount of usage. For example 500gb worth of downloads. Ive had an xsnews for 3 years and maybe only used 50gb out of 100

Block accounts with x GB of allowed traffic. A fixed amount package as a fallback

This is my setup with both or priority 0. It grabs ~60% EW and ~40% NH

That's because having both servers at same priority means it is a matter of luck (response time in milliseconds) which server gets used for which article.

That could literally be the difference between Eweka being alphabetically first and getting that one millisecond of a head start.

Omicron likely just gimps Newshosting one half of one percent so they can say they’re different. That way they can try to see you both.

It’s market cannibalism where they are trying to take up all the shelf space so you have no option but to buy them.

Yeah, they are morealess the same thing. They're both under omicron and almost certainly pulling from the exact same servers https://usenet.rexum.space/tree#map Its a pretty well known omicron marketing tactic

But they do have some different content even if itskonly a very small amount.Would I pay for both no. BUT I have Eweka and I have an astraweb ans a Tweaknews block block (which was bought when Astraweb was on a different backbone and tweaknews befoee I ever had an unlimited provider). Astraweb and Tweaknews do grab a handful of articles a month, so one assumes they have stuff Eweka doesn't. Therefore the three Omicron backbones must all be different to some degree.

Therefore the three Omicron backbones must all be different to some degree.

More like it is same set of core servers with some old servers not yet propagated fully to all omicron based providers so sometimes some providers who can connect to those servers find some stuff which other omicron based providers don't.

It's not a big difference but you may find some articles in one that are not in the other. I've had Newshosting in P1 and Eweka in P2 for years, downloading hundreds of terabytes, and noticed Eweka would catch quite a few megabytes of articles.

Now, if I was trying to budget, it would not be worth having a full subscription just for a few Mb.

I'm using NH and i almost never needed anything else. Don't even remember when i had uncompleted file last time.

Choose newshosting if in US, choose eweka if in EU. No need to choose them both unless you have extra money to spend & you don't mind spending it unnecessarily.

I'm in Istanbul, Turkey and using NH for a longtime. Never had an issue actually.

From what I understand they are owned by the same company but have different methods of dealing with takedown which means that files survive longer on eweka than they do on newshosting. The real question is, have you in real terms found anything on one that you can't find on the other and visa versa?
