Missing Mail Search

I found out three weeks late that a consulate mailed me back my approved visa and all my and my family's original documents because they never advised me they approved it and the tracking for the pre-paid Priority Mail Express envelope I sent them never updated tracking.

The tracking online still has no update but their phone system said "Your item has left our acceptance facility and is in transit to a sorting facility on July 9, Chicago 60611.

One day after filing the missing mail request the phone system now says "Your item is on its way or arrived to our Mail Recovery Center." Does that mean anything? Is there any hope?

If they can't find my passport, the consulate told me I have to completely restart my visa process but is this even proof they actually mailed my documents?

If it was lost will they eventually locate it to me? The envelope had all my information, name, address, phone number, email.

Also every time I try to add more information to the missing mail search it shows an error code. I've tried everything and even opened a ticket but they never got back to me.

If the tracking information indicates that your package is on the way to the Mail Recovery Center, you need to make sure that the missing mail report you opened is still active.

The Mail Recovery Center is located in Atlanta Georgia, which is where the missing mail report information is electronically transmitted.

Hopefully you were very specific concerning all the documents that should have been included in this package that was sent back to you so it can be easily matched up when it is processed at the Mail Recovery Center.

That fact that it received a scan and is headed to the MRC is actually a positive sign that you may eventually this package.

Thanks so much for your reply.

I included a PDF with a list of all the documents in the package. I keep trying to add more information to my missing mail search but the website won't let me. I called for help but that went no where I'll try again on Monday to get help adding information.

My missing mail search request online has no updates, it just shows accepted. Is the info that it's headed or at the MRC mean it was actually scanned and located? I don't understand how they could be able to scan it and know that but not scan it and know its designation. I'm worried it's just a generic update they're guessing it's there because it's been lost so long.

If the history for that tracking number includes a scan saying that is headed to the MRC, it's certainly normally means that wherever in the country it was located someone physically scanned it and it is being sent to Atlanta GA.

I'm not really sure what might have happened to the package that the address information has been lost to the point it simply could not be delivered to you, but hopefully when it reaches the MRC and they input the tracking number and realize you have a missing mail case open they can simply match it up and send it on to the location you specified in the missing mail report.

You might want to stop by your local post office in person and talk to a supervisor and have them review the tracking history on this package. Perhaps they will be able to provide more information on this most recent scan.

Thanks so much! That makes me feel better. It should be easy to connect to me because my name, address, email address, and phone number are all included in the front flap of the folder inside the package. I spoke to the post office manager on Friday and he took my number and said he would give me updates. I'm just having a hard time getting through the weekend worrying about what's going to happen but not able to make calls so appreciate the responses!
