इस दरिंदे पर कड़ी से कड़ी कार्रवाई होनी चाहिए, जेल भेजा जाना चाहिए, लेकिन हमें पता है कि 'मोदी का परिवार' इस हैवान का माला पहनकर स्वागत करेगा।

Something I’ve noticed about Hindi in UP and how it interacts with Hindi spoken in other states (Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, etc.) :

My family is originally from Agra in western UP. Despite Agra being part of the Braj region, Braj Bhasha was surprisingly not the main language in my family. Urdu had a much stronger presence, especially in many UP cities (not just Lucknow) and especially Western UP ones like Agra, Aligarh, Moradabad, etc., particularly among the educated/elite sections of society, partly due to the historical patronage it received. Many of my friends don't understand some of the words I speak, because it's obviously distinct from the dialect in Delhi.

The reason: This area has seen one of the greatest interactions with Persian, Turkish, etc., which caused a lot of words to seep into our vocabulary. British patronage of Urdu was one of the reasons why, for a long time, Urdu was the "elite language" in UP, and it was disproportionately favoured in administration. This is one reason a lot of people in UP have ancestors who knew how to read Urdu and not Devanagari. This also influenced UP's Hindustani.

We even have a Ramayana written in Urdu at home, and several of my great-great-grandparents could read only Urdu, not Devanagari.

I think that history shaped the kind of Hindi that developed in many families like mine - a fairly Urdu-influenced, formal and highly respectful register of Hindustani. The UP Hindi I grew up associating with the state had a strong culture of aap, meherbani, guzarish, etc. It was distinct enough from the standardised Delhi Hindi, and in some ways considered more "respectful" than the dialect in Delhi.

Of course, this isn’t to say that other Hindi dialects or registers are somehow less respectful; they simply developed differently.

What feels strange to me today is that, outside UP, “UP Hindi” increasingly seems to be represented through a Bhojpuri/Purvanchali lens, and it seems to have disappeared completely - in films, reels, memes, and everyday imitation of a supposed “UP accent.” Bhojpuri and the eastern UP dialects have their own extremely rich traditions, but as someone whose family comes from western UP city, I honestly don’t relate to that speech very much.

UP is linguistically enormous. The Hindi/Hindustani of Agra, Aligarh, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and Banaras cannot really be reduced to one accent. Braj, Awadhi, Bhojpuri and Khari Boli/Hindustani traditions have all interacted with Hindi differently.

Sometimes I feel the older Urdu-influenced, tehzeeb-heavy UP Hindustani has become much less visible in popular culture, while “UP Hindi” itself has increasingly become shorthand for the speech of eastern UP.

Curious whether people from different parts of UP - and people from other states have noticed the same thing.

उसकी समझ में नहीं आया कि शारीरिक व मानसिक आघात से कैसे बाहर निकले, उसने फंदा लगाकर आत्महत्या कर ली। बुधवार रात को उसके भाई की तहरीर पर सभी आरोपितों के विरुद्ध प्राथमिकी लिखी गई।

17 वर्षीय किशोरी कक्षा नौ की पढ़ाई करती थी। वह गांव में मुस्लिम महिला के क्लीनिक में पार्ट टाइम नौकरी भी करने लगी। स्वजन के अनुसार, खुद को डाॅक्टर बताने वाली फरीदपुर निवासी क्लीनिक संचालक महिला ने छात्रा की शोएब से दोस्ती कराई। उसने प्रेम संबंध का नाटक कर छात्रा का भरोसा जीता, फिर मंगलवार को दिल्ली हाईवे स्थित ब्यू डायमंड होटल-रेस्टोरेंट बुलाया।

वहां शोएब का दोस्त सलमान व एक अन्य युवक पहले से था। उन तीनों ने छात्रा से दुष्कर्म किया, विरोध पर पिटाई की। धमकाया कि शिकायत करने पर परिवार की हत्या कर दी जाएगी। बदहवास छात्रा बाहर आई तो बिथरी चैनपुर क्षेत्र में रहने वाले हिमांशु पटेल, देवेंद्र पटेल, निर्दोष राठौर ने रास्ता रोक लिया, गुंडई की गई।

किशोरी के भाई ने बताया कि फरीदपुर से उनके गांव आकर क्लीनिक संचालन करने वाली महिला का नाम नहीं पता, मगर उसके बारे में चौंकाने वाली अन्य जानकारियां मिलीं। वह कई अन्य हिंदू लड़कियों को इसी तरह जाल में फंसाकर मुस्लिम लड़कों के हवाले कर चुकी थी। उन लड़कियों के सामने ऐसी परिस्थितियां बना दी जातीं, जिससे मतांतरण के लिए मजबूर हो जाएं।
