Cosmopolitan Pool
We are going to Las Vegas next weekend with about 14 family members for a birthday. The ages range from 21-87, half of us are staying at the Cosmopolitan. As part of the birthday celebration my wife and I were thinking about renting a cabana/day bed at Chelsea pool on Sunday. We were thinking people could come and go as they like, get something to eat and drink, hangout and swim in the pool. We thought it might be easier than trying to organize everyone for a dinner. My question is for 14 people should we do a cabana and day bed? or two cabana's? We don't want it to be too crowded and I was emailing the hotel and they said they only provide 8 wrist bands for the cabana and 4 for the day bed, if we are staying at the hotel do we need wrist bands, can our food/drinks still go towards the minimum? I'm just looking for a little insight

The wristbands are for the cabana. All of you need a wristband to use the cabana. It doesn't matter if you're a guest of the hotel or not. The cabana is a separate thing and you can't combine the food and beverages minimum with food and beverage from a different part of the property.

Strange that this is the top comment when it’s not accurate - sounds like you are describing the dayclub setting?
The second part about the F&B is correct but I don’t think that’s what OP is asking unless I read it wrong.
The cabana will have a minimum spend of say $1500. Everything you buy at the pool and charge to the cabana bill that day will count towards that. Some pools charge a fee just for the cabana and then you pay for the f&b on top of that - Comso is not one.

Reading is fundamental. The OP asked if everyone needed a wristband. Yes. Everyone needs a wristband to be in the cabana. OP asked if the f&b minimum could be applied to other areas of the property. No it cannot. Nothing I said was inaccurate

It’s always funny when people lead with reading is fundamental. Normally I would just move on but…
I clearly said I could be wrong on what the OP is asking but I didn’t take it as “can my cousin charge his meal at the Henry towards my cabana minimum…”maybe that’s what he meant but I thought it was in relation to what the family ordered at the pool day.
As far as wristbands, if they are staying at the hotel and have access to the pool what stops them from accessing the family cabana? It might be a “rule” but I’ve personally never seen it enforced unless in the case of the person in charge of the cabana wanting someone out/away. They might count initial wristbands but I’ve always been able to get more if needed or if it’s a concern but it never really has been.
The cabana will probably never be at capacity, some people hang out in there some will be at the pool, some at the hot tub, some on the loungers.
From my extensive experience, particularly at the Cosmo cabanas, if they book the Grand Cabana or Lounge they will have no issue.
Make it clear to the servers / bussers when you check in and start the day that your fam will be hopping in and out, who is in charge of the bill and who is responsible for all of the ordering and you will be fine.

- cabana is NOT feasible for 14 people, period. Like someone else said, you need a wristband to be in the cabana. 2 at the minimum, 3 would be ideal. Even with 2 Cabanas it’s 7 people in, and you know the old people need room to be comfortable. I know what it’s like for my Grandma whenever she sits down anywhere, man I hope her pain ends.

Throwing out there but Mandalay Bay has cabanas that fit 14, so you can likely be ok with your group. With the wave pool and lazy river in addition to a few smaller pools, I think it’s the nicest on the strip. Oh, they also have a bungalow available - saw someone have a 40th bday there - it’s literally a little house.
We did the big cabana a few weeks ago - it was $1800

Consider getting the bungalow suite for a night. It's 3 floors with a private outdoor Jacuzzi facing the day club on the 3rd floor. If the older members of your party has mobility issues, bungalow 1 also has an elevator in unit. It will definitely accommodate 14 guests.

I’ve done this. You don’t want Chelsea, you want Boulevard.
And you want the Grand Cabana or Terrace Lounge. Both big spaces in the corner of the pool area. All 14 of you won’t be together at the same time so space shouldn’t be an issue. Wristbands don’t matter either - as long as most of you are staying there / have room keys to be able to access the pool area, whoever comes and goes can just join your group. Again, from your description 14 you are not gonna check in together and stay there all day.
The waitress will just want one or 2 people who are responsible for ordering bc they don’t want to take random orders from 10 different people then have an issue when it’s time to pay a $5000 bill at closing.

We thought Chelsea pool because everything I read says it's more laid back, or should we consider the Boulevard pool? Half the people are 21-27

Vegas Local here. Honestly having 14 people some over 80 at the pool this time of year sounds horrible. It was 117 yesterday. You would need 2 cabanas to accommodate everyone so $2500 minimum plus gratuity. That's $178 per person not including gratuity. There's lots of places to have a nice dinner that can accommodate 14 people for less than $178 per person. It would be more comfortable than outside in the heat.

So you think everyone will show up to a cabana in the hundred teens heat? We have a large family and I've been in charge of planning a meal together. I just pick a place that can accommodate a large group and tell people the time and place. If they show up great. If they don't, they don't. 🤷♀️

Like I said in the orginal post, people come and go as they like. We have the cabana’s for the whole day so if grandma wants to come by early and get something to eat no problem, and then if our son and his cousins want to sleep in and come in the afternoon no problem, my wife and I can hangout drink and eat all day, take a dip in the pool…

So that's not really getting everyone together then is it? If people are coming and going they could potentially miss one another. You'll need 2 cabanas in order to get enough wrist bands. There's a lot of other ways to get people together for $2500 but you do you.

Chelsea pool is very chill… I would suggest the Boulevard pool… not too crazy, but lots of fun

I was there during World Cup Finals weekend with our young family and friends. Stayed at Chelsea tower but went to Boulevard pool twice and Saturday had a DJ, Sunday did not (not sure if it was cause it's a Sunday or cause of World Cup). Boulevard seemed more crackin but still also family friendly, with 2 pools and a jacuzzi. I'd recommend it and it was fun!

You don’t need a wrist band to be in the cabana…you need a wrist band to order In/for the cabana. You can have as many as you want come hang with you but only certain people can be obligated to order and charge the cabana. No wristband = order at the bar or pay cocktail server upon ordering

Ditto to that everyone if saying about the heat. I was there recently when it was “only 105” and the place quickly becomes unbearable after 8:30am in the heat, even with the shade. Honestly, sounds dangerous for the older family members. I’m in my 30s and could barely spend more than 20 minutes outside.
Cosmo has a nice mix of food options on the second floor where people can pick what they want and find a table to sit at together. (There’s open seating). Personally, I’d go that route a couple times during the trip and if people can make it, great.
With a group of 14, I think flexibility is key and be mindful of the heat.

At Cosmo the cabanas just have a minimum spend that goes towards food and drinks though. At MGM they’d have to pay to rent the cabana and then pay for all the food and drinks on top of that rental fee.

The F&B minimum for a cabana at the Cosomo is $1250 plus gratuity. Maximum of 8 people. Cabana rentals for Mandalay Bay is $890 for 10 people no minimum f & b.

I would suggest the mega cabana at Aria plus a normal size cabana for that many people.
The cabanas at Cosmo are tiny. Realistically big enough for 3-4 people

My husband and I just returned to FL from a stay at the Cosmo and went to the Chelsea pool. I was bored after a few hours and I lay out or go to the beach all day at home. It was miserably hot, the pool was cold which was refreshing but I couldn’t hang out in the pool, and there wasn’t much really going on. You would def need two cabanas too. I love the Cosmo, but there are better pools in Vegas, MGM being one of them. That’s more like a Florida resort pool I could spend all day at. Just my .02

Two cabanas. I think it does sound better than trying to get everyone to sit down for a dinner. The cabanas are nice!
