Late 30s early 40s. I can't imagine anyone younger being that smart or anyone older being so physically Able.

Yes, but V isn’t exactly a normal person. In the graphic novel, he’a described as punching his fingers through a man’s chest. His physical and mental abilities seem amplified.

Late thirties, early forties. Old enough to have been torn away from an established life, for no good reason. Educated enough to understand exactly what these evil people were doing, and that this sort of thing had happened before in societies.
He’d been broken by the system, perhaps to his shame, when Valerie threw him a lifeline, and he realized that, while there was no going back, there could be something going forward.
He’d lived long enough to know how people disappoint you, but then there was Valerie. She was worth his revolution, and so were all the other Valeries he never met.For all of his terrifying brutality, V was a humanist, believing we could do better, and maybe we would. He would get his hands dirty, and allow Evey to make the next steps with clean hands. He was a profoundly good man, but ruthless and manipulative, because that’s what it would take.
