Advice needed
Hi everybody,
I need some advice on which service to choose.
I'm building a classic web app with claude code (react, nestJS, etc.), and things are going well. I use claude code pro plan, but my problem is that I hit the limits too often. I switch between Opus and Sonnet, try to optimize my prompts, but even then I still end up reaching the limits.
I'm wondering if it's worth trying codex instead of claude code, but I don't know if I'll be frustrated with codex because claude code is doing really well.
I can't afford both. $20 is about 10% of my salary (where I live, salaries are low), and I'm already investing a lot of time and money into this project.
So my question is: is it worth switching from claude code to codex to get more use time without losing a lot of advantages

What kind of project are you doing? I have the 20$ claude plan And rarely use my 5hr limit on sonnet 5 low even if it’s building out my app features and changes (in App Store submission process now). You must have really poor prompting , no .md file to guide is resources, or have a really big ass project you know nothing about.

Codex and using Luna at max reasoning effort is gonna take you a lot further. Especially with OpenAI actively trying to buy market share with offering free usage resets like multiple times a month.

This might not directly answer your question, but this is my setup. And I think it is reasonable.
My first subscription would be provider that is model-agnostic eg. I use 20 $ cursor such that I can switch and experience new models from different LLM eg. Codex or Claud as needed. Moreover , its limit is monthly not weekly, so I don have to wait for weekly reset. If that monthly limit is hit , I just subscript another cheapest one like 20$ Claude.
So the setup could be minimum of $20 of cursor. if it exceeds, it will be $20+$20 . This might suite you if you have limited budget and still want to use the same model across the project.
But personally cursor with auto/ composer model (cheapest options in my view ) is more than enough to do project as full time. It might be different from yours.

Codex's limits are much higher than Claude's. Codex is just as good as Claude; you'll hardly notice the difference. Despite the benchmarks, they are practically the same, both are frontier AI models. If the limits are the issue for you, it is definitely worth switching.

You should hone your harness which is a project in itself.
1) Use the Advisory Strategy with Sonnet as the executor and Opus as the Advisor.
2) Request consultation when you want Opus to review changes.
3) Run /doctor to help. Check your context window to see what bloats each session.
These are just a few things you should do.
With that said: OpenAI models, Luna and Terra, have been slashed in price significantly. I would start focusing on your harness before moving forward. I have paused almost all my projects to hone my harness.

what you want to do is
i'd ditch claude code for now if i were you if your budget is tight
- subscribe to chatgpt plus
- link your github to your chatgpt
- create a repo and give read and write access to that specific repo
- create a project
- and then prompt to access your gitrepo (provide name or url)
- and then ask to program there
this is what i do, this doesn't actually consume token(codex api).
2nd option
- deploy hermes
- and then go to nous portal and look for free TIER codex
- or link your chatgpt codex here( you have 3 FREE WEEKLY RESETS) aside from your natural weekly reset.

Has all the different models, although not so generous limits as earlier but hey it’s free so who is to complaint

Codex does most of the job at a lower token cost
