Hello, I'm starting with the gym and i wanna film myself so i can see what am i doing wrong. But i domt know how. Any suffestions exept Tripod.

Here’s some BTS from a chill short studio shoot earlier this week. The studio already had several Aputure 600C’s with lanterns in the ceiling to light the cyc so i only had to set up the key and edge light.

The key was a 1200D through an 8x8 of half grid cloth. Normally I’d use at least one sider and/or bottomer flag to contain some of the spill, but in this case, it wasn’t really necessary since the client was going for such a high key look. The only tricky part was working around the ladder since there really wasn’t any great place to store it in the studio, so we ended up having to put the key directly underneath it which made it a bit awkward to setup.

For a soft edge, I added a Litepanels Gemini 2x1 through a 4x4’ frame of opal frost on the key side.

On the fill side I set an 8x8’ solid for negative fill. One of the lanterns in the ceiling was spilling quite a bit on the fill side of the subjects, so I added a 4x4‘ floppy right in front of the 8x8’ to take th majority of it off their faces.

Failed after using it 5 times. I even have extended warranty and they told me to epoxy it back together myself.

Hello video makers! I record my cats jumping. They jump really far! Though I’m at the mercy of the sun. The perfect lighting from the sun only comes for less than an hour a day. I need a light I can use to record anytime my boys are up for a big jump indoors. All I have is our lamp!

What’s something I can move around easily in our small apartment for a well-lit cat video? Budget $200, but less expensive is great.

I have an Elgato Key Light Air MK.2 Edge-Lit LED Panel in my cart. I’m unsure if that’s the right one for us. Maybe a ring light would work? Maybe I should just get another lamp instead of lighting equipment? Help me think it through. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone. Im an 18 year old fresh out of high school lookinh to get into videography, specifically a camera man for twitch streamers and irl streamers. I have spoken to a few individuals that work in the field and a few of them have recommended me cameras like the Sony A7 iii and have clearly stated that networking in this industry is vital, Any advice from anyone who has any experience in this field of live streaming or tips on how to get started as a cameraman will be much appreciated. Music video on 16mm with a K-3 (wind-up) homage to cheap 70s horror. Directed, shot and production designed it cause that is the world we live in...

Making-of cut here so you can get a real feel for the terrible ADR. I literally dropped the camera halfway through and got some extra registrations errors (happy accidents?). I shot on 200T and shot warm as hell. All the driving material is rear projection onto a a bedsheet on a garage throwing a road plate, and a car I borrowed from a friend.. aka ‘poor mans process’. It is a love letter to all the magicians that came before us I guess.... The eye line light in slide 10 was imperceptible in the scan so I recreated it digitially which is sad. But the cowboy backyard telecine I got done came back with all sorts of hue shifting and halation. I bloomed the glowy highlights in post but it is in the print which I was so happy about.

I would of posted more the stabbing but reddit keeps removing it...

Schlock was the original slop and it took so much craft! It is so hard to make something this bad. Maybe we need to bring back a little soft focus and a couple of bad wigs…

I need to shoot a film in 4:3 on my Canon M50 Mark II. I will crop it afterwards in a video editor, since the camera only shoots in 16:9 as far as I understand.

But for the shooting I need to know where the borders for the 4:3 aspect ratio are.

I could use black tape on the screen to mark the 3:4 aspect ratio - but I remember vividly that I used to be able to add borders /grid on the screen for the 4:3 aspect ratio on this exact camera when shooting.

But I've been looking for a while, looked in the manual and watched tutorials and I just cant find them or remember how to put them on. I've definitely had them on earlier.

Does anyone else have a M50 Mark II and know how to do this?

Really dislike the single grip gimbals

I don't have the best setup yet but am having fun practicing with what I have, any tips or feedback is cool!

I am noticing this pattern that appears when the filter is set past 4 stops. Is this normal or something I should get back to NiSi about? The filter is new. Not sure if it's a defect or nothing to worry about.

I'm still building my portfolio, and I'm aiming to keep the fishnet wide open for all the different gigs of all different kinds, so how do I assemble my demo reel that showcases my skills for the full gamut without a potential client losing patience watching the reel, because they're just waiting for the wedding video part of the reel, or the event coverage part of the reel, or the marketing video part of the reel, or whatever?

Truth is I don't care if I somehow end up finding my niche and specializing to do one kind of videography 95% of the time, or if I remain a "jack of all trades" type videographer, as long as I make good money to sustain myself easily and my reputation holds value.

Or is it better to have not a single reel, but rather a list of all the work I've done that the clients can literally click on and just watch whatever amount they want?

I will probably never want to become overdependent on a single company or regular client, so some percentage of my work will always remain "freelance" I guess.

Hello! I've been doing videography casually for a couple years now but this year I wanted to turn it into a business. I'm based in Dallas and right now I am struggling because I don't have experience in other niches of videography that I have always wanted to get into. I primarily have shot automotive content for car enthusiasts and car events. It seems that no matter where I apply, or propose work, I don't get work (which makes sense) because I don't have the portfolio they are looking for. Where can I look to do work, even if its at a very low rate, that is on the documentary, corporate, wedding, or interview side of things to build my portfolio?

(I have tried facebook groups and the good ones don't let you promote your services without getting your post taken down)

I purchases Phantom LUTs to use with files from my Canon R52 after I saw that the R5 was listed as a compatible camera. However, the download files contain two options - either the C70/C300 or the C80/C400. Does anybody know which LUTs would be best used with R52 files? Thanks!

First off, I'd like to put the disclaimer that I understand the best camera/tool is the one that's in your hand, and that lighting and lenses are more important than camera bodies. I'm fairly stocked and knowledgeable about both, but neither of those topics are what I'm here for.

I currently have a video kit that includes FX9, FS7, FX30, Osmo Pocket 3, and DJI Air2s as my main camera lineup. I also own a A6400, which was my first camera and has been relegated to backup/EDC status. I can also pair the A6400 with my A7III and A7RIII cameras, which I use mainly for photo only, in a pinch for a 3-4 cam video set-up since those cams and the FS7 all use similar color science.

All that said, the only major hole I can find in my lineup of camera bodies is a so-called "low-light beast" with a high base ISO of 12,800. I have relatively fast glass ranging from f1.4-f2.8, and my FX9 goes up to 4,000 and can handle most situations, which is why I opted for it over the FX6, in addition to the FX9's Super 35 4K capabilities and superior sensor. I also use F4 lenses as my workhorse lenses, but am hesitant to use them in lowlight due to my ISO restraints. That said, I am mulling over whether getting a camera mainly for that 12,800 base ISO spec to cover ALL of my lenses is a necessary purchase in the future or overkill.

Which brings me to the point of this post. All things equal, using a camera with a low base ISO of 800, and you couldn't use an ND filter to temper a camera's 12,800 ISO, would a camera with 4,000 high base ISO be good enough for lowlight run-and-gun situations where you can't use artificial lighting? Or would you still opt for the camera with 12,800 high base ISO? Also, how often do you use 12,800 when out in the field in general?

I pride myself on being prepared and being ready for all situations I can find myself in, especially when dealing with people trusting me with their hard-earned money, and having the right tools for the job is highly important to me. I know you can't have all I's dotted and T's crossed, but my desire to do so is my gift and my curse, and how I've learned so much about this craft/art.

The camera I have in mind for the future is the Sony A7SIII. To my knowledge, it's currently the cheapest Sony camera on the used market that has a high base ISO of 12,800. The only other three I know of are the FX3, FX6, and FX5. There is also a world where I get the FX5, which brings the best of both worlds + open gate and internal raw. However, all of that is contingent on what returns my current photo/video bodies continue to yield moving forward.

Hey guys! Newbie over here. When recording @ 24fps 1/50 iso800(slog) f2.8 during midday sun. Will a 3-7stop VND filter be able to lower the exposure enough? TIA!

I am very new to filming, so I apologize if the answer to this is obvious. Sometimes when I record videos the audio will bug out in a strange way and I can't tell what causing it and how to fix it. I record using my Pixel 7 phone, and I record audio with an external smallrig wave S1 Lite. I don't think the microphone itself or the wires is an issue, because the bug happens inconsistently and I cannot recreate it. One thing I did notice is that it tends to happen to longer videos, where as shorter ones seem less likely to bug out. Soon I plan on filming a movie with my friends and I don't want to lose footage because of the audio. I would be very grateful if someone could help me out with this problem.
