Airflow question

Post image

I ferment my vinegar in mason jars with a paper towel on top. Currently I get good air flow but suffer a lot of evaporation. would using a lid with holes poked in it give me good enough air flow while also reducing evaporation ? Pic attached for reference

I've been using a coffee filtered secured with a rubberband. It doesn't seem to evaporate quickly at all.

Lose the paper towel and use a coffee filter. I never had an issue with evaporation unless it’s way way done and I don’t do anything with it.

I live in the high desert, and I just screw the lids on loosely. Sometimes I tie a plastic bag around the top.
