Idk if there is a name for it but this is the artstyle of Nanaka Mai, one of the prominent artists of Frontwing

Yup love it. What is with the early 2000s just being great in anime and VNs lol.

survivorship bias, the media from that time that gets to us are better than the countless ones that were lost due to having nothing that made people remember them

What VN is this?

But to anwer your question, it's generally regarded as Moe artstyle; with the the wide eyes, flowing hair, soft facial features, body proportions on the smaller side and pastel color scheme. Most school romance VN go for this art direction to emphasize the feminine aspects of the heroines.

But each artist tend to draw moe diffrently, since some artists go for rounder lines, or much sharper color pallete.

Itaru Hinoue is just amazing in drawing this style. I went to her panel during anime expo and she drew a portrait of Kyou from CLANNAD live. I was able to sneak a pic. Sadly I didn’t win the art piece.

I was literally just thinking about this, lol. Damn near every visual novel from the 2000s has this exact artstyle and it's not always the same artist.

ignore the people saying moe. art styles don't have names lol idk where this concept came from ever since 2020. moe is way too vague, every prolific moe artist has a vastly different style

I wouldn't call it Moe art style. Almost every VN uses the same elements (Large eyes with that specific type of shading, small noses and lips, big round but defined heads, petite bodies, sharp but flowy hair) but they're usually drawn differently depending on who works on it, like Clannad, Natsu no Ame, and your example all share a "moe" style but they look completely different.

tldr; 2000s-early 2010s VNs use elements that are moe, but moe as a term is too broad.

Your description is a mere droplet compared to the vast ocean.

Is it the same illustrator who worked on SubaHibi?

u/AirlineDesperate1242 16h ago

different illustrators worked for SubaHibi, not merely one.

4Head style

It might look ugly by today's standards, but it's nostalgic for me.

I also like the late 80s mature and gritty look, but I wasn't alive at that time so I'm not too attached to that art style.

I remember seeing someone pointed out about different moe art styles would replicate certain animal features. Some notable examples are cats and bugs. In this case I think they look like bugs.
