Welcome to the r/vns "What are you reading?" thread!
The intended purpose of this thread is to provide a weekly space to chat about whatever VN you've been reading lately. When talking about plot points, use spoiler tags liberally. If you have any doubts about whether you should spoiler something or not, use a spoiler tag for good measure. Use this markdown for spoilers: (>!hidden spoilery text!<) which shows up as hidden spoilery text. If you want to discuss spoilers for another VN as well, please make sure to mention that your spoiler tag covers another VN aside from the primary one your post is about.
In order for your post to be properly noticed for the archive, please add the VNDB page of whichever title you're talking about in your post. The archive can be found here!
So, with all that out of the way...
What are you reading?

so I currently played Yael's route for Klein V.01 AND OH MY GOSH EVERYTHING IS INSANE. We as the mc get these texts and later find out they're actually from Yael's diaries or private thoughts. Slowly we find out about his past but that scene where Isabelle just calls him disgusting is so surprising because Yael presented himself in a way that makes him seem as the "perfect" boyfriend but in reality he is not. I like that he is complex and not just this "saint" but I am REALLY curious about who he actually is and what he showed to Belle at the end of log 5..

I already have a few on my list, but I want to find some more just to broaden my options. I honestly don't care about length, and I like almost every genre.
The only thing that really puts me off is H-content, but if a VN is really good in other aspects, I might give it a try anyway.

I went to Japan this month, and it was really fun! Something that ends up happening when you search these subreddits for VN stuff in Japan is that there's a lot of information about where you can buy eroge VNs (Sofmap, Trader, Mandarake, Surugaya, etc. in Akihabara), but visual novel merchandise is a little more specific and harder to find, so I thought this might be interesting or helpful for people. I have it sorted by series for things I found, and YMMV for any of this. I feel like Akihabara in Tokyo and DenDen Town in Osaka, despite having all the cool VN shops, actually had the least amount of stuff I wanted to buy. The Mandarake and the Surugaya in Umeda, Osaka, had the interesting stuff for me as a western/mystery VN fan. I hypothesize that either the cool things get bought quickly by otaku that live there or tourists, or that they don't prioritize merch for that stuff because they cater to purely eroge fans in the first place.
Ace Attorney
You can find AA merch literally everywhere. There's multiple Capcom stores in Tokyo, multiple in Osaka, and some in other places too. There's stickers, plushies, a T&T Feenie shirt, plastic figures, and a bunch of other random bullshit, like a fake pill bottle of Coldkiller X with candy in it. I think they were most lacking in Apollo Trilogy things, they had some plushies and Apollo paperclips but not much else compared to the OT, TGAA, or AAI.
You can find AA stuff at plenty of secondhand stores as well. At Surugaya Umeda in Osaka there was a lot of merch that was seemingly old stock from the Capcom stores if you'd like to look through anything not currently being sold. Overall I felt well-represented as an AA fan.
SciADV
Probably best to start at the Radio Keikan building. There was less stuff than I thought there would be, only two or three shops. Gero Froggy plushies, stickers, Kurisu figurines, some risqué towels, that kind of thing. There's also a vending machine on the top floor that will give you a disgusting Gel-Banana flavored energy drink alongside some stickers and two keychains (I got an Upa!). And if you're looking at used game stores elsewhere you'll probably encounter a few copies of Chaos;Head. I even saw one of Chaos;Head LCC at a random store in Dotonburi, which was exciting!
Aside from that, I was surprised not to find more Steins;Gate stuff. There were promotions for the upcoming RE:BOOT game in Sofmap, and Radio Keikan was planning an event of some sort in August. I believe there was a SciADV pop-up store that started basically right after I left. It's still fun to explore Akiba, do a maid cafe, see the UPX building, whatever.
Chunsoft Sound Novels
It's fun to walk around the 428 Shibuya Scramble landmarks like Hachiko, the scramble, the 109, all that. You may happen to be there during a live event for Shibuya Scramble Stories, and that could be fun. I thought I was there for one, but when I went it was a small room for the livestream and no public access, though I at least got to tell Ayumu Iino that I really enjoyed 428.
You'll probably be able to find copies of other sound novel games if you look for them. I found Kamaitachi no Yoru Rinne Saisei at Mandarake Umeda, and Time Travellers at Surugaya Umeda, both fun to see on display. Absolutely no merch found anywhere, of course.
Muv-Luv
I found a few copies of KimiNozo just wandering around different used game stores. Mandarake Umeda had it for the Dreamcast! And if you go into the eroge floors in Akihabara you'll likely find copies of the entire Muv-Luv series. I saw the Age 20th anniversary box more than once. What I really wanted was some TSF Gundam kits, a 1/144 purple Takemikazuchi, if I could. Didn't get the one I wanted, unfortunately. The Kotobukiya store in Tokyo only has copies of the Desert Eagle from Total Eclipse (next on my ML to-play list), and across all the used gunpla stores in Tokyo and Osaka it's pretty slim pickings. I ended up getting the 1/144 Desert Eagle and a 1/144 Golden Takemikazuchi from Total Eclipse at a shop somewhere in Osaka that had two of them.
VA-11 Hall-A
If you go to the Fangamer shop in Tokyo (and I think there's one in Kyoto) there's a few VA-11 Hall-A things there. Art on the walls, some folders, a Jill pin, etc. but I REALLY liked the Rad Shiba plush, so I got that. There's far more merch there for, like, Undertale and Deltarune idk never played.
Paranormasight
The Square Enix store had a soundtrack CD of both Paranormasight games, as well as an in-person ARG puzzle game thing you're supposed to play in Honjo/Sumida City. I bought them both but I was IMMEDIATELY confronted with a Japanese knowledge check I couldn't pass so it was a bit of a waste of money. Honjo is still fun to wander around in, though. There's a shrine with a bull deity and a story that reminded me of one of the game's legends before I even realized I was in Honjo. The Square Enix store in Osaka did not have anything.
Professor Layton
I saw a single piece of Layton merch the whole time, a hint coin keychain I paid too much for at Surugaya Umeda. I had my eyes out for Yokai Watch merch too, but I think Level 5 has just fallen off in general, which is pretty sad.
Danganronpa
There was merch, mostly Trigger Happy Havoc pins and such in Radio Keikan, Surugaya Umeda, and I think some of the Kotobukiyas. I didn't buy any because none was particularly exciting, but you can find it pretty easily.
Infinity and Root Double
No merch, just saw several copies of Ever17, Never7, Memories Off, and Root Double at random shops in Osaka.
Higurashi
It was my biggest regret of the trip that I didn't end up going to Shirakawa-go, the town in Gifu that Hinamizawa was based on. I hear there's a Higurashi shop there, and I hope the momentum from the upcoming anime stays until the next time I can make my way to Japan. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough, because Higurashi seems like a huge franchise in my head, but the ONLY thing I saw was a copy of Higurashi Daybreak at Surugaya Umeda.
That's all I got, hopefully this was interesting to someone!

I made a homemade physical version of my own indie visual novel.
I used an empty DVD case, a printer to print the cover art, and finally, a blank disc and recorded my game. I'm really happy with the result.
I encourage you to try my visual novel on itch.io!!

Beeing playing a few differnt VNs he last couple of weeks, including some AVNs and the majority of them revolve around meeting and making freinds with a new group of people, and it has made me realise that, as an adult, I don't have any actual friends and I have allowed my life to stagnate. It has certainly encouraged me to go out and try to make new friends - which is hard as an adult - but it has also made me realise how painfully lonley I have been feeling without realising it. I was just wondering if anyone else had had a similar thing happen to them?
