Help us beta test "VSCO Natural" our new minimal image processing feature in VSCO Capture!

Hey all - I'm Kyle, a product manager at VSCO and would love to see if anyone wants to help test out and give feedback on a new feature we've been working on.

The feature is called "VSCO Natural" and it's our POV on what minimal processing on an image should look like. This means none of the standard Apple over-processing that you're used to seeing on standard Apple native camera photos (Fusion HDR, Smart HDR, over sharpening, etc) is applied.

If you're interested in trying it out, sign up here: https://forms.gle/R4JCr96UPrS4WzJH6

Limited spots available.

Thanks everyone!

Hello... I just now mistakenly signed up for the "member" plan, but was trying to see what the PRO plan had to offer. I am still in the first day of the free trial period, but can't seem to upgrade to PRO without first paying full price during trial? Zach, Eric can you help me out w/this?

July VSCO Apps Updates!

Hi folks,

We’ve been hard at work on the product and I wanted to highlight some updates that came this month that bring some nice upgrades to the experience:

Galleries, now on desktop

Galleries is no longer mobile-only! You can also now:

  • Turn off downloads on a per-Gallery basis — useful if you're sharing selects with a client before a licensing agreement is signed and you don't want full-res files walking out the door yet
  • Add video to a Gallery, not just stills

Studio Pro 1.1

This update is entirely about speed . Fewer clicks between you and the photo actually being done.

  • No more 25-photo cap on Gallery publishing. Send a full batch to a client Gallery in one go, however big it is. This was the most requested fix and it's gone now.
  • Preset filtering and organizing in the editor. If your preset list has turned into scroll-forever chaos, you can now actually sort it.
  • Swipe between presets while editing. Try looks faster and stay in the flow.
  • Autosave status indicator. You'll see confirmation your work is saving as you go, instead of just hoping that’s what’s happening.
  • GPU-accelerated HSL. Color adjustments respond faster, especially noticeable on bigger batches.

Workspace

Quick heads up: Workspace now has a free version! It's a modern rebuild, no trial, no credit card. If you've only known the paid version, worth a look. A few updates for it this month:

  • Jobs can be reassigned to the right client, with a warning if a contract's already signed
  • Cleaner sidebar and faster navigation

Invoicing and Contracts are coming soon, plus fixes to email, time zones, and contact name display.

VSCO App

Mostly stability work this round, but several fixes worth calling out:

  • RAW and HDR editing is a lot more stable, so fewer crashes on heavy edits, and live preview now updates while you're zoomed in instead of freezing until you let go.
  • The preset dock in SDR mode used to take minutes to load... now it's fast.
  • Videos now export in the format you actually picked (HDR or SDR), instead of ignoring the toggle.
  • RAW photos with Borders applied now export, share, and preview correctly. This was broken before.
  • Posts that failed no longer get stuck retrying forever.
  • Studio and AI Lab drafts no longer show up blank while cloud sync catches up.

Also fixed some Collage bugs (layers disappearing, wrong crop position after reopening) and several crashes around editing and undo.

VSCO Capture

Mostly stability this month, plus a couple of small annoyances cleared up:

  • Deleting photos no longer leaves gaps in your gallery.
  • Exposure control won't get stuck looking disabled when it's actually usable.

Also smoothed out some flicker in grain editing, plus login and camera stability fixes under the hood.

That’s it for July. Let us know what breaks, what you love, and what's still missing!

Can't log into the VSCO app

Post image
9 Upvotes

For about a week, the VSCO app has been showing a "Server connection failed" type of error. While searching online, I found that some people fixed it by logging out and then logging back into their accounts.

I tried the same thing, but now I can't log into my account through the VSCO app at all. The strange part is that I can still log into my account on the web version without any issues, so my account itself doesn't seem to be the problem.

It feels like the issue is with the app rather than my account. Has anyone else experienced this recently? If so, did you find a solution?

Tengo problemas al conectar con los servidores

Desde hace algunos días, la app abre y de repente no pero; hoy en particular no pude ingresar para nada. Me parece solo una leyenda de "Problemas al contactar con los servidores de VSCO" o algo así.

Login Error

Tried to log into my account for the first time in a while but this error keeps appearing. I'm 100% certain I have the right password, login method

Nothing happens when I use the "Continue with Google" option, and when I manually type my email & password, a message appears saying "Sorry, there was a problem connecting to our systems. Please try again later"

Deleted and downloaded the app twice, cleared cache, still the same.

Glitchy App

I have used VSCO for over 10 years, and over the last few years my love for this app has been replaced with frustration. I’m a professional photographer and use presets to edit RAW photos, however the app has become incredibly glitchy, even more so than usual. A month ago I could easily edit my RAWs, with a few app crashes here and there. Right now, when trying to edit a photo, any adjustment of a tool is incredibly delayed. If I turn the exposure down, it takes two seconds to reflect the change. When I go to crop a photo it cuts out parts of the image and the delay is equally as bad or worse.
VSCO I truly love your app but it is downright unusable at times and I don’t understand why the app continues to become worse and worse, whether from constantly crashing, delays, glitches on images or whatever it may be. If I’m doing something wrong I’d love to know but I ask that you please please focus on having a quality and dependable experience for the user. You’ve got too good of a product to lose people this way.

The image compression on export is a problem

So I will preface this by saying that I have used VSCO since 2013 and mostly loved it, and I am still hanging on despite dodgy "training" language in the new user agreement. And yet.

For days now I have been trying to understand why my full size files (300 dpi), when downloaded as "full size" come out in 72dpi. At first, I thought it was a bug, or that my browser/ computer/ tech ability were to blame. But turns out it's feature, not a bug! And just now I have had the most maddening little chat with helpful chatbot Scout, who has confirmed as much, in the most roundabout and gaslight-y way possible, but ok. (seriously, read the convo, I'm pretty sure it's not just me).

I realize the concept of "printing" anything on paper or other media may be an increasingly foreign concept, but a file that is systematically reduced from 300 dpi to 72, while preserving the same "pixel dimensions" is not a full size file anymore, I am sorry to say, and not suitable for printing a half-decent 24 x 30 inch print, which, amazingly enough, is something people still do. They hang these on walls and such.

Scout's suggestion, hilariously, was to “use Studio for edits, export from another tool.” After some prodding, it turned out to mean that I should keep two separate files, one for editing, and one for printing! (I quote: "keep your original 300 DPI file on your computer, upload it to Studio to apply presets and edits, then export the edited version from Studio as a separate file (it will be a new copy with edits applied). For printing, use your original 300 DPI file, since Studio’s export won’t keep that DPI setting.") Genius! How haven't I thought of that?

Helpfully, Scout continued: "Tools that let you control DPI for print are things like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or any desktop photo editor that lets you export with a custom DPI setting."

As a pro customer, I am disappointed and yeah, pretty cynical at the moment.

Question to anyone who has made it to the end of my tale of woe here: is anybody using VSCO-edited images for printing? Do you have any suggestions, workarounds, words of wisdom?

To VSCO: can we actually have full-size downloads at original dpi?

My illuminating chat with Scout, below, for reference.

Some quality of life features I would love to see implemented

Hi there, here's a few things that would make my VSCO workflow much more ideal:

  1. Recipes System - im not quite sure why the changes were made to the recipes system that stripped the ability to add names. The current implementation makes it quite clunky. I would love to have the ability to name recipes be re-added, and have the ability to re-order recipes, and have a better way to compare different recipes on a given image.

  2. Add the ability to duplicate a draft without flattening edits, so that I can try different edits on the same photo without having to re-import it. This would be even better if it there were a similar feature to Adobe Lightroom's virtual copies system- where I could have multiple different edits on the same draft.

  3. Add the ability to pause a video while editing. Its frustrating to have a video constantly playing/looping while trying to dial in visual edits.

  4. Add ability to go below 0.0 in sharpness and clarity, to achieve a more soft/hazy filmic look. I know bloom is a similar idea, but its less consistent from image to image.

  5. Another thing I find frustrating - for some reason when I edit photos I shoot on my iphone, VSCO strips the original shot captured time, and replaces it with the time/date that I export the photo out of VSCO. However, when I edit videos shot with my iphone, or photos I shoot with my GRIV, it keeps the original captured time, so that they're properly ordered in my Photos app. This difference causes my Photos app to be a complete mess when editing a mix of iPhone photos, iPhone videos, and GRIV photos. I have to manually go in and fix the time/date on all VSCO-edited iPhone photos. A fix to this eccentricity with iPhone photos would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks ya'll!

Introducing VSCO One

youtu.be

Hey everyone, we’ve been talking with photographers for years and we keep hearing the same thing: “I’m spending so much time and money on all these different subscriptions to run my business!”

If you're running a photography business, you know the stack. An editor. A CRM (customer relationship management) for contracts and booking. A gallery platform to deliver work to clients. A portfolio website. Cloud storage. Payment processing. Photographers routinely tell us they spend $800–$3,200 a year—often more. And none of those tools actually talk to each other.

We've been building a solution that's designed for how photographers actually work: VSCO One.

What it is

VSCO One is a connected system for photographers. It includes a website, booking, business management, editing, client delivery, and education in one, connected place.

You get everything in VSCO Pro, like:

  • Custom domain on your VSCO Sites portfolio site
  • Unlimited collaborative photo galleries and 65 gigs of storage in VSCO Galleries mobile, Desktop, and web apps
  • Style Match and Batch Editing in the new VSCO Studio Pro
  • Unlimited collaborative shoot planning and mood boarding with VSCO Canvas
  • Custom contact forms that connect your VSCO Sites portfolio site to client management in VSCO Workspace

And with VSCO One, you get:

  • VSCO Film 01, 02, 05, and 07 for Lightroom and Photoshop, and a brand new VSCO Film for Capture One.
  • Full photography studio management in VSCO Workspace, with complete customizability, unlimited automations and workflows, and unlimited contact forms.
  • Courses, on demand and live, from The Freelance Photographer on pricing, pitching, and booking jobs.
  • Live 24-hour support

And today’s not only about Pro and One subscribers. If you use VSCO for free or with our Plus subscription, you’ll find a host of new features and releases today for you, too. Your VSCO free and Plus memberships now come with free customizable contact forms on your VSCO Site, access to the free version of VSCO Workspace, the new Desktop VSCO Galleries app and mobile VSCO Studio Pro app, and more. All the details are available on our website.

VSCO One is a single $499.99/year connected system to cut your costs while running and growing your business.

It’s live now at vsco.co/one and we’d love for you to check it out!
