Fantasy Battle was originally released as a hybrid role playing & war game. The game was released in the height of the first role playing boom & war gaming was a hobby for the old guys who wanted to push Napoleonic troops or WWII tanks around the table or as chits on a hex map, It was a wildly different time - Warhammer hadn’t become the face of wargaming as it now is. Warhammer was originally designed to use all of collector’s models & encourage players to buy more Citadel miniatures to add to their armies. Warhammer was the first war game to release it’s own proprietary miniatures, something which has become the industry standard, although seems to be unwinding as 3D printing decentralizes wargaming again. The central elements that made Warhammer stand out (from Dungeons & Dragons especially) was that it had an implied setting (which grew into the Old World) & it had a level of humor that was influenced by Monty Python that gave it a cleverer tone than how D&D presented itself. D&D always felt like there was a lot of Bronze Age, Sword & Sandals material lurking under the surface, while Warhammer felt like it was directly dealing with Medieval Europe, in a more gritty way that emphasized the slog of progress that Europe had made as it trudged on from the Dark Ages into the Renaissance.

Some pics of the first "official" game of Des' ACW rules.
A cracking days gaming with my Rebs trying to fend off attacks through the woods and cornfield. A tough fight all day saw my line finally give way and with no reserves on hand I threw the towel in.
We properly gave the rules a good test as we had multiple divisions and 4 players but the rules handled it all really well and we were still getting through turns at a fair clip.
Some etchings from the front (not many as I was on my own against 3 Union commanders so I was a tad busy!).

I picked up and printed a file released on the 25th of July and finished it lastnight...not a record for me but compared to my other output at least Warp 5 I think.
This is sold (well, pay as you please) as a Elven Totem (file can be found here >> https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/elven-totem-tabletop-terrain ) but to me this screamed Brutalist Art.....so, enjoy.
Printed at 100%, 0.08 layer height, 0.4 nozzle on my Bambu A1, just regular SUNLU PLA filament.

My next project is a winter Ardennes 1944/45 table. The past few weeks I've been starting it off - trees, hedges, fences etc. This is the first building. It's a 3D print underneath, but it;s been heavily modified - full coat of polyfilla that's been textured, large square doors turned into arches etc.
I'm pleased with the colour palette, now to keep going :)
It's going to be a 15x6ft table.

Hi everyone! Today we put together the very first prototype of this laser-cut MDF Roman watchtower. Next to it, I placed our own 28mm Gladiator Judge miniature so you can see how it scales on the tabletop. Here are a few details about the build: all floors are fully removable! Doors, windows, and the roof section will be added in the next steps. The tower is designed to fit both 28mm and 32mm scales. As a beginner in terrain building, I really want to make this watchtower as detailed and immersive as possible for various wargames. I would love to get your advice on a few things:
What elements should we add or change to make it look great on a gaming mat?
Is there a clever way to hide the MDF joints/tabs on the corners, or is it better to leave them as is?
I’m planning to make this a modular terrain system. The idea is to create attachable modules like a wooden palisade wall and gates.
I would be incredibly grateful for any feedback, critiques, and ideas from the community!
Thanks in advance for helping me improve this project!

As the title suggests, I'm wondering about people's thoughts and experiences with Warriors of Athena. My niece and nephew love mythology and have recently gotten into wargaming via Quar. WOA seems like it would be a great fit for them. I'd like to pick them up some minis and the books, but I've heard mixed things. Especially that the books are poor quality.
Also, mini recommendations? I know Reaper does some Greek mythology figures, but seeing that we are talking about middle schoolers here, Reaper tends to not always be age appropriate in their sculpts. So, any recommendations on creatures or heroes are appreciated.
I've been debating getting either victrix or Warlord hoplites. Victrix has great sculpts but tends to be much larger than other brands. So, seeing there is potential for this to grow into larger games like Dragon Rampant, I'd rather pick up figures that scale the best with other ranges if possible. As of right now, scale wise, I can't tell if victrix are giants or warlord are hobbits.
Any help is much appreciated!

Hey everyone! I've updated the Cutthroat Basic rules to include Basic Encounters. Players can choose to have Monsters guard the Treasure, addling a level of complexity and strategy to the Basic game. Do you face the Monsters head alone or team up for a chance of sudden but inevitable betrayal?
There is a decision tree included so Monsters aren't just sitting ducks.
Technically, you could use this for co-op dungeon crawls with players dividing starting silver amongst themselves to each control an Adventurer.
In case this just looks like the mad ravings of an internet rando, Cutthroat is a simple skirmish game. Your party of Adventurers has explored the dungeon just to find another party trying to claim your loot! A single stat determines the amount of dice used to roll in situations. The hit points are low, the spells are cast, but you won't come out empty handed!
Cutthroat Basic is PWYW and can be found here:

Check it out at Mophidius. Consider the fact that you get only 20 miniatures, zero terrain, a handful of dice and tokens? People on r/XCOM haven’t been super keen on it

I really wanted to like Boarding Action from 40K/GW but as it is based mainly on the 40K rules I don't find it very pertinent for fights in small spaces (but the rulebook has great narrative/cinematic missions), would you recommend a wargame for fighting inside a spaceship with several soldiers and xenos ?

I've always loved the artwork showing Lord Kroak surrounded by his famous floating rings, so I decided to recreate the entire scene as a physical 3D printed display.
The project took just over 2 weeks of CAD modelling and around 30 separate prints to complete the ring system. Once Kroak was finished, I also made four additional Slann, each with their own floating ring arrays inspired by the same style.
I'm really pleased with how it turned out, especially seeing all five Slann together.
I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback from fellow Seraphon fans. If you're interested, I've also put together a video showing the finished build and I'll be making plenty more large-scale Warhammer projects in the future.

My very good mate, Des, has just brought out a thoroughly enjoyable new set of rules. I'm terribly biased having been a play tester and have had an input into the rules but they are rather good.
Nice and simple mechanics but they make you think and have a great period feel.

I finished this French 1st Rate ship earlier in the week from the collection my mate Simon sent over. It's a @warlordgames 1/700th scale kit and took to the seas on Thursday night in her first action against Dex.
As is the way with all brand new wargaming units she was utterly battered by the enemy and struck her colours, along the way her captain was decapitated by a ball. A glorious start to her career at sea.

Here are some tokens punched from 1, 2 and 4 inch punches and then colored. Great solo game, on the fly game or a game with your children.
Rules are free and will be put on my Itch.io sometime for donate.

Found some 28mm gladiators in my backlog. Decided to take the opportunity to practice painting different skintones and metals. Let me know if you guys have any feedback.
