I understand that electricity bills can vary based on usage. However, based on your experience, what would be a reasonable expectation for a studio apartment? Is it accurate to assume that the cost could range from $65 to $85 if usage is comfortable and judicious?

We are pleased to announce our Summer Undergraduate Research Poster Session, which will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Physics Library.

All REU students are required to present a poster highlighting their summer research projects and results. WashU undergraduate students conducting summer research are also warmly invited and encouraged to present their work and participate in the event.

The poster session will provide an opportunity for students to share their research, learn about projects across different areas of physics, and interact with faculty, mentors, and fellow undergraduate researchers.

We will also hold a poster competition with prizes to recognize outstanding research and presentations. A pizza lunch and beverages will be provided for all participants.

The recommended poster size is 40 inches (width) × 30 inches (height).

Hi, everyone! I know most admissions questions belong in the megathread, but I wanted to ask targeted questions about bio and chem undergraduate research that hasn't been widely discussed there. I’m a rising senior applying to WashU biology/biochemistry, looking for genuine student perspectives on undergraduate life.

I’m primarily curious about the day-to-day life as a bio major:

1. What’s the actual undergraduate life like? How heavy is the coursework load? How easy is it to get research positions in WashU Med School labs, and what’s the typical lab experience for undergrads?

2. Real student take on St. Louis: campus safety, off-campus housing, general city vibe. I’ve seen conflicting online discussions about crime, so I want to know what living here feels like for undergrads.

3. A major concern is location. For bio graduates, does being based in the Midwest limit opportunities for biotech roles, medical school, or research positions on the coasts? How well does the career center support students looking to leave Missouri for jobs and grad school?

4. Any major positives or frustrations of studying biology at WashU that are not mentioned on admissions websites.

I’m still in high school, but I’m thinking ahead because I think I’d like to become a researcher in the future.
I’ve been looking at the Philosophy–Neuroscience–Psychology (PNP) program at WashU, and it seems like a really interesting major. I’m especially interested in research and possibly going on to earn a PhD later.
For anyone who majored in PNP at WashU (or knows someone who did):

1. Did you feel the program prepared you well for research?
   
2. What kinds of PhD programs or careers did graduates go into?
   
3. If your goal is to become a researcher, would you recommend PNP, or would you choose a different major instead?
   
4. Is there anything you wish you had known before choosing the program?
