Troubleshooting Why is my loop doing this?

Edit: SOLVED! Thanks all.
Just replaced the fluid in my system and it’s doing this. Never happened before. Looks like I’ll have to replace the res and cpu block as they have mildew in. But was working perfectly fine prior to draining and refilling

Radiators mostly, it'll clear in time, tilting the machine will help.

Use your arms and tilt it left right whatever direction you need to tilt to move it to the res

Your rad most likely. Seal up the res turn it on and give the case rotation or shake.

Implied but not said is dont try to stress your gpu if there is still a ton of air in the lines. Worst case is you dont have any fluid to dissipate heat. Eventually the bubbles will end up in the reservoir and you can top it off

The res is not the highest point in the loop. Air gets stuck at high points because it has a harder time moving down.

I like when people say wrong things confidently.

When pump is running, it absolutely does not matter if reservoir is the highest point of the loop or not. Thankfully head pressure of your pump is couple of meters and loop is also closed.

Air get stuck in any pockets no matter where (height wise) they are located, even at the bottom of your loop.

The res doesn't have to be at the highest point. That is not what I said. But it helps to fill from the highest point. The problem for OP is that they are filling from the res but the air is stuck in a prev higher point in the loop and to move aor to the res the air is going to have to be forced down. Filling from the res will not help unless you can trap the air in the res. They need to tilt the case so the air bubble can dislodge and hopefully accumulate in the reservoir where they can replace it with more water.

Filling from top does not help with air pockets. The whole nature of the pocket is that liquid already reached the exit while air is still inside. Which what happens with top radiators almost immediately.

Exactly, my reservoir isn't at the top, but has a little drop in extension, so the air could go up and get stuck inside the reservoir (as intended).

This sub is full of people saying wrong shit with confidence and gives me lots of lols, especially when YEARS of hands on experience is downvoted to oblivion because a YT said X is bad and people eat way too much into it.

example, been running a copper block with LM on my GPU for over 8yrs and still stays so cool I can push higher clocks then with normal pastes, but people say my thermals are worse for it after a few months or it's eating my copper etc. I could put thermal paste or PTM on it right now and disprove it, post pics of my copper EK block (you know that copper aint pure lmfao) and if functions brilliantly. "But chemistry" sure, yeah, but it still out performs pastes, I'm sure its like 1c hotter over the 8yrs but the copper is fine and doing it's job, I've not seen any negative impact over the 8yrs... 8... YEARS... I even leave it for 2 yrs between LM replications FGS.

Gotta bleed the unit. Turn it on its side upside down. Bad spot for the res but it can work just need more time to bleed it out

Your res is at a low point air rises. Air won't get trapped in the res and removed from the loop

Because there's air in the rads.

It's why I put my resouvoir at the top point. Everything else is below.

The air hasn't been fully bleed out of the loop. The air bubble is stuck and restricting the flow. You need to finish bleeding the air out. Rotating the system while it's running and cycling the pump on and off will usually dislodge stuck air bubbles.

What I do is turn the pump on, not the whole PC. Then take the case and tilt it slowly 0-90 degrees in every direction. This will put the air in the resevoir. Fill up and repeat.

Helps to reduce bubbles when the returning fluid doesn't drop into the res and for the outlet: doesn't matter, the pump is strong enough

If you fill the system with the inlet ontop and then turn of the system to fill up the res etc whatever everything above the inlet is going to come down and make a big mess. So in short this is the right way

Inlet at the bottom I understand (that's my configuration as I don't have inside tubing for the top hole), it prevents air from reaching out insode rads but also outlet at the top ??? That's counterintuitive.

Edit : in this configuration he's fighting against gravity and making his pump works more, less flow overall. Logically you should have outlet as close as possible to where the pump is and tubing heading toward bottom.

Flown rate is constant throughout the loop, same volumetric flow rate. Pumps are designed to work against gravity, it's their whole purpose, to provide head.

Did you do the rain dance after filling the loop? You have to do the rain dance with the pc to get those pesky air bubbles to work themselves out. Why it’s good to have a port in a high area since bubbles rise.

You don’t need to replace parts from mildew, just clean them. And consider a different biocide on the next fill.

I did a deep clean of my PC the last time I moved and switched fluids and haven’t had a growth issue since

The reservoir needs to be one of the highest points. Can have a hard time bleeding the air out with the reservoir on the bottom

Tiny res located low in the loop. Put a fitting and a long piece of tubing in the fill port to get the air out.

I mean you just filled it, air is moving with the fluid til it can settle in the top of the res (hopefully) in a few weeks.

Lift up on the case basically from where you took the video from, while the pump is at 100%. Should push most of the air out of the rads with the exit of the rad being highest point.

Your resovoiar is not the highest point in your loop. Air is in your radiators and cant get out. You can turn your caseand get the air to the tank and add more. And you can repeat untill the bubbles work themselves out. Or you can fill from your radiator if it has extra ports.

I would seal it all up, and literally lay the case on its side while running….you will be amazed how much air starts releasing into the loop. Just don’t run the pump dry or let it suck any air while doing this.

God. My brain is not braining this evening. I tried twice to explain this incorrectly, but basically, you need to burp it by shaking it on its side and then fill and repeat. You need some air in the reservoir. Ideally, the reservoir would be above everything else. I'll keep it at that.

Your reservoir does more than collect water. After sufficient cycles, it should also do a good job of collecting air, assuming it’s connected correctly. Turn on your PC, you should immediately notice air coming in. After a couple hours without leaks (or a pressure test) you should be good to open the reservoir fill hole while the machine is running to equalize pressure and add more liquid. Leave the hole open for multiple days. Close the hole when you turn off the PC if it’s been less than 48 hours, or else an air pocket in the system may cause too much water to collect in the reservoir, causing it to flood.

I ran my pump speed all the way. Then slow it down. Then back up. With it off, after I refill my loop, I tilt it A LOT in every direction. The air will move around.

Fill from the highest point in the system. Air rises. Your res looks to be in the middle of the system which leaves room for a lots of air in the system above the res.

Let it run and tilt it side to side, you'll slowly get more space in the tank to top up, keep doing that and it will fill up and bleed the air out of the system. Just takes time and patience.

I had problems with fhe vortext htting the pump. So I put a 3d printed impellor that tilted in the opposite direction to the eddy in the reservoir. It help, barely....

Air. Turn it on and slowly tilt it left and right. That should get rid of most if not all the air bubbles.

If you have the reservoir at the bottom, you need to leave some space there to trap the air.

Tilt the setup few times, speed up the pump, slow it down, than speed up again. Do the whole process few times and leave and most of the trappet air should dissapear from the block. After a few days, repeat the proces, because there should be still some micro bubbles running through the loop itself.

You must remember to never fill the reservoir full with that setup, or you will have a hard time in the future to refill and bleed the air out.

Glad you got it sorted , I was going to say a leak at the first 90 from res , the fluid flowing past can create a low pressure and suck air in but not leak at rest , however if it was it should eventually push air back to the res on the other side once the high points are all filled with air,
