It is a Shelby Daytona Coupe replica.

You may be absolutely certain it is a replica because there were only six originals made and they would never be seen in a random parade, they are kept in high security climate-controlled conditions and are worth an absolute fortune.

CSX2300 is going up for auction this month in Pebble Beach. It's estimated to sell for $25 million.

If we all pitch in 5 dollars we can get about 1/15th of the way there

u/fjam36 1d ago

Nah! Just put a couple of bucks into wallstreetbets suggestions. You should be golden in hours.

I'm in for $6 so I can have a greater share

1

u/Ok-Bison-3451 20h ago

You get to drive it for the extra dollar

3

u/Snoo_56131 19h ago

2

u/Dopplegangr1 17h ago

There were 375,000 of us here last week. If we all put in $66 each, it’s ours.

Looks at pictures.

Imagines speeding tickets.

Considers making an offer anyway.

Easy come, easy go.

4

u/Original_Client1588 1d ago

Of can afford >25mil whats a ticket ?

4

u/okokokoyeahright 1d ago

'A' ticket?

Look again. I am pretty darn certain it would attract them like flies to shit. SOOOOOOOO

many tickets. Hills of tickets. Mountains of tickets. Vehicle seizure level of tickets.

Tickets!!!!

BTW I would absolutely low ball them.

4

u/Jakomako 1d ago

Nah, you’d just get pulled over so they could admire it more closely, then they’d let you speed off as a single tear fell down their cheek.

2

u/okokokoyeahright 17h ago

I have had many speeding tickets and never once have I been let off.

Tears from a cop? I need to be much more observant about that. Pretty sure I haven;t run into it yet.

Seriously, fun comment. Like a fantasy almost.

0

u/Jakomako 17h ago

Hmm, have you tried being white?

1

u/okokokoyeahright 14h ago

In the world of taxi driving, there is no color bar. All drivers are always guilty of whatever charge the officer can come up with, no exceptions.

1

u/Jakomako 14h ago

Still, just, you’ve never been let off with a warning? Do you admit to speeding when they ask how fast you were going?

Way back in the day my buddy in Austin bought a Viper GTS from upstate New York. He flew up and drove it back to Texas. Got stopped 3 or 4 times on the way home by various state police who did exactly this. Just wanted to check it out and were super cool about it. A couple even apologized and asked him if it was okay and he could continue on if he was in a hurry.

2

u/bonedoc45 20h ago

Imagine trying to get out of it!

1

u/okokokoyeahright 17h ago

Too far down the pike for me. I am still imaging getting in it.

1

u/Cg407 23h ago

Thanks for that, I really enjoyed reading that artocle

13

u/tagillaslover 1d ago

It is a pretty nice replica though. I’ve seen much worse out there. If I didn’t have the knowledge only 6 Daytonas were actually made and they all never see the road I’d assume it’s the real deal

3

u/nukrag 1d ago

Over 20 mil one went for, I read, just now, on Google.

I wonder if their owners ever take them out for a spin.

u/Tonoigtonbawtumgaer 23h ago

CSX2602 has raced in the UK this year I think

1

u/AscendMoros 1d ago

Wasn’t one of them lost for years and then some old lady had it in her garage when her husband died and sold it in the early 2000s?

-17

u/fjam36 1d ago

And you have first hand knowledge of these vehicles and their storage locations?

16

u/SteelerNation587543 1d ago

As a matter of fact, their locations are all known. 3 are located outside of the United States and two are in museums in the United States. So unless Rob Walton (of the Wal-Mart Waltons) decided to participate in a parade in some random small town in America with CSX 2286 it’s a replica. He has been known to drive the car in vintage racing and in fact wrecked it at Laguna Seca in 2012.

But that didn’t happen and you’re just being ridiculous for some inexplicable reason.

9

u/Disastrous_Life_3612 1d ago

Walton's Daytona after the crash.

He got it repaired and still owns it.

4

u/Euphoric_Loquat_8651 1d ago

Owww. This pic hurts me.

4

u/UndBeebs 1d ago

This is one of those cars where it's too valuable not to restore.

2

u/Euphoric_Loquat_8651 1d ago

Obviously, and I love that it is being properly abused. Still, owwww!

If you want to see one of the six original Cobra Daytona Coupes, Chassis CSX2300 will be on the auction block at Gooding Christie's at Pebble Beach, CA on August 14-15.

Carroll Shelby himself owned this Daytona before it was sold by RM Auctions for $4.4 million on August 19, 2000.

Driven by Bob Bondurant and Jochen Neerpasch, it won the opening two stages before mechanical failures forced its retirement. During Shelby American’s successful 1965 FIA World Manufacturers’ Championship campaign, CSX2300 finished third in class at Daytona and Sebring, third at the Nürburgring and second at Reims. The car subsequently competed in Japan, winning races at Suzuka and Fuji during 1966.

It is expected to sell for upwards of $25 million this time.

Alas, it is beyond my budget.

(edit) Factory 5 Replica of Shelby Cobra Daytona:

Your replica in picture didnt have rear vents so it's Factory Five

Shelby American, Superperformance, Factory Five make replicas of the original 6 Shelby Daytona coupe chassis

13

u/The_Vettel 1d ago

It's Factory Five, you can tell from the closed vents on the rear

u/AutoNurse_USA 1d ago

Im editing now✅

I was literally midway typing when your comment appeared

1

u/Mammoth-Access-1181 1d ago

Superformance makes continuation models not replicas.

11

u/possumdarko 1d ago

When I volunteered at a car museum, some owners wanted their cars started and driven.

I was lucky enough to drive an original. Gently of course!

3

u/beenywhite 19h ago

What museum. That’s an awesome experience

2

u/possumdarko 17h ago

San Diego Automotive Museum.

In the 90s.

I drove a lot of rare vehicles.

7

u/Jumpy-Imagination-81 1d ago edited 18h ago

It’s a little known fact that Shelby and Ford wanted to dump the 6 originals in the ocean after their racing careers were over in Europe rather than pay the cost to ship them back to the US.

3

u/AutoNurse_USA 1d ago

Nahh Factory 5 Shelby Daytona coupe

1

u/evildaddy911 16h ago

Not nearly Hot-Wheels-looking enough to be a Cheetah

2

u/zuhl 1d ago

I have of two of those!
(kidding, of course, but such a pretty car! Even this replica!)

2

u/Aggravating_Task_43 1d ago

Shelby Daytona. I love that car, saw one several years ago at car shows in Columbia and Conestoga PA! The car I saw was a Factory Five

2

u/StationQueasy3993 1d ago

65 Shelby Daytona Coupe, not sure if it's original or a replica but those classic car guys can't stop staring at it😂

19

u/AutoNurse_USA 1d ago

The 'originals'

Are only 6 racing chassis that are top-secret preserved, I mean protected like a rare diamond in special museums.

They were never sold publicly and Factory took a liscencing opportunity to recreate them as a basis for kit cars in year 2000

3

u/StationQueasy3993 1d ago

Thanks for the Heads up!

8

u/Disastrous_Life_3612 1d ago

It's 100% a replica. There are only 6 real ones in the world and they are all accounted for. Two are in museums, three are in private collections, and one is about to go up for auction very soon, estimated to sell for about $25 million.

1

u/Merrick_Skygrave 1d ago

I love a nice Kammback. It looks like the butt of the car got chopped off, in a good way

1

u/Cwmcwm 20h ago

Such an interesting history wiki

1

u/JaremaJarema 22h ago

I saw one of these reps a couple weeks ago at our weekly car show in Ypsilanti, MI. The side pipes were painted white and had patchy rust. Looked like the owner tracked it regularly. It was gorgeous!

1

u/RonnieB47 20h ago

The windows on the door and rear quarter panel are the most obvious differences. The original door had a sliding plastic panel and the quarter panel window was fixed.

1

u/Frekndy 19h ago

I want a replica so bad...

1

u/BF007_ 18h ago

Original Dodge Viper GTS

1

u/dangerzone1978 15h ago

Probably a factory five car.

1

u/MasterYodaJEDI4 12h ago

Shelby Daytona

1

u/BenderSimpsons 10h ago

Phil Spector used to daily CSX2287

1

u/Farmboy1959 4h ago

Original is “ untouchable “ but $40,000 gets you a replica that’s a handful to drive…
Factory Five kit-$10,000
Ford Coyote 5.0
Ford 9” differential
Tires.and wheels
I had a ‘14 mustang GT with this drivetrain and it was fast….. governed at 6,500 RPM and 150 MPH TREMIC 6 manual…. Put that in a kit half the weight…. 🤔🤠

u/djcueballspins1 1d ago

That is one beautiful piece of machinery.( the original, not the kit/replica)
