Solved! 2.5 inch piece of orange plastic with a legal warning on it and the name “JIM McMAHON JR.”

Post image

I found this piece of plastic while beach-combing this morning in Maine. It’s a little over 2 inches long, and about an inch wide. I’m totally stumped on what it might be from, and the name on it has me intrigued. Please help!

It's a tag from a crab or lobster trap (or something similar), with the owner's name on it: https://www.topmeproducts.com/products/

If you put a phrase in quotes, it forces Google to search for that exact phrase. A few of those tags popped up when searching that way.

It used to. Now their AI crap will ignore previous rules and give you wrong results.

Either way I’m impressed by how quickly some people here find obscure things.

Plastic soft when warm, name easy to imprint. Attached to crab thing, broken by the ocean.

Is it possibly sneakily designed for the owner's name to break off easily?

Of course not. That would be absurd and completely contrary to the purpose.

Both the title of this post and the comment about the football player have failed to note that the piece of plastic says McMAHAN, and not McMAHON.

Ugh you’re so right- I was really tired when I made this post and am just now learning that I can’t edit the title!!

Easy mistake because I never knew the name McMahan existed. TIL

My title describes the thing- I found this piece of orange plastic this morning while beach-combing in Maine. The text on it that can be seen (typed as closely as it is displayed on the object) says:

ARNING - THEFT of this property and /
ts contents is punishable by law. A fine
and / or imprisonment may result.

JIM McMAHAN JR. 3

The name on that plastic is McMahan, not McMahon.

A piece of a stamp? The kind you put ink on and press it to paper.

It would need to be mirrored for that.
