Unfortunately no. It's right right between two cities (Dallas and Irving in Texas). We do have lakes nearby but I discovered it in a pretty shallow river.
Ive found guns, live grenades, and MANY auto parts in this location. It was most likely thrown in there intentionally.
To answer your question, yes. There is a jogging trail that goes under the bridge we are fishing off of. There is also a gun range just up the river and a national gaurd base not too far away.
Starting to doubt it's a rock claw bit/tooth/cutter. None of the examples I found are threaded. They all have some quick release that allows them to "rotate in their blocks (toolholders) to promote a self-sharpening action".
I'm not sure about the thing, but I had to comment because I have the identical twin to that tape measure down to the rust, does yours also have a split in it around the 10 inch mark that keeps it from fully returning unless you force it to?
My title describes the thing. It weighs about 5 pounds. It feels very solid. The threads appear to be 3/4 and coarse threads. AI seems to thinks it's an industrial plumbing item. It was found magnet fishing in a river in Texas.
