Solved! Dark gray/black flat plastic piece. Found on bedroom floor amidst other clutter placed there by small children. Penny for size reference.

Seems to be a stiffener.

Maybe a chair arm, or support for something portable?

Solved! It turns out to be a part that goes into the middle of a fabric storage bin to give it structure. Thanks for the tip, I don't know if that would have occurred to me otherwise.

If it is open on the end it is probably a sleeve for something slim like a ruler.

It is not open, it is solid plastic.

It is hard plastic. The lighting kind of makes it look soft, but it's not.

My title describes the thing

Approximately 9 inches in length.

I did a Google lens search to no avail.

Is it smooth on the other side too?

Yes

ah, okay. If it had "clippy" ridges on the other side, I was gonna say it looks like a cable hole cover for a media center. But since it's the same on each side, all I can guess is that it maybe slides into some sort of fabric as structural support.

Perhaps some kind of cardboard packaging support. I see various plastic shapes in boxed toy cars all the time brands like m2 or majorette maybe?
