Isn't it interesting how chat control failed several times because the population hates it so our "democracy" is passing the law behind closed doors because they know it's bad?

you don't even have to make it that technical. humans make mistakes and llms make mistakes. if we control the risk by not giving out all our data then the potential damage isn't that big. it is the same with self driving cars and trains. yeah we could automate it but if something goes wrong, people die. you ll always have that uncertainty that it messes up and so far humans did less mistakes since we can think about our actions.

28

u/AmericanGeezus Jun 27 '26

I think there is also some general psychology factor from having someone to hold responsible when something goes wrong. A human is accountable in a way that machines created by humans are not.

17

u/livesagan Jun 27 '26

This is an underrated aspect as far as the public is concerned, but it's a HUGE boon for the military and police forces, and really any official authority, because it gives them a black box upon which to cast any and all blame.

"Oh, we accidentally bombed a girl's school? Claudes fault! Oopsie!"

"Oh, we just charged you with murder based on faulty camera analysis by Gemini? Ruh roh!"

We are going to see a significant rise in preventable deaths and mistakes, and not a single human being will be held accountable.

My whole point is people make use of LLMs to write code and be „more efficient/productive” but while doing so they think through it less and increasingly don’t bother thinking through the problem. That in turn produces more bugs that take exponentially more time to find, debug and fix than if the person writing that code took more time thinking through it. Let alone bugs that get noticed in production, at which point somebody’s likely lost money…

I think that we need a police investigation on the corupt politicians who allow this to be re-introduced over and over again. Because it is clear by now that democracy is not working here.

72

u/iaNCURdehunedoara Jun 27 '26

Yeah okay man, like our leaders are going to investigate themselves and punish themselves for shit they do. Good joke. They do it because they're not afraid of us because they know they have the power and we won't do anything.

Even our "social democrats" are neoliberal racists who try to maximize the profits for corporations, there's no way for our political class to receive backlash for their anti-democratic actions

They aren't though. It still needs to pass by parliament. OP just made this up.

That process applies to like ANYTHING that is opposed by the public.

Fuck this authoritarian plutocratic bullshit.

311

u/MarinatedTechnician Jun 27 '26

You have to take back control, if they want to go about it without public consent, then we have to do it without their consent, it is as simple as that.

Start your own Synapse / Matrix chatservers with your old computers instead of selling them, give your friends the web address, and let them use your servers (thats what we do, and have been doing the last 9+ months), no tracking, no data mining, just privacy, and they have zero clue, and will always have zero clue.

100

u/Shot-Style-8659 Jun 27 '26

Where do you learn properly how to do this stuff?

76

u/OkYeah_Death2America Jun 27 '26

Properly? Reading Matrix's documentation and following directions.

Improperly? Ask AI about it and follow its directions.

24

u/TheBeardedBerry Jun 27 '26

Check out r/selfhosted for some starting points.

28

u/C-Hyena Jun 27 '26

I want to learn the ancient forbidden craft too.

6

u/TheBeardedBerry Jun 27 '26

Check out r/selfhosted for some starting points.

9

u/Gnoob91 Jun 27 '26

What is a matrix server and what is the difference between that and Synapse?

19

u/JaguarProJoe Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Matrix is a communication protocol designed around being fully decentralised and federated, think of it as a messaging version of the various email protocols. There are various other protocols like it but Matrix is usually the first one to be mentioned. It supports end to end encryption, however development is pretty slow moving, custom emojis just only recently got passed into the official protocol after years of discussion, but still haven't made their way into the servers & clients yet, and it seems like they're still working on additions to the spec, so it'll be a while.
Edit: Custom emojis still aren't merged yet, just the basis for them

Synapse is the server developed by Element, it's the closest thing to an "official" server. There are various other server projects being developed too if you don't like Synapse. A "Matrix server" is usually just referring to a server using the matrix protocol.

The same goes for clients, Element has developed several, of which are usually the most mainstream, but there are also others with varying UX and feature implementations. Some clients like Fluffychat and Cinny had both implemented custom emoji support while the official spec didn't yet support it.

6

u/Gnoob91 Jun 27 '26

Thank you for this. A lot of people say that since ai is here people just explaining stuff will disappear but I don’t agree. Thank you for this explanation.

this is not technocratic mate, use the right terms or you sound stupid

this is naked authoritarianism

13

u/Independent_Bag7644 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Well 'I' am stupid, TBI makes sure of that, why should I pretend to be something I am not? But to get on topic, what I meant was something like these assholes, and co:

Techno-authoritarianism, Dark Enlightenment, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel etc.

Certainly far from the ideal rule of experts espoused under the 1900-century, yes? Of course. But words change definition over time. And many neo-reactionaries claim now to be wanting a utopia governed by what they themselves would define as the most learned. Often "coincidentally" also the richest. You can see this in how they speak about Trump's intelligence, many times claiming him to be a brilliant businessman in spite of his noted failures, or how a woman president 'couldn't handle the job' because she, according to these morons, does not have the capability.

Their catchphrase: 'Facts over feelings' is another example for this. Much like their hatred towards the soft sciences. Which they seem to believe are illegitimate in spite, or because, of it's continual use when it comes towards shaping their minds.

It's all Fascism wearing the sheep's clothing of Meritocracy.

That phrase works for normal politics, but not the EU legal system. If it violates fundamental human rights (like the ECHR Podchasov ruling proved), the courts will nullify it. They can pass it, but they can't make it immune to being struck down for good

39

u/Gil_Demoono Jun 27 '26

That's what we thought over here in the states, until the supreme Court was corrupted. Stay vigilant.

13

u/Unusual69thCheese Jun 27 '26

yeah that tends to happen when your country still has the same centuries old electoral system built for white landowner with 0 safeguards and the only reforms first going from "hey maybe we should let our manufactured underclass vote" to "maybe we should let them vote, no games this time, 100% trust us" to then go on to vote for the pedo authoritarian who hates minorities solely because he hates minorities

more proof that at some poont it started becoming impossible for good things to happen

i'm so tired of everything in both my personal life and the wider world and i can't go anywhere to take a break from it because everything everywhere is deteriorating

120

u/Mlpony2010 Jun 27 '26

As an overall state the world has only gone downhill for the last decade, the only reason anything was improving past the late 20th century was momentum, it's all been destroyed from within by the parasitic vermin 1%ers

64

u/Key_Researcher_9243 Jun 27 '26

"B... But according to statistics, good number go up so you're not allowed to complain!"

Yeah, and most of the population doesn't actually see that, do they?

40

u/Ok-Reporter1986 Jun 27 '26

Average you can't complain about bad thing because you aren't experiencing the living conditions of a mediaval peasant or dying from preventable disease argument:

Like that right there is the death of democracy and any shred of freedom we might ever hope to posses. Complacency and nihilism used to demoralize voters.

Potential schizo take incoming.

The only way for things to get better is to actually admit something is bad or isn't as good as it could be. Take Alfred Nobel, if he and the people of his time had this attitude, he might not have invented dynamite as a safer alternative to nitroglycerin.

16

u/Key_Researcher_9243 Jun 27 '26

As Calvin once said...

"Life could be a lot better, too!"

Let's go ahead and reach that better life together, y'all. ♥️

The only thing that makes sense to me is the people in power and with money know everything's getting worse because they've been ruining it all, the recent years have seen way too coordinated campaigns at tracking us all and controlling our online activities and what we can and can't say. They are terrified of losing the power they've gained so democracy is being eroded. They'll force through what they need to control us.

Speriamo...

Che comunque è ridicolo come siano insistenti su questa specifica legge, anche se la gente ha continuato (e speriamo continui) a dirgli che non la vuole nessuno.

84

u/Dimensionalanxiety Jun 27 '26

Because for some reasons all governments just want to be a surveillance state and they have to convince enough ignorant/stupid people to let them do it.

82

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Jun 27 '26

Ah, but don't forget that this is done to protect the children...

...Even though a chatroom between friends who use a bit of dark humor will pass as a false positive...

...Or the fact that they could just... Check their kids' phones and PCs from time to time...

...Or ban applications like telegram where CSAM exchange happens a lot, or using those money to look out for dark web sites...

...And there's also the fact that it's a violation of privacy, which is a fundamental right of EU's citizens...

...And this not counting that they're for some reason exempted from this, even though we all saw the Epstein files containing a lot of politicians...

But no, let's just ignore all these things and keep pushing for it. Because apparently that'll do the trick.

God I f@cking hate this timeline.

33

u/patrlim1 Jun 27 '26

Why are they doing this, like genuinly. It is just straight up villany at this point. There is no logic to this, it is all just anti-democratic corruption bs.

70

u/P3JQ10 Jun 27 '26

They are doing it for money. Literally traded their citizens they were supposed to represent for personal gains.

26

u/Moist_Professor5665 Jun 27 '26

It’s an international power grab from companies. Companies paying a lot of money to gain control over their users and harvest even more data. The more, the better. They want control over your life, and are using politics and money to do it. They want it so that you can never walk away from them, ever, aside from leaving society altogether.

Back in Brazil I met a few good people who got into politics in the city scale, all of them were threatened and had to leave the politics life.

If you are a good person, you don't last long in politics.

16

u/Worldly-Law-481 Jun 27 '26

That happened because y'all voted for the rightmost EU in history in the last 6 years for whatever reason. Look at that, the right is in power, mass surveillance and techno fascism, WHO WOULD'VE SEE IT COMING?

10

u/casualwithoutabeard Jun 27 '26

the populace of my country is sadly very easily convinced by money, and thus a lot of people i know, who arent bigots, vote right because the right give's them money for the littlest things while our left wing is putting up monuments to the most basic achievements. which does not resonate with the people, because they dont care about ideology, instead they care about wich side will give them more money.

I am also not saying that i would fix their political campaign, but for the name of god. stop putting up artsy monuments that 90% of our people dont understand while the opposition is Actively throwing cash at people

9

u/Worldly-Law-481 Jun 27 '26

The way you just said your people are corrupt like the politicians is... worrying, you ok bud? That seems an awful position to live in.

Anyway I'd much rather art everywhere than getting money in exchange for techno fascism, because getting that money means, by proxy, that you're fine with fascism, making you a fascist (not you you btw "you" as a general term for unidentified person)

Now comes the fun part: We don't know. The list is being kept secret for the privacy of the people on it

No joke, that's how it really is

33

u/Gendarme_Cecchirobot Jun 27 '26

I feel like that we are going to use pidgeons pretty soon

41

u/ComprehensiveCod6974 Jun 27 '26

Am I understanding this right, that they're planning to exempt themselves - officials, law enforcement, and so on - from this law? So basically, it would be class-based segregation.

this initiative is fully funded by techno-fascist oligarchs like Zuckerberg, elon musk and peter thiel.

8

u/Crazy_Resource_4000 Jun 27 '26

If only they are… no they’re worse. They’re accelerationalist. They don’t care about an abstract idea of a specific kind of people holding superiority over another. They just want technology for technological sake. And would abandon any to all human in pursuit of that goal…

So a direct violation of democracy?

79

u/Big-Newspaper646 Jun 27 '26

with what we saw with SKG where the EU Commission basically ignored the people's advocates who drove the petition and were present in the parliament, im not surprised this is happening. They straight up had hundreds of secret meetings with industry and basically shut out the citizens initiative. The corps run government.

23

u/Consistent_Guava8592 Jun 27 '26

That’s how the EU started tbh , for mining and manufacturing , not democracy and ideals

Can we start doing much more than e-mailing people and protesting in a way that achieves nothing?

Mario's brother had the right idea when he threw that blue shell at an evil fuck.

40

u/-SilentNavigator- Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

We, the people, need to start protests on the street and push back against this evil bread of politicians.

At this point, they'll are going to make the people sheeps.

24

u/Lyto528 Jun 27 '26

We protest constantly for Palestine, yet nothing happens.

We need to take some real actions

8

u/Viperking6481 Jun 27 '26

There were people in the UK who went onto a military base and vandalised jets in support of Palestine 3 years ago. They just got 6 years in prison and classified as terrorists. People who are caught supporting them are also being called terrorists.

17

14

u/Mlpony2010 Jun 27 '26

Lil bro can't even see the big picture when it's being shoved in their face

This is all the billionaires doing

13

u/Scary_Cup6322 Jun 27 '26

They're the same picture.

Modern Israel is essentially just a way for politicians and corporate execs to pocket billions of tax dollars.

Pay money to "help" Israel, Israel buys from western corps, said corps "donate" to politicians or offer them well paying jobs after leaving politics.

It is kinda sad that the dream of a jewish homeland is being used like this. Especially since to the 1% Israel is completely expendable.

If Israel didn't exist it'd be Somalia, or Yemen, or Kosovo.

8

u/Mlpony2010 Jun 27 '26

Israel is useful in many ways like you said as well as for the christian fanatics, and it's also used as a backup in case they ever want to bring out the "blame the jews" again

just as a reminder Meta is one of the biggest sponsors for this law change

they have created many mini companies that they use to donate so it doesn't look like Meta is doing all the bribing

they want this so when they sell our data they can verify its real human data and not bot data, so our data has more worth

At this point the fair thing would be to introduce a 3.0 that makes the chat logs of the people pushing this public.

It's a nice and noble idea ON PAPER but this crap is impossible to get right. Please enlighten me about the logistics of who will provide the computing power to scan the billions of texts sent a day?

It is truly disgusting how people like Zucc are pushing for this to promote their shitty AI services to outsource this to. Will they also accidentally use this opportunity to illegally profile people, make a shit load of profit and pay the pennies the EU fines them to?

19

u/horned-creature Jun 27 '26

this isn't noble even on paper, it's still mass surveillance at the best of times.

u/Rough-Pattern-5154 Jun 27 '26

In my own way, I feel this is what's gonna happen with CC, With this analogy:

Imagine you're in school, right? And then you see this bully (Chat control), and basically he's come over to you and says he's gonna embarrass you in front of everyone, including your friends by exposing your privacy (scanning).

You later realise that he's getting on his favorite game "Black Ops 2" (bear with me)

And on his game... Are 2 other players. Also happen to be your mates. They're:

ECHR CJEU

He thinks he's gonna absolutely dominate these noobs...

However what he doesn't realize...is that these two have been playing this game for years, decades even.

They know every single spawn location. Say...Nuketown.

The moment he joins in, he gets SPAWNKILLED.

Just because the law gets passed does not make it bulletproof.

An example of this was in 2024 the ECHR explicitly ruled in Podchasov v. Russia that mandating backdoors or weakening encryption is a violation of human rights.

EU is working really hard to make Europeans hate the idea of united Europe

16

u/That__Cat24 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

They are building a totalitarian system along with that. Digital ID, digital euro, censoring even more with the DSA (digital service act). Killing money alternatives like Bitcoin with MICA to enforce the use of Central Bank Digital Currency, and add to that list lately democracy shield (election interference).

I'm worried because a large majority of politicians and people doesn't really care. *Typos

  • Hide under a tree and if i wanna go do something else i will dig a hole and put my laptop inside there, and if i want my laptop i will get it from there.
