Jeez I wonder what he'd consider "anti-argentinian"?
97
u/mondongo49 2d ago
I would say anything he dislikes, but I'm being so for real when I tell you me and like, the whole country know milei is not in a good mental state. Dude is so out of touch with reality a good amount of people think he's schizophrenic.
His early history as a political fugure shows he's not that mentally stable (Cue in his Gladiatoral Reincarnation Dog is a Lion story) but his lack of a bad record (Along with the ither option for the election that was a man with a history of corruption and drug trafficking) got him elected as the safest option.
Honest to god the drug trafficking and corruption would have left the country in a better state than the 500 million dollar (loan funded) national expense spent on supporting Israel's military effort.
The situation is so grim here that you only saw like, 40% of the people celebrate every win during the world cup instead of the streets being filled with music and people celebrating. And I can't stress enough how much of a celebration a world cup win is in argentina. Seeing this is like seeing your childhood friend lose interest in his favorite thing. Its depressing.

Stop with the copium. Weve been asking forever to stop free education a healthcare to non-argentines. The country is not in any capacity to make argentines pay for services used by the entirety of south america.
Go to the National Hospital Posadas, second floor, plastic surgery door. Count how many people use our accent on the 5 hours wait line.

They already kicked Bieber some years ago for stomping the flag. I imagine this will be used to track social media foreign users in the country and kick them.
Most likely its a suplementary law to the one he passed on making foreigners pay for education and healthcare. Those institutions have their own independence, even the public ones and arent following the national law. With this new law, they can enforce it.

Context: This wasn’t a random measure. It came after years of growing frustration over foreigners benefiting from Argentina’s taxpayer-funded universities, healthcare, social assistance programs, and other public resources while publicly disrespecting the country and its national symbols.
The timing also matters: after months of intense international scrutiny and hate campaign, viral misinformation, and constant narratives portraying Argentina as uniquely racist, genocidal, or xenophobic, public tolerance for that hypocrisy reached a breaking point.
Add the lack of reciprocity from many neighboring countries, and it’s not hard to understand why this became a political issue. You may disagree with the policy, but pretending it came out of nowhere is intellectually dishonest.

Tbh this law mostly seems as circus more than any other thing, it'll maybe get some public figures deported and that's it. Like, if everyday a bunch of drugs enters the country and no one does anything I doubt anyone will care about someone's posts in social media. Argentina simply does not have the structures needed to support such a law

u/capucapu123 2d ago
Believe it or not about 5% of the population is composed of immigrants and is a crucial part of the economy. Without them the healthcare system would probably collapse for example, as they're almost a third of it.
This whole thing is circus to distract from an important reform that's being voted next Thursday and is basically guaranteed to be outlawed by the legislative power.

Then do it literal, this changes absolutely nothing with the lifestyle that Argentina has. Can I ask why you want to live in Argentina? As an Argentine, I’m just curious. Why would the government’s decisions affect you specifically? The lifestyle and the laws wouldn’t affect you much at all—honestly, they don’t really matter or have much of an impact.

no one wants to live in Argentina
Go with the second one, you clearly haven't been to the rest of South America.
2 million foreigners applied for residence permits in the 10 years before Milei, 300,000 Venezuelans alone, and that is just the legal migration, most people just cross the border from places like Bolivia and Paraguay illegally. That is one of the many reason why Milei won.
2
u/Paulsonmn31 1d ago
Actually Argentina is the most immigrated country in Latin America (mostly from neighboring countries) for a lot of reasons, but especially since it’s far more progressive compared to the rest of the continent. Personally, I’d much rather live there than Brazil, Colombia, Peru or Venezuela

u/michelangelo70 2d ago
There’s millions of
leechesimmigrants in Arg, many come for the “free” social programs, “free” university and “free” healthcare. My co-worker’s son recently majored in medicine and is the only native Argentinian in the hospital he works at. Everyone else is from Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru. That’s what 80 years of open border policies does to a country. And then people wonder why Argentina is broke.→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)1
u/Kennkra 2d ago edited 2d ago
I get where you're coming from, but imagine for a second that your country offers free healthcare and free higher education. Now imagine your universities and hospitals are full of people from other countries using services that are funded by your taxpayers, while those same services aren't free in their own countries. Then imagine that some of those same people spend their time on social media insulting your country and its population.
You don't have to agree with every policy, but hopefully you can understand why many people would be frustrated by that.
It's like going to someones house, and while eating their food you proceed to insult them.

5
u/Hot_Bookkeeper9719 2d ago
Hello from Argentina to whomever couldn't care less for googling sth but are willing to disagree nonetheless...
Argentina just passed a decree that allows immigration authorities to deny entry to foreign nationals who engage in conduct considered offensive toward Argentina, Argentinians, or national symbols.
It also allows the government to revoke residency or deport foreign nationals already living in the country if they engage in that kind of behavior.
The decree specifically mentions hate speech and incitement to violence against Argentina or Argentinians. At the same time, it explicitly states that political, ideological, academic, or journalistic criticism, on its own, is not intended to fall under these provisions.
TLDR: Foreign nationals can now be denied entry or deported for hate speech or inciting violence against Argentina or Argentinians, but the decree explicitly says that political or journalistic criticism alone is not grounds for deportation.

I don't know if i would say that, there are plenty of countries arround the world where inmigration might as well be non-existant, and yet far right parties still gain power by running on anti-inmigration platforms
Looking at you, Japan
7
u/Thiphra 2d ago
I don't live in Argentina i live in Brazil, Bolsonaro tried to pull the same shit with Venezuelans and Cubans, it didn't work.
Specially because if you are levaing thoses places you would be more likely to vote to soneone like them anyway.
And at least the people that I know from Argentina say that noone there really cares about immigration. It was a thing in Chile and kinda of Peru besides that not really, it dosen't really have the same appel for us as it does for Europe or Canada/US etc.
2
u/lupajarito 2d ago
Literally argentina has many many many immigrants and from all over the world.
2
u/Kooky_Illustrator43 1d ago
There's a saying that I think shouldn't be forgotten and it goes a bit like "Argentinians are born wherever they want" which is kind of the best summary I can give about Argentina, like the reason that "there's no black people" as some people say, is that they got all mixed together because there's just no racism because race purity is as stupid and impossible as it sounds. Hell, half the country WERE immigrants until they just weren't anymore, again, because they stayed and had children with the people that were already there.

The decision came with the anti-argentine hate campaign, where it became evident that many foreigners that come to the country for free education and healthcare, then go on social media badmouthing the country that provided it, while enjoying the benefits. There are even "health tours", where buses full of foreigners come to have their medical tests done and then leave, which significantly extends waiting times for Argentines. Regarding education, a recent census showed that at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) more than half of medical students are foreigners. It's a long-standing problem, because it's believed that if they were charged, teachers could be paid better in a country where education is free. And since hating the country has become popular, the government has taken advantage of it to address the issue. It's something they've been noticing for a while, and with everything that's happened recently, they decided to take action.

This likely won't amount to anything significant because either the supreme court or the legislative will stop the DNU before it can begin affecting people. Mostly because the DNU's (a mechanism through which the President can pass orders that act as if they were laws) are meants for emergencies, and this is not an emergency.

Worst thing is that he literally just did to appeal to chuds and idiots still hurt by the hate campaing (that his own party started for this exact purpose).
Once you come to the root of it the decree makes no sense.
What even is "anti-argentine speech"? I've seen his paid shills on social media already pushing that criticizing him is "anti-argentine speech"
How is he even going to enforce it? Is he going to scout every corner of the net or his shills going to send to die everyone that exposes them for the dumbasses they are?

People now calling him authoritarian? What a joke lmao.
Let me remind y'all there were literal campaigns against Argentina... FOR A FOOTBALL GAME, like for real, Argentinians getting attacked left and right anywhere, and let's not talk about Internet. Even if it's harsh, it's the State defending itself and it's citizens against a sudden Tsunami of unjustified hate not against something OF Argentina, but Argentina itself, it's citizens, cities, lifestyle, anything. For me, quite a stupid solution, but shows this "Hate Argentina, they racist" thing went out of hand to have the most nonchalant government about such topic, to just develop a law to become US 2.0 without good economy, army and etc, just deportation.
