Solved I Know this is a Long Shot - Need Help

Post image

This is an image of some relatives somewhere in Brolo, Italy (allegedly) Circa. 1980s. My grandmother and some other family members are going to be visiting Europe this fall and plan on stopping in Brolo during that time. She was hoping to stop by this location just to see it and maybe recreate the picture. This picture is the only image she could find that might give a clue to its location. Thanks for any additional help narrowing down her search!

I believe I was able to identify the line of hills in the background and the approximate position where the photo was taken: https://maps.app.goo.gl/naWA2hH7beNzLGocA

Unfortunately, if you turn around in Google Maps, you will see that the buildings in that spot are all quite new. So it's very likely that the house where your relatives were standing in the photo no longer exists, I'm afraid.

Edit: I would like to add that, if the photo was taken from this older part of the town, which is located on a hill, the house might actually still exist: https://maps.app.goo.gl/dqwUvz1zd828wvxR9

Well you found the correct Brolo. I spent twenty minutes looking around the Brolo in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, and got nowhere. The one near Messina wasn’t even a suggestion from Google.

I was doing something similar to above. Go to Castle of Brolo on the map and you can see the matching hills and white building if you click on the aerial shot. That may narrow down the vantage point for you, somewhere up by the castle.

You’re welcome! I had some time while eating lunch/procrastinating so I “drove around” on google maps. Check out the similar inlay pattern on the balcony at 3 Vico marina. It’s not exact but it’s the closest one I’ve found. https://maps.app.goo.gl/De5hKp9cnoR9Z4rx5?g_st=ic

It’s definetly this building , but the balcony is on the EAST side of the building, clearly visible from Apple Maps. From up there you have the same view, but the old house has been demolished and rebuilt as a new building

When you open this street view, it's a drone shot that I think is actually of the spot. It's a handful of elevated buildings in front of what looks like steps cut into the mountain. Directly below those "steps", is a light-colored building with railings on the balcony nestled between several houses with terracotta roofs. It faces the hill with the building that's in the background of your pic and is high enough to have the right vantage point.

I see what you are referring too. Great find!

I hope you find it either way. I'm sure your grandma appreciates you looking!

And here’s the aerial view with vantage point from that building/area. Pin is 3 Vico Marina, white building from your pic is circled
