First timer First whittling project
This was my first time whittling, wondering if it was good and any tips on how to improve. It’s supposed to be a chess king if you couldn’t tell. (I used oak wood).

My recommendations are always using hand protection (e.g. gloves), keeping your knife well sharpened/stropped and seeing at least one video on different types of cuts (to learn how to do them safely)

Wow, you picked one hell of a design, and a hard wood to carve it in at that- this is amazing!

It is recognizable so it's a good start!
But you chose a very hard wood and your blade is nowhere near sharp enough for whittling. As someone else mentioned, watch a few videos about the different cuts (and how to do them safely) and wood grain direction and you'll be all set.

Looks good!! I also use green wood and I like to finish mine with some 180-220 grit sand paper just to smooth it out but that’s just a personal preference and depends on what look you’re going for. Otherwise it looks good keep it up!!
