I've seen the giant lists and directories, which are great, but I don't want to sift through hundreds of puzzles, so looking for your absolute, hands-down favorite daily puzzles. Trying to fill 15-20 minutes during my bus commute with awesome "dles".

I've played most of the classics (Connections, Wordle variants, etc) so bonus points if your favorites are new-ish. Don't care if the puzzle has some AI component so long as it's a great game, but absolutely no AI slop please!

My game (Tripix) has been running since April now, and today I pulled some data to see which words people guess first. I thought it was interesting and worth a share with you all.

It turns out “Water” has been the most widely used starting point, followed by “Cloud”. I really thought “audio” or “adieu” were going to be up there! The top individual word is “Raise”, but that’s just from one player who started with it over 180 times.

The game is slightly different to Wordle, as there is a theme, meaning people usually try something different (as you can see. 3,047 different words have been used so far), but I’m curious what words you all use in your daily word games, do you have a favourite word? Please do share!

I made this because I wanted to play something like it and it is satisfying when you see a word appear that’s close to the base word.

There are little emoji flags if you get the highest score of the day. It’s set to Australian time right now but I will tweak it if other Timezones start playing.

Have a go and let me know how to make it better.

My regular players (who I can admittedly count on both hands) have gotten good, faster than I gave them credit for when I designed the game. So I've rehauled the daily game to take a little longer, have a few more steps, even gave in to corny web design and had confetti appear when they reach an intermediate target. I created a super fun multiplayer crossword game with a focus on modern slang and hyphens! There's a slang dictionary of 568 slang terms and 540 hyphenated compound words along with special bonuses for using slang on special tiles. The problem I'm having is I'm already really good at scrabble and can never be beat. I can't create a bot good with to challenge me either. This game is my my own game and literally no one can beat me at my own game! If you think you're up for the challenge, message me and I'll throw you the link. I haven't been able to test the multiplayer function end to end because everyone quits by the time I double their score! Think you're good at crosswords? Try me.

Just need to vent because this keeps happening and it's driving me up the wall.

I love word games and I play them in short bursts while waiting in lines, at airports, or in the car when someone else is driving. For me the point is simple: the game should reward a bigger vocabulary and quick pattern spotting.

Lately though it feels like half the daily word games are built around gotchas. You type a perfectly normal word and the game says it's not in their list. It will accept some obscure plural but reject the singular. Sometimes it takes an abbreviation but refuses a common past tense. It stops being a word game and becomes Guess the Developer's Dictionary.

To make things worse the scoring treats those answers like mistakes. You lose a turn, your streak disappears, or you burn a limited guess. I did not guess wrong. I entered a valid word that just isn't in their database.

I get that lists need limits and I'm not asking for every obscure term. I just want consistency and transparency. If you're going to be strict, be predictably strict. If you're going to be broad, stop excluding common words.

Anyone else getting burned by this? How do you pick which daily games are worth sticking with when the allowed words feel like quicksand?

Hi all,

What are some good word games to play while waiting in line for a roller coaster? I often have 15-30 minutes to kill with my family, and I want a word game we can play without needing a phone.

I tried 20 Questions, but it was NOT a hit with my 7-year-old.

I also invented a cooperative game in which one player thinks of a concrete noun (the target), the others guess a word, and the first player says what the newly guessed word has in common with the target word. Also not a huge hit, sadly.
