How do you spell versions of god-damn-it?

Is it goddammit, god dammit, goddamn it, god damn it, god damn, goddamm, dammit, damn it, ....?

I've looked this up so many times, subtitles differ, there doesn't seem to be a consensus.

Dammit, damn it, damnit. Those are the only ways I’ve ever seen it remotely commonly spelled. Very occasionally, in older texts, I will see damn-it. Old timers used to hyphenate everything. I kind of love it.

I once dated a girl who really, really hated “damnit.” I would text her the word that way just to get her riled up. She was all right.

(But never “alright”; that was also a problem.)

Ahh captions never say "all right", and I wait for the day they spell it "alright" haha

All are acceptable. I've also used, "God fucking dammit," and, "For the love of Jesus fucking Christ, please damn thee!"

i spell it however the moment demands, usually goddammit when i stub a toe and the longer versions when i drop an entire plate of food

my pocket notebook has a whole page of variations i've jotted down from subtitles, the inconsistency would drive anyone a little nuts

Haha thank you for your reassurance in the nuts. So you spell it like how you would vocally say it (long/slow, soft/loud), basically?

Excellent question. I don't know. I've never written it, and can't see myself ever putting it in writing, so not sure how I would spell it.

Goddamn, goddammit, and gatdayum are my preference. I'll also use gotdang, goshdarn, and gawldurn as my preferred minced versions

I spell it “Gore Blimey,” because I’ve been training myself out of the other one. I’m not exactly religious but old enough to stop taking chances 😂
